The shock wave diffracted behind a finite wedge is partially scattered after interacting with a starting vortex originated from the sharp vertex of the wedge. The shock is divided into the accelerated and decelerated shocks. The decelerated shock then interacts with the small vortexlets brought about by the vortex instability, producing weak compression waves. The shock-shock interaction produces Mach stems. Through this successive process, the shock attenuated. In this study, these complicated shock phenomena are computed using Euler equations and compared with experimental results obtained by the authors.
A numerical study is conducted to investigate the periodically unstable shock induced combustion around blunt bodies in stoichiometric hydrogen-air mixtures. Euler equations are spatially discretized by upwind-biased third order scheme and temporally integrated by Runge-Kutta method. Chemistry model used in this study involves 8 elementary kinetics steps and 7 species. At a constant Mach number, the effects of projectile size, inflow pressure and inflow temperature are examined with Lehr#s experimental condition as a reference. In addition to oscillation frequency, characteristic distances and time averaged values are found from the result to find an relation with dimensionless parameters. As a result, it is found that the effects of inflow pressure and body size are very similar and $Damk{\ddot{o}}hler$ number plays an important role in determining the instability characteristics.

Purpose: Treatment and prognosis in patients with pelvic bone fracture depend on the characteristics of the fracture and the stability of the pelvic ring. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of and the relationships between fracture patterns, injury mechanisms, clinical courses, and prognoses according to the hemodynamic pattern. Methods: Between January 2004 and September 2006, 89 patients under diagnosis of pelvic bone fracture were retrospectively analyzed on the basis of medical records and radiologic examinations. Patients with confirmed hemorragic shock with a systolic pressure of less than 90 mmHg were defined as the shock group. Young's classification was used to characterize fracture patterns. Factors relating to the clinical manifestation and to treatments such as transfusion and surgery were analytically compared. Results: The mean age of the patients was $48.8{\pm}18.7$, among which 49 (55.1%) were male. The numbers of shock and non-shock patients were 35 (39.3%) and 54 (60.7%) respectively. Eighteen (51.4%) of the shock patient had injuries resulting from pedestrian accidents (p=0.008). According to Young's classification, lateral impact fractures amounted to 20 and 33, front-rear impact fractures to 9 and 20, and multiple fractures to 6 and 1 among the shock and non-shock patients, respectively (p=0.027). Thirty-nine (39) cases in non-shock injuries were conservatively managed while 18 cases in shock injuries were surgically treated. In the shock group, the liver and the kidney were often damaged, as well. Among the shock patients, the average admission period was $7.5{\pm}8.7days$ in intensive care and $55.1{\pm}47.9days$ in total, which were longer than the corresponding numbers of days for the non-shock patients (p<0.05). No deaths occurred in the non-shock group while 5 deaths (14.2%) occurred in the shock group (p=0.007). Conclusion: The factors affecting hemodynamic instability in patients with pelvic bone fracture are injury mechanism, classification of fracture, and associated injuries.
As a companion to an adiabatic version developed by Ryu and his coworkers, we have built an isothermal magnetohydrodynamic code for astrophysical flows. It is suited for the dynamical simulations of flows where cooling timescale is much shorter than dynamical timescale, as well as for turbulence and dynamo simulations in which detailed energetics are unimportant. Since a simple isothermal equation of state substitutes the energy conservation equation, the numerical schemes for isothermal flows are simpler (no contact discontinuity) than those for adiabatic flows and the resulting code is faster. Tests for shock tubes and Alfven wave decay have shown that our isothermal code has not only a good shock capturing ability, but also numerical dissipation smaller than its adiabatic analogue. As a real astrophysical application of the code, we have simulated the nonlinear three-dimensional evolution of the Parker instability. A factor of two enhancement in vertical column density has been achieved at most, and the main structures formed are sheet-like and aligned with the mean field direction. We conclude that the Parker instability alone is not a viable formation mechanism of the giant molecular clouds.

This study compares various ways of calculating flows for the problems with the presence of shock waves by first-order schemes and higher-order DG method on the tests from the Quirk list, namely: Quirk's problem and its modifications, shock wave diffraction at a 90 degree corner, the problem of double Mach reflection. It is shown that the use of HLLC and Godunov's numerical schemes flows in calculations can lead to instability, the Rusanov-Lax-Friedrichs scheme flow can lead to high dissipation of the solution. The most universal in heavy production calculations are hybrid schemes flows, which allow the suppression of the development of instability and conserve the accuracy of the method.

Numerical stability is studied based on numerics and mathematics. It is frequently observed in the region where velocity is zero. In that region, the Euler equation have numerous solutions and, thus, it is impossible to determine a unique solution with only governing equations. However, a unique solution can be determined by additional outer flow conditions or outer numerical discontinuity calculation since the information or a unique solution under undisturbed conditions is lost by disturbances. In this reason, the numerical scheme comsistent with Euler equations cannot remove shock instability completely.

Theoretical literature agrees on the interaction between financial instability and economic activity but explains it's dynamic in two points of view: one is that the transmission mechanism occurs in one unique regime and the other reckons a shift of regime leads to the alteration of the transmission mechanism. This study aims to find evidence of the multi-regime transmission for ASEAN developing countries. The author employs the technique of Threshold vector auto regression using the financial stress index standing for financial instability. Monthly data is collected, covering a period long enough with many episodes of high stress in recent decades. There are two conclusions: (1) A financial shock has a negative and stronger impact on economic activity during a high-stress period than it does during a low-stress period; (2) the response of economic activity to a negative financial shock during high-stress periods is stronger than it is during normal times. The findings point to the importance of the financial stress index as an additional early warning indicator for the real economy sector, as well as the positive effect that a reduction in financial stress may have on economic activity, implying the importance of "unconventional" monetary policy in times of high financial stress.
Shocks are evolved when the relativistic jets in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), black hole binaries, supernova remnants (SNR) and gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) interact with the surrounding medium. The high energy particles are believed to be accelerated by the diffusive shock acceleration and the strong magnetic field is generated by Weibel instability in the shock. When ultrarelativistic electrons with strong magnetic field cool by the synchrotron emission, the radiation is observed in gamma-ray burst and the near-equipartitioned magnetic field in the external shock delays the afterglow emission. In this paper, we performed the 3D particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations to understand the characteristics of these relativistic shock and particle acceleration. Forward and reverse shocks are shaped while the unmagnetized injecting jet interacts with the unmagnetized ambient medium. Both upstream and downstream become thermalized and the particle accelerations are shown in each transition region of the shock structures.

A numerical analysis is performed using two dimensional axisymmetric RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations system on the transition sequence of the Integrated Rocket Ramjet and the unsteady reacting flow-field in a ramjet combustor during unstable combustion. The mode transition of an axisymmetric ramjet is numerically simulated starting from the initial condition of the boost end phase of the entire ramjet. The unsteady reacting flow-field within combustor is computed for varying injection area. In calculation results of the transition, the terminal normal shock is occurred at the downstream of diffuser throat section and no notable combustor pressure oscillation is observed after certain time of the inlet port cover open. For the case of a small injection area at the same equivalence ratio, periodic pressure oscillation in the combustor leads to the terminal shock expulsion from the inlet and hence the buzz instability occurred.
