  • Large-scale Multi-disciplinary Systems(LMS) such as transportation, aerospace, defense etc. are complex systems in which there are many subsystems, interfaces, functions and demanding performance requirements. Because many contractors participate in the development, it is necessary to apply methods of sharing common objectives and communicating design status effectively among all of the stakeholders. The processes and methods of systems engineering which includes system requirement analysis; functional analysis; architecting; system analysis; interface control; and system specification development provide a success-oriented disciplined approach to the project. This paper shows not only the methodology and the results of model-based systems engineering to Automated Guided Transit(AGT) system as one of LMS systems, but also propose the extension of the model-based tool to help manage a project by linking WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), work organization, and PBS (Product Breakdown Structure). In performing the model-based functional analysis, the focus was on the operation concept of an example rail system at the top-level and the propulsion/braking function, a key function of the modern automated rail system. The model-based behavior analysis approach that applies a discrete-event simulation method facilitates the system functional definition and the test and verification activities. The first application of computer-aided tool, RDD-100, in the railway industry demonstrates the capability to model product design knowledge and decisions concerning key issues such as the rationale for architecting the top-level system. The model-based product design knowledge will be essential in integrating the follow-on life-cycle phase activities. production through operation and support, over the life of the AGT system. Additionally, when a new generation train system is required, the reuse of the model-based database can increase the system design productivity and effectiveness significantly.

Abstract In B-ISDN environment, various subscribers are concentrated into a service node via a broadband access network. The SG13 of ITU-T is standardizing a connection control protocol which provides dynamic allocation of ATM resources between an access network and a service node. To establish an ATM connection, interworking functions between the connection control protocol and the signaling protocol are performed at the service node. ITU-T adopts the sequential interworking model. In this paper, we propose the parallel interworking model which minimizes the overall connection setup delay by introducing the access network. Using the performance analysis, we compare our proposed parallel model with the existing sequential model in terms of connection setup delay and completion ratio. The workload parameters of RACE MAGIC project are applied to the analysis and simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that distributes processor time to the tasks decoding encoded frames with a goal maximizing total QoS (quality of services) of video conference system. An encoded frame has such a characteristic that the QoS of recovered frame image also increases as the processor time given for decoding the frame gets to increase. Thus, the quality of decoded image for each frame can be represented as a QoS function of the amount of service time given to decode. In addition, every stream of video conference has close time-dependency between continuous frames belonging to the same stream. Based on the time-dependency and QoS functions, we propose an on-line frame scheduling algorithm which does not schedule all frames in the system but just a few frames while maximizing total QoS of video streams in the conference. The simulation results show that, as the system load gets to increase, the proposed algorithm compared to the existing EDF algorithm can reduce the quality of decoded frame images more smoothly and show the movements of conference attendees more naturally without short cutting.

  • Recently, Internet based Electronic Commerce is recognized as one of the alternatives for strengthening sales power of small and medium companies. However, small and medium manufacturers can't adjust properly to the new environment because they are in short of money, personnel, and technology. To cope with this problem, this paper deals with the development of virtual manufacturing agent to support sales agent. The sales activity of most of parts manufacturing companies is based on orders of buyers. The process of promotion, receipt and selection of orders of the parts manufacturing is closely coupled with the load status of the production lines. On deciding whether to accept an order or not, as well as negotiating with buyers, sales person needs information such as load and schedule of production lines, manufacturability of the order. Therefore, the functions of virtual manufacturing agents manufacturability analysis, process planning, and scheduling are key features in developing an agent of sales activity for the parts manufacturing business. While most of research on virtual manufacturing system so far is focused on the simulation of each product, this paper deals with the development of agent assisting internet-based product sales by supporting production information promptly. The pilot system of virtual manufacturing agent is implemented using KQML-based agent template and Java-based expert system shell for a small molding company.

  • In this paper, photonic bandgap(PBG) bandstop filters which are composed of periodically etched circles in the ground plane show good microwave characteristics with the harmonic suppression on stopband. The PBG structures were analyzed using a finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) simulation and experimental measurement. The FDTD technique is used because it can simulate arbitrary 3-D structures and provide broadband frequency response. The analysis results are presented it is the same that only one row of etched circles and 2-dimension three rows of etched circles. And we show the PBG resonator characteristics between etched circles using field pattern and frequency characteristics as functions of etched circle number n, etched circle radius r and period a.

