로마네스크 시대 복식의 구조적 분석 - 여성복식을 중심으로 - (An analysis on the structure of the Romanesque era's costume - Centering around woman's costume -)

  • This study has resulted in the followings applying costume's form and meaning to the theory of structuralism established by Saussure and the extensive and contained meanings of Roland Barthes. The kinds of woman's costume of the Romanesque era were not various, but those of the royal family and aristocratic class were more various and decorated better than the lowly persons. So their social levels could be differed by the forms of the costume they wore. Each form of costume was differed according to the structural elements and showed the feature that the form is the costume of the era and social position's differences of the wearers' sexes, levels, and vocations in the same era. Costume's analistic body was the costume's form selected according to the central analystic elements, this showed the meaning of the era's levels and classes, that is, the costume's structure was reflected by the era's features. In the structure of the woman's costume in the Romanesque era, many religious features were emphasized and the elements forming each analystic body were classified and meant the society's features. 조선후기 사랑방 목가구의 표현과 의미 구조 분석 (Analysis of Expressive Features and Structural Meanings in Korean Men's Furniture of the 19th century)

  • This paper aims to examine the fundamental relationship of what principles cause the aesthetic shapes in Korean sarangbang furniture of the $19^{th}$ century. Focusing on the Greimas' isotopic and semantic structure analysis, this research analyzed the traditional Korean men's furniture in four steps; signifier analysis, isotopic analysis, semantic structure analysis, and comprehensive interpretation. The results show that the expressive qualities of sarangbang furniture included visual symmetric aesthetics, and the hues of natural materials with dark tones. The manufacturing process emphasized the characteristics of natural materials; while diversity was respected in decorations, function as restrained form was also important with a concise image. Through these characteristics, sarangbang furniture revealed a balance, a harmony of contrastive elements, and a restrained aesthetics. Within these qualities, it was seen that aesthetic principles, such as "severance and communication," "artifice and nature," "restraint and manifestation," "toughness and softness," "filling and emptying" and "decoration and utility" were in a mutually supplementary relationship. At the basis of this aesthetic thought appears to be Confucianism, which had been the model for seonbi politics and scholarship.

An Analysis on Structures of Man's Costume in Byzantine Empire

  • The forms of man's costumes in Byzantine Empire were changed according to each composition of costumes. Those forms of costumes had common features of each period when costumes were included. At the same time, however, the fact that differences existed in accordance with a social position including gender, class, occupation, etc. even though in same period were showed. Analytic elements of man's costumes in Byzantine Empire were selected by important factors. This showed the meanings of position and class in that time. The kinds of analytic elements in man's outwear were various but the forms of costumes were not developed because christianity influenced the forms of clothing in the Middle Ages. As the result of synthesis, the main factor of man's costumes was a tunic in Byzantine Empire of the Middle Ages The phases of the times were reflected on the structure of man's costumes in Byzantine Empire. In particular, religious feature was emphasized, and analytic elements of costumes having meanings showed the features of the society at the Middle Ages. For example, a central analytic element of man's costume, an outer garment was a tunic style of H-silhouette that hid the body line. This was influenced by the phases of the times. Namely, the costume stands as a symbol of the times, and also is a cultural sign that reflects phases like politics, economy, religion.

롤랑 바르트의 텍스트로 본 렘 콜하스, SANAA, 소우 후지모토 건축의 특성 (A Study on the Works of Rem Koolhaas, SANAA, Sou Fujimoto through the Text of Roland Barthes)

  • The semiotics philosopher Roland Barthes declared 'the death of the author'. This means a sense of skepticism about author-centered writing in literature, and that readers and critics must also change their reading attitudes. In architecture, too, author-centered design appears. Architects sometimes try to express their will and concepts strongly through their work. However, this architecture is oriented toward identity, self-revealing, self-centered, and eventually without inspiration. On the other hand, the signifier does not result in a single meaning, and it is architecture as text that allows readers to enjoy the pleasure of deciphering. The purpose of this study is to investigate that unilateral by the will of the architect. Or whether there is a potential for non-intelligence and the possibility of generating meaning. In particular, we will analyze the works of Rem Koolhaas, SANAA and Sou Fujimoto to see if they are free from the will of the architect and can obtain the user's true freedom. As a result, we want to reveal the potential of various interpretations by users in contemporary architecture.

Authority of Image in Internet Space

  • Language and letter are represented by a combination of its signifier and signified. All symblos are commonly calling direct attention to people who are living in the physical world. However, in cyberspace, the image takes control once inhabited by the language. Cyberspace with anonymity and deoent physical nature has something with physical laws. In this space the statue transcends the imaginary realm. Ideology gives a greater connotation by giving a series of regulation to images floating in cyberspace. Even if various media have the same image, the meaning of the image changes depending on which ideology is used. The impact of this on the public is great. In this study, I discuss the ideology in cyberspace where is supposedly wide open to who visits and spreads all the thoughts without suppression and the human body. The main ideas would be who owns the ideology and what does it want to control and how the people would react to the ideology. This paper would eventually head the prototype that visualizes above ideas. Though the interactive media it will also show the subject in the real world is accept the images floating in the cyberspace without any doubts.

