Autogenous shrinkage of concrete has been defined as decrease in volume due to hydration cement, not due to other causes such as evaporation, temperature change and external load and so on. For ordinary concretes, autogenous shrinkage is so little compared to the other deformations that it has been dignored. It has recently been proved, however, that autogenous shrinkage considerably increase with decrease in water to cement ratio. And it has been reported that cracking can be caused by autogenous shrinkage, when high- strength concretes were used. In this study, we propose an analytical system to represent autogenous shrinkage in cement paste in order to control crack due to autogenous shrinkage. The system is composed with the hydration model and pore structure model. Contrary to the usual assumption of uniform properties in the hydration progress, the hydration model to refine Tomosawa's represents the situation that inner and outer products are made in cement paste. The pore structure model is based upon the physical phenomenon of ion diffusion in cement paste and chemical phenomenon of hydration in cement particle. The proposed model can predict the pore volume ratio and the pore structure in cement paste under variable environmental conditions satisfactorily The autogenous shrinkage prdiction system with regard to pore structure development and hydration at early ages for different mix-proportions shows a reasonable agreement with the experimental data.

High-performance concrete (HPC) may be expected to differ from usual concrete with respect to shrinkage behavior, and it shows high autogenous shrinkage due to the use of very low water-binder ratio (w/b) and various admixtures. Therefore, in order to minimize the shrinkage stress and to ensure the service life of concrete structure, volumetric change of HPC should be understood. In this study, small prisms made of HPC with w/b of 0.32 and blast-furnace slag content of $0\%,\;30\%,\;and\;50\%$ were prepared to measure the volumetric changes such as autogenous shrinkage, drying shrinkage, and swelling under three different curing conditions. It was observed that the concrete cured. sealed condition showed only autogenous shrinkage while the concrete let to dry condition at temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of $60\%$ during the test period showed both autogenous and drying shrinkage. Moreover, the concrete exposed to dry condition after 2-day water curing swelled and then started to shrink with age. The total shrinkage (autogenous+drying) of this concrete was smaller than that of the concrete cured dry condition, especially at early-age. Therefore, the early-age moisture curing is very effective to control or minimize the volumetric change and its induced stress of HPC.

Steel-concrete composition is widely used in the construction due to efficient utilization of materials. The service load behavior of composite structures is significantly affected by cracking, creep and shrinkage effects in concrete. In order to control these effects in concrete slab, an efficient and novel strategy has been proposed by use of fiber reinforced concrete near interior supports of a continuous beam. Numerical study is carried out for the control of cracking, creep and shrinkage effects in composite beams subjected to service load. A five span continuous composite beam has been analyzed for different lengths of fiber reinforced concrete near the interior supports. For this purpose, the hybrid analytical-numerical procedure, developed by the authors, for service load analysis of composite structures has been further improved and generalized to make it applicable for composite beams having spans with different material properties along the length. It is shown that by providing fiber reinforced concrete even in small length near the supports; there can be a significant reduction in cracking as well as in deflections. It is also observed that the benefits achieved by providing fiber reinforced concrete over entire span are not significantly more as compared to the use of fiber reinforced concrete in certain length of beam near the interior supports in continuous composite beams.

The effects of substituting cement with fly ash(10%, 15%, 20%) and different fiber addition(polypropylene, cellulose, poly vinyl alcohol), on the control of microcrack and enhanced durability performance of face slab concrete in CFRD was studied experimentally It was conducted experiments of plastic shrinkage of mortar and concrete, and drying shrinkage of concrete. Also, durability test were carried out the chloride permeability, abrasion resistance and freeze-thaw repetition. Through the experimental results, it was concluded that ploy vinyl alcohol fiber containing concrete was the most effective mixture in control of cracking and durability.

When press concrete with high W/B was hardened, it should consider a crack to make stress by drying shrinkage. For control of crack, wire-mesh used to reinforce concrete in site. Actually, it reported failure case in lack of quality control. This study conducted experiment to apply fiber reinforced press concrete. it was evaluated on fresh property, compressive strength and shrinkage crack of press concrete with fiber.
This paper is designed to propose methods to both analyze and control the reasons for cracks appearing during the construction of piers. For this aim, a numerical analysis was performed to identify the properties of crack which resulted from heat of hydration and differential drying shrinkage with the key influence factors considered. The results show that the thermal cracks occurred within a few days, and the drying shrinkage cracks within a few weeks. Meanwhile, settlement shrinkage cracks occurred within a few hours. Discussing the control methods based on the time of the cracks appearing, quality control, reduction of the unit quantity of cement, and the preservation of moisture on the surface are proposed as the realistic and effective methods for preventing settlement cracks, thermal cracks, and drying shrinkage cracks respectively.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the linear sintering behavior of presintered zirconia blocks of various densities. The mechanical properties of the resulting sintered zirconia blocks were then analyzed. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three experimental groups of dental zirconia blocks, with a different presintering density each, were designed in the present study. Kavo $Everest^{(R)}$ ZS blanks (Kavo, Biberach, Germany) were used as a control group. The experimental group blocks were fabricated from commercial yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia powder (KZ-3YF (SD) Type A, KCM. Corporation, Nagoya, Japan). The biaxial flexural strengths, microhardnesses, and microstructures of the sintered blocks were then investigated. The linear sintering shrinkages of blocks were calculated and compared. RESULTS. Despite their different presintered densities, the sintered blocks of the control and experimental groups showed similar mechanical properties. However, the sintered block had different linear sintering shrinkage rate depending on the density of the presintered block. As the density of the presintered block increased, the linear sintering shrinkage decreased. In the experimental blocks, the three sectioned pieces of each block showed the different linear shrinkage depending on the area. The tops of the experimental blocks showed the lowest linear sintering shrinkage, whereas the bottoms of the experimental blocks showed the highest linear sintering shrinkage. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this study, the density difference of the presintered zirconia block did not affect the mechanical properties of the sintered zirconia block, but affected the linear sintering shrinkage of the zirconia block.

This research was conducted length variation test for analyze the characteristics of shrinkage of concrete pavement along with changes of respective kinds of fibers. As a result, fiber-reinforced concrete has showed tendency that of enhanced performance compared to Plain in every kinds of shrinkage resistance performance especially on drying shrinkage. For the case of using domestic polypropylene fiber, a drying shrinkage has resulted in about 75% decrease compared to Plain.
Purpose: This study compares how accurately the specimen produced by the machining method and the rapid prototyping method is produced and how much dimensional error occurs with the finished casting body, and presents the results as experimental comparative data. Methods: Specimens produced using a digital processing method were cast by a conventional dental casting process, and dimensional changes of the finished casting body were measured to compare shrinkage and expansion. Results: In the control group that did not artificially induce large swelling, the dimensional error was the smallest, and the shrinkage and expansion reactions cannot be elimainated in all processes. Conclusion: The shrinkage and expansion depend on the given conditions, so if there is a change in the traditional dental casting process, it is necessary to adjust all the parameters to obtain an accurate casting body.
Restraint to drying shrinkage is the most common cause of concrete cracking. In many applications, drying shrinkage cracks are inevitable. In this paper, the surface cracks of soil concrete caused by drying shrinkage were considered to become an one of concrete textures. So, laboratory shrinkage tests were conducted and the results were applied to the field applications. The study results were summarized as follows; First, the use of vinyl sheets and concrete polymers helped to control the concrete cracking. Second, crack propagation usually started at the interfaces of soil concrete slabs and the cracks grew to the inner slabs. Third, surface cracks of soil concrete slabs could be an one of good concrete textures
