Magnetic resonance wireless power transfer (WPT) in the marine environment can be utilized in many applications. However, energy loss in seawater through eddy loss (EL) is another consideration other than WPT in air. Therefore, the effect of system parameters on electric field intensity (EFI) needs to be measured and ELs calculated to optimize such a system. In this paper, the usually complicated analytical expression of EFI is simplified to the product of frequency, current, coil turns, and a coefficient to analyze the eddy current loss (ECL). Moreover, as the calculation of ECL through volume integral is time-consuming, the equivalent eddy loss impedance (EELI) is proposed to help designers determine the optimum parameters quickly. Then, a power distribution model in seawater is conceived based on the introduction of EELI. An optimization flow chart is also proposed according to this power distribution model, from which a prototype system is developed which can deliver 100 W at 90% efficiency with a gap of 30 mm and a frequency of 107.1 kHz.

Purpose: A personal computer-based system was developed for automated metabolic profiling of organic aciduria and aminoacidopathy by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and data interpretation for the diagnosis of metabolic disorders Methods: For automatic data profiling and interpretation, we compiled retention time, two target ions and their intensity ratio for 77 organic acids and 13 amino acids metabolites. Metabolites above the cut-off values were flagged as abnormal compounds. The data interpretation was a based on combination of flagged metabolites. Diagnostic or index metabolites were categorized into three groups, "and", "or" and "NO" compiled for each disorder to improve the specificity of the diagnosis. Groups "and" and "or" comprised essential and optional compounds, respectively, to reach a specific diagnosis. Group "NO" comprised metabolites that must be absent to make a definite diagnosis. We tested this system by analyzing patients with confirmed Propionic aciduria and others. Results: In all cases, the diagnostic metabolites were identified and correct diagnosis was founded to be made among the possible disease suggested by the system. Conclusion: The study showed that the developed method could be the method of choices in rapid, sensitive and simultaneous screening for organic aciduria and amino acidopathy with this simplified automated system.

If a wall separates the bounded and unbounded spaces, then the wall’s role in transporting the acoustic characteristics of the two spaces is not well defined. In this paper, we attempted to see how the acoustic characteristics of two spaces are really affected by the spatial characteristics of the wall. In order to understand coupling mechanism, we choose a finite space and a semi-infinite space separated by the flexible or rigid wall and an opening. A volume interaction can be occurred in structure boundary and a pressure Interaction can be happened in the opening boundary. For its simplicity, without loosing generality, we use rather simplified rectangle model instead of generally shaped model. The source impedance is presented to the various types of boundaries. The distributions of pressure and active intensity are also presented at the cavity- and structure-dominated modes. The resulting modification, shifts of modal frequencies and changing of standing wave patterns to satisfy both coupled boundary conditions and governing equations, are presented.
This paper describes a simple method for evaluating the design wind loads for the structural frames of circular flat roofs with long spans. The dynamic response of several roof models were numerically analyzed in the time domain as well as in the frequency domain by using wind pressure data obtained from a wind tunnel experiment. The instantaneous displacement and bending moment of the roof were computed, and the maximum load effects were evaluated. The results indicate that the wind-induced oscillation of the roof is generally dominated by the first mode and the gust effect factor approach can be applied to the evaluation of the maximum load effects. That is, the design wind load can be represented by the time-averaged wind pressure multiplied by the gust effect factor for the first mode. Based on the experimental results for the first modal force, an empirical formula for the gust effect factor is provided as a function of the geometric and structural parameters of the roof and the turbulence intensity of the approach flow. The equivalent design pressure coefficients, which reproduce the maximum load effects, are also discussed. A simplified model of the pressure coefficient distribution is presented.

