  • When a response surface by a seconde order polynomial regression model, the stationary point is obtained by solving simultaneous linear equations. But the point is a function of random variables. We can find a confidence region for this point as Box and Hunter provided. However, the confidence region is often too large to be useful for the experiments, and it is necessary to augment additional design points in order to obtain a satisfactory confidence region for the stationary point. In this note, the author suggests a method how to augment design points "eficiently", and shows the change of the confidence region of the estimated stationary point in a response surface.e surface.

  • It is discssed how to detrmine the home location of vhicles in an AGVS with a loop guidepath in a way of maximizing the request-call response probabilities for all demand. Optimal home position is selected by solving the simultaneous equations easily . Statuc positioning strategy is analyzed in which a single home position is allocated to which every vehicle is outed whenever it becomes idle. The cases of unidirectional guidepath is considered only. We provide a numerical example to illustrate the search algorithm developed for the case and compare the searched optimal solutions with the others.

  • This Paper represents time-dependent stochastic variations of common discounted cash flow formulae with explicit consideration given to inflation. The cash flow, the ratio of discounting or compounding, and the rate of inflation are allowed to vary with time in a random fashion in equations for the compound amount of a single payment, present worth of a single payment, amount of an annuity, periodic deposits to accumulate a future amounts, present worth of an annuity and capital recovery And all formulae are derived for the case of discrete random variations.

  • The computerized analysis of complicated circuits requires large memory capacity and considerable length of time. In order to enhance the efficiency of memory capacity and the executing time, Sparse Matrix is applied to the solution of simultaneous equations required for the analysis of amplification circuit. The optimization Subroutine, FMFP is utilized for the decision of optimum element parameters of an equalizer amplifier.

  • This paper presents a method to estimate the parameter of permanent magnet synchronous motor using a least squares method. The approximate solution of the linear simultaneous equations is obtained by the pseudoinverse least squares method of the input current and output voltage data of the current controller. It is possible to obtain the current response of the same bandwidth to the general control target by using the Pole-zero Cancellation technique. This paper verifies the performance of the proposed method by comparing the results of estimation of parameters of different motors by simulation.

  • This study dealt with traffic accidents occurring within roundabouts. The objective was to develop roundabout accident models for different driving types by using simultaneous equations. In pursuing the above, this study used a statistical program SPSS 17.0 to accommodate data from 148 accidents occurred within 39 roundabouts of Korea. In addition, the 2SLS(2 stage least square) estimation method was adopted to calibrate the models. The main results are as follows. First, both the number of accidents and the EPDO were evaluated to have bilateral relationships. Second, all 6 different simultaneous equation models according to driving types were found to be statistically significant. Third, the developed models were compared to each other with respect to either common or specific variables. Finally, variables such as ADT, conflicting rate, heavy vehicle ratio, circulatory roadway width, number of circulatory roadway lane, approach lane width, average approach lanes, parking places, and bus stops were selected as independent variables for the models.

  • Circular path generation for ball bar measurement using the simultaneous movement of two axes with at least one rotary axis requires the execution of CAM software. However, a change in the machine type or measurement condition requires a new execution of the CAM software, which is cumbersome. This paper presents a circular path generation technique that does not require CAM software and is applicable to different types of driving axes with an arbitrary structural configuration of machine tools and any ball bar setup condition. Mathematical equations are derived for three cases using the proposed technique. In addition, to inspect the measurement feasibility for avoiding physical interference among the ball bar parts, a tilting angle calculation is proposed. The validity of the proposed technique was verified by performing a ball bar experiment with A and C as the simultaneous axes of a five-axis machine tool.

  • Simultaneous equation models, which are widely used in business and economic areas, generally consist of endogenous variables determined within models and exogenous variables externally determined and in the simultaneous equations model framework there are rank and order conditions for the model identification and the existence of unique solutions. By contrast, their estimating results have less efficiencies and furthermore do not exist, since the most estimating procedures are performed under the assumptions for rank and order conditions. We propose the new statistical test for sufficiency of the rank condition under the order condition, and show the asymptotic properties for the test. The Monte Carlo simulation studies are achieved in order to evaluate its power and to suggest the baseline for satisfying the rank conditions.

  • Pilot Point Method (PPM) is one of the popular methods to search hydraulic conductivities in the inverse method using groundwater flow equations. In this study, the Simultaneous Search based Pilot Point Method (SSBM) was applied with diverse information (e.g. hydraulic heads and/or tracer concentration) applications over previously developed sensitivity based Pilot Point Method (e.g. D-optimality based Pilot Point Method: DBM). In the case of DBM, due to the minimized the variance size, tracer concentration can be recognized as a tool to control the searching space of hydraulic conductivities. SSBM reduced the procedure of hydraulic conductivity searching, though it produced more variance for exploring hydraulic conductivities. In addition, SSBM was dependent on the initial hydraulic conductivity values for search finalized hydraulic conductivities. When tracer concentration was applied, searching hydraulic conductivities was more preferable than only when hydraulic head was applied. Applications of various data for searching hydraulic conductivities is recommended as a more efficient way.

  • In this paper, a dynamic analysis of the reciprocating compression mechanism of a small refrigeration compressor is performed. In the problem formulation of the mechanism dynamics, the viscous frictional force between the piston and the cylinder wall is considered in order to determine the coupled dynamic behaviors of the piston and the crankshaft. Simultaneous solutions are obtained for the equations of motion of the reciprocating mechanism and the time-dependent Reynolds equations for the lubricating film between the piston and the cylinder wall and for the oil films on the journal bearings. The hydrodynamic forces of the journal bearings are calculated by using a finite bearing model along with the Gumbel boundary condition. A Newton-Raphson procedure is employed in solving the nonlinear equations for the piston and crankshaft. The developed computer program can be used to calculate the complete trajectories of the piston and the crankshaft as functions of the crank angle under compressor-running conditions. The results explored the effects of the radial clearance of the piston, oil viscosity, and mass and mass moment of inertia of the piston and connecting rod on the stability of the compression mechanism.
