Purpose: This study was intended to discover the effect of the turning training on figure of 8 tract on stroke patients' static and dynamic balance, as well as walking. Methods: A total of 42 stroke patients participated in this study. The training group was trained on the figure of 8 tract, while the control group was trained on the straight path for 30 minutes per day, for 4 weeks. Berg balance scale was used to measure the balance of the patients, before and after the training, and Good balance system was used to measure the sway speed and the distance of COG while standing. To measure the ability of walking, TUG and FSST were also used. Results: There were significant increases in the average score of Berg balance scale, in both groups after the training, and also significant difference between both groups were observed. The training group showed significant differences in the static balance ability, as well as anteroposterior and mediolateral sway speed. Further, there were significant increases in the dynamic balance ability, COP total distance, and TUG in both groups. The results showed more differences in comparing the control group with that of the training group. In FSST, there was no change in the control group, but there was a significant increase in the training group. Conclusion: Turning training on figure of 8 tract in stroke patients significantly increased the static and dynamic balance and walking ability. Based on the results, it can be seen that the training on the figure of 8 tract can influence the ability of balance and walking, which can lead to appropriate reactions to the change of environment and various tasks. Thus, it is assumed that turning training on figure of 8 tract as a means of improving the condition of stroke patients can be a meaningful program.
Purpose: To improve pulmonary function and decrease in balance ability with increasing forward head position and vertebral curvature, we applied Figure-8 brace to confirm the immediate effect on vital capacity and balance and to see if it is applicable. Methods: A total of 34 elderly women aged 65 or older and young women in their 20s with FHP were screened to measure vital capacity, measuring the forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC), and measuring the foot pressure to see the change in balance. For statistical analysis, the difference between pre and post values was compared using pared t-test. Results: As a result of vital capacity measurements, there was no significant difference between FEV1 and FVC for women over 65 years old (p>0.05). Young women in their 20s had no significant difference in FEV1 (p>0.05), and FVC had significant differences (p<0.05). In measuring foot pressure to measure balance, both women aged 65 and above and young women in their 20s had a significant decrease in anterior foot pressure, and a significant increase in posterior foot pressure (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study did not positively affect the vital capacity of elderly women with FHP. However, the significant increase in vital capacity of young women in their 20s suggests that contraction of the abdominal muscle is necessary during forced expiration. Therefore, it is believed that proper application and therapeutic interventions should be combined when applying Figure-8 brace.
Purpose: This study investigated the immediate effects of a figure-8 shoulder brace and taping intervention on round shoulder posture, thoracic kyphosis, and chest expansion mobility in forward head posture. Methods: Thirty patients with forward head posture were assigned randomly to the figure-8 shoulder brace group (n = 15) or the taping intervention group (n = 15). Patients were assessed for forward head posture, shoulder posture, thoracic kyphosis, and chest expansion. Results: The figure-8 shoulder brace and taping intervention groups showed a significant difference for forward head posture, shoulder posture, and thoracic kyphosis after the experiment (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that a figure-8 shoulder brace and taping intervention has a positive effect on rounded shoulder posture, thoracic kyphosis, and chest expansion in patients with forward head posture.