  • The next generation communication environment consists of various wireless access networks with distinct features that are configured as an overlay topology. In the network environments, the frequency of hand overs should be minimized and the error propagation should be solved in order to provide high-quality multimedia services to mobile users. Therefore, we propose an performance enhancement approach, based on mSCTP, that provides high quality multimedia services to mobile users by ameliorating the error propagation problem. We utilizes the following four functions: 1) the separation of transmission paths according to the types of frames. 2) retransmission strategy to minimize the loss rate of frames, 3) Foced vertical handover execution by utilizing bicasting, 4) using the stability period in order to reduce the effect of the ping pong phenomenon. The simulation results show that the proposed approach provides seamless multimedia service to mobile users by achieving error resilience.

  • The importance of the semiconductor industry in Korea has been growing, but the manufacturers are experiencing two major problems: poor optimization of production and low localization ratio of production equipments. Due to the complex manufacturing processes and special features such as OTD (On Time Delivery) and LIPAS (Line Item Performance Against Schedule) possibilities, several attempts to apply MRP or spreadsheet have been failed to meet the expectations. This paper describes the computer modeling technique as the solutions to analyze the problem, to formalize the semiconductor manufacturing process, and to build an advanced manufacturing environments. The computer simulation models are built referring the FAB facilities of the National Inter - University Semiconductor Research Center to show the FAB processes and the functions of each process.

  • The electricity distribution system in Korea is adopting a multi-grounding system. Protection of this distribution system against lightning is performed by installing overhead ground wires over the high voltage wires, and connecting the overhead ground wires to the ground every 200 m. The ground resistance in this system is limited not to exceed $50\Omega$ and overhead ground wire and neutral wire are multiple parallel lines. Although overhead ground wire and neutral wire are installed in different locations on the same pole, this circuit configuration has duplicated functions of providing a return path for unbalanced currents and protecting the distribution system against induced lightning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the induced lightning shielding effect according to the neutral wire installation structure of a 22.9kV distribution line in order to present a new 22.9kV distribution line structure model and characteristics. This study calculated induced lightning voltage by performing numerical analysis when an overhead ground wire is present in the multi-grounding type 22.9kV distribution line structure, and calculated the induced lightning shielding effect based on this calculated induced lightning voltage. In addition, this study proposed and analyzed an improved distribution line model allowing the use of both overhead wire and neutral wire to be installed in the current distribution lines. The result of MATLAB simulation using the conditions applied by Yokoyama showed almost no difference between the induced lightning voltage developed in the current line and that developed in the proposed line. This signifies that shielding the induced lightning voltage through overhead wire makes no difference between current and proposed distribution line structures. That is, this study found that the ground resistance of the overhead wire had an effect on the induced lightning voltage, and that the induced lightning shielding effect of overhead wire is small.

  • We have developed a computer simulator fur cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) based on the commercial Monte Carlo code, MCNP. All the functions to generate input files, run MCNP, convert output files to image data, reconstruct tomographs were realized in graphical user-interface form. The performance of the simulator was demonstrated by comparing with the experimental data. Although some discrepancies were observed due to the ignorance of the detailed physics in the simulation, such as scattered X-rays and noise in image sensors, the overall tendency was well agreed between the measured and simulated data. The developed simulator will be very useful for understanding the operation and the better design of CT systems.

  • Optimal pricing research in general has been focused on profit maximizing strategy under the given product life-time T. Here we have tried to study the effect of uncertain product life-time on dynamic optimal pricing strategy. In reality, the life-time of product is more likely to be uncertain and not known as well. In terms of approximating the model to the concerned reality, so-called model validity, it seems to be more desirable to consider the uncertainty of product life-time into the optimal pricing strategy model, For this purpose, we tried two different approaches. One is to consider diverse product life-time probability functions under fixed life-time T. In this case, we might have the same product life-time as the previous study, but the process could be different in the expectation of product's discontinuity. The other is that life-time itself is not determined and thus it is the situation in which we can only decide optimal price on incremental basis. The former is the situation in which although we got some strong guess on life-time of a certain product, the pattern of expected life-time probability could be different. The question is what could be optimal pricing strategies on such different product life-time situations. But since in the latter, we don't assume any idea on the life-time of product. proper optimal pricing could be derived only from the past prices and diffusion information. While the latter seems to be safer in the aspect of model assumption, the former could be more realistic because we might have more or less a prior knowledge on the product life-time itself.
