We have successfully applied the nested PCR to detect Cylindrocarpon destructans, a major pathogen causing root rot disease from ginseng seedlings in our former study. The PCR assay, in this study, was used to detect the pathogen from soils. The nested PCR using internal transcribed spacer (ITS) 1, 4 primer set and Dest 1, 4 primer set maintained the specificity in soils containing various microorganisms. For a soil DNA extraction method targeting chlamydospores, when several cell wall disrupting methods were tested, the combination of lyophilization and grinding with glass beads, which broke almost all the chlamydospores, was the strongest. The DNA extraction method which was completed based on the above was simple and time-saving because of exclusion of unnecessary stages, and efficient to apply in soils. As three ginseng fields whose histories were known were analyzed, the PCR assay resulted as our expectation derived from the field information. The direct PCR method will be utilized as a reliable and rapid tool for detecting and monitoring C. destructans in ginseng fields.
Disease incidence (DI), pre-emergence damping-off (PDO), days until the first symptom appeared (DUS), disease progress curve (DPC), and area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) were investigated in vivo after sowing ginseng seeds in each of 37 ginseng-cultivated soils which were sampled from 4 regions in Korea. Non linear fitting parameters, A, B, K and M, were estimated from the Richards' function, one of the disease progress models, by using the DI at each day from the bioassay. Inter- and intra-relationships between disease variables and stand-missing rate (SMR) in fields were investigated by using the simple correlation analysis. Disease variables of the root rot were divided into two groups: variables related to disease incidence, e.g., DI, AUDPC and A parameter, and variables related to disease progress, e.g., B, K and M parameters. DI, AUDPC, and DUS had significant correlations with SMR in ginseng fields, and then it showed that the disease development in vivo corresponded with that in fields. Soil samples could be separated into 3 and 4 groups, respectively, on the basis of the principal component 1 (PC1) and the principal component 2 (PC2), which were derived from the principal component analysis (PCA) of Richards' parameters, A, B, K and M. PC1 accounted for B, K and M parameters, and PC2 accounted for A parameter.
The direct-drive servo valve(DDV) is a kind of one-stage valve because the main spool valve is directly driven by the dc motor. Since the DDV structure is simple, it is less expensive, more reliable, and offers a reduced internal leakage and a reduced sensitivity to fluid contamination. The control system of the DDV is highly nonlinear due to a current limiter, a voltage limiter, and the flow-force effect on the spool motion. The shape of the step response of the DDV-control system varies considerably according to the magnitudes of the step input and the load pressure. The system-design requirements mean that the overshoots should be less than 20%, and the errors at 0.02s should be less than 2%, regardless of the reference-step input sizes of 1V and 5V and the load-pressure magnitudes of 0MPa and 20.7MPa. To satisfy the system-design requirements, the PID-controller parameters of $K_c$, $T_i$ and $T_d$, and the derivative-feedback gain of $K_{der}$ are designed using the root locus and manual tuning.
Two fungal isolates obtained from roots of Cymbidium goeriingii in Jeju island were confirmed to be symbiotic with orchid plantlets, and were compared with other orchid mycorrhizal(OM) fungi previously isolated. The two isolates differed in their peloton structures formed in the roots of Cymbidium kanran hybrid 'Chungsu' and in responses of orchid plant. These two isolates differed from the additionally tested OM fungi in some features, and from root damaging species of Rhizoctonia and Fusarium as based on cluster analysis after PCR-RAPD with the primers, Bioneer-28 and OPO-2. With this simple and fast technique, it was possible to distinguish OM fungi from the plant root pathogenic fungi based on calculation of their polymorphic bands. This technique can therefore be helpful to distinguish the OM fungi from the root pathogens. Particularly, the new isolates are considered as new resource of symbiotic fungi for horticultural industries.
For scalable multicast transport, one of the promising approaches is to employ a control tree known as acknowledgement (ACK) tree which can be used to convey information on reliability and session status from receivers to a root sender. The existing tree configuration has focused on a 'bottom-up' scheme in which ACK trees grow from leaf receivers toward a root sender. This paper proposes an alternative 'top-down' configuration where an ACK tree begins at the root sender and gradually expands by including non-tree nodes into the tree in a stepwise manner. The proposed scheme is simple and practical to implement along with multicast transport protocols. It is also employed as a tree configuration in the Enhanced Communications Transport Protocol, which has been standardized in the ITU-T and ISO/IEC JTC1. From experimental simulations, we see that the top-down scheme provides advantages over the existing bottom-up one in terms of the number of control messages required for tree configuration and the number of tree levels.