미국'남부문학'은 현존하는가?-『머쉰 드림』에 나타난 미완성의 기억과 기억의 물질성 (Is "Southern Literature" Alive?: Machine Dream's Incomplete Memories and Their Materiality)

  • Keeping in mind the hybridity and plurality of Southern Literature, this paper discusses the traits of Southern literature in Jayne Ann Phillips's first novel, Machine Dream. The novel's frequent use of memory and oral reconstruction of a family history accompanied by the feeling of loss in the process of depicting the South's past typically signifies "The Southern" which reminds us of the works of William Faulkner, Katherine Ann Porter, and Eudora Welty. Nevertheless, Phillips's South is more fragmented and her narrative is more evasive and varied than any of her Southern predecessors. The South of the twentieth century from the period of Depression until 1972 is reconstructed differently depending on memories and desires of the four members of Hampson family in this novel, either as a place of nostalgia or as the place of trauma or as the place to survive only in memory. The oxymoronic title of the novel, "machine dreams" signifies that dream and memory of the South cannot remain independent in its epistemological entity but exist as a mixture of materiality of every day life in the modern South. The hybridity of this dream and of the South is what defines itself as Southern. Yet Phillips retains feeling of loss and lament enough to create a modern Southern novel rooted in Southern Literature. Thus, the title itself works an antinomic signifier of both the presence and absence of the dream of the South and of Southern Literature.

Structuralist Methodological Characteristics of Brand Identity Symbolization in Nike Advertising

  • Purpose: This study sought to examine the symbolization of brand identity in Nike golf advertisements and to provide implications for sporting goods ads. Research design, data, and methodology: The study employed Socher's semiotic theory to analyze characteristics embedded in Nike video advertisements. In specific, the study selected 'No cup is safe' among Nike video ads and analyzed structures of ad message and presented metaphors of ad messages. Results: As a study on the semiotic analysis of communication by case, this study investigated how the brand identity pursued by Nike in the advertisement is symbolized by identifying the signifier and signified in the advertisement. As a result of the study, it was possible to segment and analyze a total of 8 advertisement scenes, from the most important tee shot in golf, setting the aiming, sending to the center of the fairway, and applying the general situation of ball in and hole out to the cases of Tiger Woods and McIlroy, thereby helping the general public. Conclusions: Summary of above results showed that it was also conveying the message of metaphor and metonymy that 'I can be like Tiger Woods and McIlroy' by using Nike golf products. Further implications were discussed.

Neurophysiology of Amplification and Mutation of Poetic Sense: Focusing on Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo "I do not untrustworthy"

  • Sometimes, literary therapy is to create an abscission layer at the mind and remove the signifier of love, by the abscission layer. The purpose of this study is to reveal the mechanism of literary therapy by mutation in human-created sentences and to activate literary therapy. In Gosijo, the abscission layer of Seo Gyeongdok's mind is present in the layer of the "falling leaf" of the his Sijo's last sentence, and the abscission layer of Hwang Jin-yi's mind exists in the layer of the "falling leaf" of the her Sijo's last sentence. The "falling leaf" created by the abscission layer of Seo Gyeongdok's sentence acts as an action potential to the nervous system of Hwang Jin-yi. In Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo, the abscission layer is also activated, forming a "leaf". Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo constructs a new sensory layer that is extended and mutated more than the meaning of space between lines of Seo Gyeongdok's Sijo. In her Sijo, Hwang Jin-yi twists and twists Seo Gyeongdok's sentences to squeeze the sound. She accepts the Seo Gyeongdok's sentences and twists in the first sentence and twists out of the second sentence once more to produce the mutation in the last sentence. As a result of her sentence twist, Seo Kyung-duk's visual sense of "falling leaf" is mutated into a "falling leaf's sound" of auditory sense. This mutation process works as a healing mechanism in the human body. If this study will continue in the future, it will be possible to activate literary therapy by Sijo.

  • A point of view has been diversified where it has been put. We are living in the era that requests many standpoints to us to understand relations involved with me and my surrounding and it will speed up as the aspect has been changed so far. This phase is not exceptional to the design. Various spaces engaged in us have an immaterial phenomenon as composed by, so it is conceptualized to try the other way differentiated before. On the other hand, we can often meet examples of a literature scenario through conceptualizing an immaterial phenomenon as organized. Because of the difference between an individual's value and environment, it is criticized because of limitation to probe right and wrong of the objective feasibility. However, it is requested that this method needs to have an organized grammar in the interconnection broken of the standard of right and wrong in the science as well as goodness, evil and beauty in the morality. Nowadays a montage, which means the way to create objective by combining different points, is more multifariously applied in the generation of mixture asking various meanings and signifier and it's been widely extended. This study intends to pursue a new methodical approach focused on a characteristic of the montage and puts the goal on deduction for an expressive way of a montage specificity practically indicated at the shopping space through the space translation of the montage conception as well as plot of a movie. In conclusion, this study is how to be expressed of the montage expression method to understand.

광고에 나타난 텍스트성과 수용자 해석에 관한 연구 - 이니스프리 광고를 중심으로 - (A Study on The Textuality and Reader′s Interpretation mentioned in The AD - especially on innisfree advertisement-)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 광고에 나타난 텍스트성에 기초하여 광고가 수용자 에게 해독되는 과정을 기호학적 관점에서 풀어보고 광고텍스트에 나타난 슈기적 기호체계들의 관계를 규면하는데 있다. 이를 위래 일정시기돈안 집행되었던 연작광고를 중심으로 가변적 특성을 파악 했으며 이를통해 텍스트간의 연결구조와 수용자의 광고 해석에 관한 의미구조 파악에 접근 하였다. 이결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같은 결론을 모색할수 있었다 광고택스트는 제품자체의 질이나 삶의반영 이라기 보다는 변혁적 기표를 사용하여 메세지를 생산한다 뿐만아니라 그 자체의 의미를 드러내기 위하여 정보 지향적인 관범을 취하기보다는 사고의 변형적 방법을 선택한다. 관고는 그 자체의 생산적 노력에 못지 않게 여러채널을 통한 수요자의 해석여부에 따라 그 이상의 메세지를 생산할수 있다. 연상텍스트의 내,외적 연결성 수용자의 해석과정,테마적 구성은 광고 텍스트를 구성하는 주요한 요소로 볼 수 있다.