This study aimed at studying the sequence of the Figure Transformation Learning, inquiring relationship among these transformations and then researching whether there is the difference of the learning ability or not between by teaching them as it is independent and by teaching them as it is contains. (Hypothesis 1) It may be more effective to teach The Sequence of Transformation Learning by beginning with peculiar field, ending with general field than vice versa At the result of verification-C $R_{M}$=2.59, 0.005
$R_{M}$=5.19, p<0.005-significant difference appeared. It is proved more effective to teach the Figure Transformation Learning the way it contains than the way it is independent. Synthesizing two hypothesises of the above, the conclusion is following The Figure Transformation Learning should be taught by beginning with peculiar field. ending with general field (congruent transformationlongrightarrowsimilar transformationlongrightarrowprojective transformationlongrightarrowtopological transformation). To teach it the way it contains is more effective.ive.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between the body cathexis, appearance management behaviors and satisfaction with apparel fit according to physical figure of college women who had deep interests in their body and appearance. Data for this study was obtained from 413 college women in Taegu and Kyungpook Province. Means, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe's post hoc comparison were used in data analysis. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to establish intra-rater, inter-rater, test-retest reliability, and concurrent validity of figure-of-8 walk test in people with stroke. Methods : The subjects of this study were 17 patients who were diagnosed with a stroke. Subjects were tested twice by the same raters, with 1 day between tests. Subjects were assessed by two physical therapists. Test-retest reliability was calculated using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). The concurrent validity was demonstrated by spearman correlation of F8WT with 10m walking test (10MWT), timed up and go test (TUG), Berg balance scale (BBS), dynamic gait index (DGI) and four square step test (FSST). Results : Intra-rater, inter-rater, test- retest of F8WT time, showed high reliability. Intra-rater, inter-rater, test-retest of F8WT steps demonstrated high reliability. Intra-rater, inter-rater, test-retest of F8WT total smoothness score showed below moderate reliability. There was a significant positive correlation of F8WT time with 10MWT, TUG, FSST. There was a significant negative correlation of F8WT time with DGI, BBS. There was a significant positive correlation of F8WT steps with 10MWT, TUG, FSST. There was a significant negative correlation of F8WT steps with DGI. There was a significant positive correlation of F8WT test total smoothness score with BBS. Conclusion : The time, and number of steps in F8WT show high inter, intra-rater, test-retest reliability. The F8WT smoothness shows below moderate reliability. The F8WT shows high concurrent validity with other comparable balance, and walking tests. The F8WT is a valid and reliable measure for assessing walking function in patients with a stroke.
As the blueberry content in batter increased, the pH of batter decreased According to the measured results about specific gravity of muffin batter, there was no significant difference among each batter including 0% 10% and 15% blueberry, while each 15% 20% and 30% dough showed significant difference (p<0.001). According to the results about general quality characteristics of muffins such as volume, weight and specific gravity, as the content of blueberry juice increased, the volume decreased. In terms of measuring specific volume, it decreased as the added amount increased According to measuring the chromaticity of muffins, as the blueberry content increased in the muffins, brightness and yellowness decreased while redness increased In terms of the measurement of texture, the hardness showed significant difference among all sample muffins (p<0.001). Significant difference was not shown in the springiness (p<0.05). As the amount of blueberry juice increased, the chewiness of the muffins was grown. The result showed a significant difference between samples in the adhesiveness (p<0.001). As the amount of blueberry juice increased, the adhesiveness of muffins also increased In the organoleptic test, a significant difference was shown in the color among all sample (p<0.001). The blueberry juice content of 20% showed highest figures with $7.12{\pm}0.67$. In terms of flavor, the content of 20% also showed highest figures among all samples with $7.16{\pm}0.62$ (p<0.001). Concerning the taste all samples showed a significant difference while 20% content did the highest figure. In the overall acceptability the content of 10% showed the lowest figure while 20% displayed the highest figure with 7.16. According to the quality characteristics of blueberry muffins, the best blueberry juice content would be 20% content group.
The paper concerns with the visual illusion strength for the static and dynamic figures which are generated on computer CRT. The Vertical-Horizontal, Ponzo, and Muller-Lyer illusion are studied under various conditions of type, size, and background angle of figure. And the results are obtained through the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). This paper concludes that the size and background angle of figure generally effect on the visual illusion, and there is a significant difference between figure types. These results can be applied to eliminate the visual illusion in real design.
This study was conducted to compare the body image perception, weight control experiences and the eating disorders according to where they were born, and the length of residence in USA among Korean-American college students. Three hundred college students participated in the study: 144 males and 156 females, 122 America-born (AB) and 171 Korea-born (KB) who live in New York City and New Jersey. Subjects responded to a self-administered questionnaire. The results showed that the ratio of overweight (23.2%) and obesity (26.8%) of males was higher than females'(16.1% and 6.3%, respectively). There were no significant differences according to born-place or the length of residence in USA of KB. People who had tried to control their weight were 58%. The ratio of weight control experiences of females (72.4%) was higher than males' (42.4%) as well as people who were normal or underweight than who were overweight or obesity. There were no significant differences according to born-place or the length of the residence in the USA of KB. In body image perception, the subjects who were normal and underweight overestimated their body figure, and the subjects who were overweight and obese underestimated their body figure. The desired and ideal figure of female students was significantly thinner than the current figure and also that of male students. There were no significant differences according to born-place or the length of the residence in USA of KB. The ratio of eating disorder was 8.7%, and females had higher percentage than males. And shorter they lived in USA, the percentage of eating disorder was higher.