Distributed-type railguns are designed to maintain the armature current and the length between the armature and the current-feed region nearly constant with time. This paper deals with factors affecting current distribution, effective resistance and effective skin depth in the rail of a distributed-type railgun. Analytical solutions for the current distributions and resistance in the rail are presented for a simple two-dimensional model under steady-state contions. For diffusion limited current, it is found that effective rail resistance is proportional to the square root of the relative velocity, the permeability of the rail and the length between the armature and that effective skin depth of the rail is proportional to the square root of the length and inversely proportional to the square root of the permeability, the conductivity and the velocity.
In the five first sections of this paper we define and study the hypergeometric transmutation operators $V^W_k$ and $^tV^W_k$ called also the trigonometric Dunkl intertwining operator and its dual corresponding to the Heckman-Opdam's theory on ${\mathbb{R}}^d$. By using these operators we define the hypergeometric translation operator ${\mathcal{T}}^W_x$, $x{\in}{\mathbb{R}}^d$, and its dual $^t{\mathcal{T}}^W_x$, $x{\in}{\mathbb{R}}^d$, we express them in terms of the hypergeometric Fourier transform ${\mathcal{H}}^W$, we give their properties and we deduce simple proofs of the Plancherel formula and the Plancherel theorem for the transform ${\mathcal{H}}^W$. We study also the hypergeometric convolution product on W-invariant $L^p_{\mathcal{A}k}$-spaces, and we obtain some interesting results. In the sixth section we consider a some root system of type $BC_d$ (see [17]) of whom the corresponding hypergeometric translation operator is a positive integral operator. By using this positivity we improve the results of the previous sections and we prove others more general results.
Lodging is classified as root lodging caused by the loss of supporting force in the root, bending caused by the deformation of the stem and breaking where the stem breaks down as loads exceeding critical elasticity were applied. This research excluded breaking which is not in a state of equilibrium and tried to partition the level of lodging using an algebraic model in root lodging and stem lodging, or bending. When a vertical load was applied, the deformation of the stem of rice plant showed the form of a quadratic equation. The trace of the panicle neck in the process of lodging was an ellipse-shape. When loading was pure root lodging, the trace of the panicle neck became a circle of which culm length is the radius. When it was a pure stem lodging, the trace of the panicle neck is an ellipse of which major axis is culm length and minor axis is 0.64* culm length. When both stem lodging and root lodging occurred in a natural setting, the partitioning of lodging can be calculated by a formula using eccentricity of an ellipse, S=e*100/0.768(S is the ratio of stem lodging in the whole lodging, e is eccentricity of the ellipse). This method is expected to be useful in simple lodging partitioning. We could also calculate the partitioning of stem lodging and root lodging as units of angles as an accuracy method, by using a straight line calculated by differentiating a quadratic equation of stem deformation at the origin of the coordinates. These two methods for dividing root and stem lodging showed different values. However, each of them showed almost same values with different lodging degree in one plant.
Analyses of now karyotypes using different maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines have been performed. The accumulation and isolation of high quality and quantity metaphase chromosomes from root tips can be achieved from many kinds of maize lines. The chromosome suspensions were prepared by a simple slicing method from synchronized maize root tips and analyzed with a now cytometry. The variations of experimental now karyotypes were detected among inbred lines in terms of the positions and/or the numbers of chromosome peaks. The 2C DNA amount among 8 inbred lines ranged from 5.09 to 5.52 pg. The variability of DNA content in maize chromosome 1 was 9.1 % ranging from 0.685 to 0.747 pg. The selection of appropriate maize lines is critical for sorting specific single chromosome types. At least five different chromosome types can be discriminated and sorted from five maize lines.
Let (equation omitted) be a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra with the indecomposable generalized Cartan matrix A and W be its Weyl group. Let $\theta$ be the highest root of the corresponding finite dimensional simple Lie algebra ${\gg}$ of g. For the type ${A_N}^{(r)}$, we give an element $\omega_{o}\;\in\;W$ such that ${{\omega}_o}^{-1}({\{\Delta\Delta}_{+}})\;=\;{\{\Delta\Delta}_{-}}$. And then we prove that the degree of nilpotency of the subalgebra (equation omitted) is greater than or equal to $ht{\theta}+1$.