With developing the next generation high speed railway, there need to be plans to make sure of running safety though researchs on the crack and break of rail by rolling contact fatigue. Therefore, this study performed the parametric analysis effecting on the fatigue life of rail using simplified equations. It analyzed the internal stress of rail according to the track quality, train velocity, wheel radius, track stiffness, sleeper space, wheel load. For the more, via the finite element method, it analyzed shear force on the rail head which could be changed by the early length of crack, angle of crack and temperature. As a result, this study continued the main parameter effecting on the fatigue life of rail.
Modern design of long suspension bridges must satisfy at the same time spanning very long distances and limiting their response against several external loads, even if of high intensity. Structural Control, with the solutions it provides, can offer a reliable contribution to limit internal forces and deformations in structural elements when extreme events occur. This positive aspect is very interesting when the dimensions of the structure are large. Herein, an updated numerical model of an existing suspension bridge is developed in a commercial finite element work frame, starting from original data. This model is used to reevaluate an optimization procedure for a passive control strategy, already proven effective with a simplified model of the buffeting wind forces. Such optimization procedure, previously implemented with a quasi-steady model of the buffeting excitation, is here reevaluated adopting a more refined version of the wind-structure interaction forces in which wind actions are applied on the towers and the cables considering drag forces only. For the deck a more refined formulation, based on the use of indicial functions, is adopted to reflect coupling with the bridge orientation and motion. It is shown that there is no variation of the previously identified optimal passive configuration.

The direct growth method is simplified manufacturing process used to avoid damages and contaminants from the graphene transfer process. In this paper, graphene nano-walls (GNWs) were direct synthesized using electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma by varying the $CH_4/H_2$ gas flow rate on the copper foil at low temperature (without substrate heater). Investigations were carried out of the changes in the morphology and characteristic of GNWs due to the relative intensity of hydrocarbon radical and molecule in the ECR plasma. The results of these investigations were then discussed.

New real-time confocal microscopy using spectral encoding technique and slit confocal aperture is proposed and designed. Spectral encoding technique, which encodes one-dimensional spatial information of a specimen in wavelength, and slit aperture make it possible to obtain two-dimensional lateral image of the specimen simultaneously at standard video rates without expensive scanning units such as polygon mirrors and galvano mirrors. The working principle and the configuration of the system are explained. The variation in axial responses for the simplified model of the system with normalized slit width is numerically analyzed based on the wave optics theory. Slit width that directly affects the depth discrimination of the system is determined by a compromise between axial resolution and signal intensity from the simulation result. On the assumption of the lateral sampling resolution of 50 nm, design variables and governing equations of the system are derived. The system is designed to have the mapping error less than the half pixel size, to be diffraction-limited and to have the maximum illumination efficiency. The designed system has the FOV of $12.8um{\times}9.6um$, the theoretical axial FWHM of 1.1 um and the lateral magnification of-367.8.

The characteristics of the flow field in the tangentially fired furnace are presented. Experiments are conducted in the simplified cold type isothermal flow model. In the measurement of flow field, a hot wire anemometer is used. The hot wire was calibrated by lookup table method. The mean velocity field and turbulence characteristics are showed with changing the nozzle angle. In the center of the model, the low speed, unstable flow region is formed. The size and position of these regions are varied with changing the nozzle angle. It can be used as fundamental data in the design of the large furnace. From the experimental results, various turbulent characteristics of swirling flow field is obtained. And the entrainment mechanism of the jet flow field is described from the distribution of the skewness and the flatness. It can be used the raw data of approximate calculation and turbulent modelling.

Digital image correlation (DIC) is now a popular and extensively used full-field metrology technique. In general, DIC is performed by using a turnkey solution offered by various manufacturers of DIC. In this paper, a simple and economical set-up for DIC is proposed which uses easily accessible digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera rather than industrial couple-charged device (CCD) cameras. The paper gives a description of aspects of carrying a DIC experiment which includes experimental set-up, specimen preparation, image acquisition and analysis. The details provided here will be helpful to carry DIC experiments without specialized DIC testing rig. To validate the responses obtained from proposed DIC set-up, tension and fatigue tests on specimens made of IS 2062 Gr. E300 steel are determined. Tensile parameters for a flat specimen and stress intensity factor for an eccentrically-loaded single edge notch tension specimen are evaluated from results of DIC experiment. Results obtained from proposed DIC experiments are compared with those obtained from conventional methods and are found to be in close agreement. It is also noted that the high resolution of DSLR allows the use of proposed approach for fracture characterization which could not be carried out with a typical turnkey DIC solution employing a camera of 2MP resolution.
