  • An efficient method is presented to design filters without the similarity transform of their coupling coefficient matrix as circuit parameters, which is very tedious due to pivoting and deciding rotation angles needed during the iterations. The transfer function of a filter is directly used for the design and its desired form is derived by the optimized rational-function fitting technique. A 3rd order coaxial lowpass filter is taken as an example to validate the proposed method.

  • Recently, studies on utilizing tensor expression on image data analysis and processing have been attracting much interest. The purpose of this study is to develop an efficient system for classifying image patterns by using second order tensor expression. To achieve the goal, we propose a data generation model expressed by class factors and environment factors with second order tensor representation. Based on the data generation model, we define a function for measuring similarities between two images. The similarity function is obtained by estimating the probability density of environment factors using a matrix normal distribution. Through computational experiments on a number of benchmark data sets, we confirm that we can make improvement in classification rates by using second order tensor, and that the proposed similarity function is more appropriate for image data compared to conventional similarity measures.

  • Conventional similarity measures suggested so far can be classified into three categories: (i) geometric similarity measures, (ij) set-theoretic similarity measures, and (iii) matching function-based similarity measures. On the basis of the characteristics of the conventional similarity measures, in this paper, we propose a new similarity measure of fuzzy sets and investigate its properLies. Finally, numelical examples are provided for the comparison of characteristics of the proposed similarity measure and other previous similarity measures.

  • Computing music similarity is an indispensable component in developing music search service. This paper proposes a relevance weight of each chromagram vector for cover song identification in computing a music similarity function in order to boost identification accuracy. We derive a music similarity function using the relevance weight based on the probabilistic relevance model, where higher relevance weights are assigned to less frequently-occurring discriminant chromagram vectors while lower weights to more frequently-occurring ones. Experimental results performed on two cover music datasets show that the proposed music similarity improves the cover song identification performance.

  • This study pre-processed the characters, performed the feature extraction for the beauty evaluation, and then defined the similarity function. It suggested the definition of the similarity function, and the extraction of the features of character elements. it experimented how much the various input character patterns were similar with the standard character patterns, found their results were almost similar with the expected ones and the results of beauty evaluation on general people through the questionaire with the results of the methods suggested here.

  • This paper proposes on the Hanguel character CAI system using image processing. For this, firstly, the characters written by elementary school students or foreigners arc captured by CCD camera. Secondly, Recognition is accomplished by pre-processing, thinning and recognition processes. Thirdly, strokes are separated and beauty evaluation is done by matching feature value of the input image from the similarity measure function. In particular, this paper describe to define the similarity measuring function using extracted factor values after getting the beauty evaluation factor values of the consonant in the entire CAI system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated by experiments.

  • A Gaussian noise is caused by surrounding environment or channel interference when transmitting image. The noise reduces not only image quality degradation but also high-level image processing performance. The Non-Local Means (NLM) filter finds similarity in the neighboring sets of pixels to remove noise and assigns weights according to similarity. The weighted average is calculated based on the weight. The NLM filter method shows low noise cancellation performance and high complexity in the process of finding the similarity using weight allocation and neighbor set. In order to solve these problems, we propose an algorithm that shows an excellent noise reduction performance by using Summed Square Image (SSI) to reduce the complexity and applying the weighting function based on a cosine Gaussian kernel function. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The scalability of a grid system should be efficiently designed to handle the increasing number of grid users. This paper presents a scalable resource sharing mechanism among virtual organizations (VO) in grid environment by the scalable virtual organizations (SVO). The proposed grid architecture is composed of standard services of a grid system to manage the SVO. We propose a group similarity function which is used to determine similarities among VOs to select the VOs to merge. We compared other similarity functions to the GSF and determined the throughput performance of the SVO using simulation for grid system.

  • Study about fuzzy entropy and similarity measure on intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) were proposed, and analyzed. Unlike fuzzy set, IFSs contains uncertainty named hesistancy, which is contained in fuzzy membership function itself. Hence, designing fuzzy entropy is not easy because of ununified entropy definition. By considering different fuzzy entropy definitions, fuzzy entropy is designed and discussed their relation. Similarity measure was also presented and verified its usefulness to evaluate degree of similarity.

  • Computing music similarity is an indispensable component in developing music search service. This paper focuses on learning a music similarity function in order to boost cover song identification performance. By using the probabilistic linear discriminant analysis, we construct a latent music space where the distances between cover song pairs reduces while the distances between the non-cover song pairs increases. We derive a music similarity function by testing hypothesis, whether two songs share the same latent variable or not, using the probabilistic models with the assumption that observed music features are generated from the learned latent music space. Experimental results performed on two cover music datasets show that the proposed music similarity improves the cover song identification performance.
