  • Solar reforming of methane with $CO_2$ was successfully tested with a direct irradiated absorber on a parabolic dish capable of $5kW_{th}$ solar power. The new type of catalytically activated metallic foam absorber was prepared, and its activity was tested. Ni was applied as the active metal on the gamma - alumina coated Ni metal foam for the preparation of the catalytically-activated metal foam layer. Compared to conventional direct irradiation of the catalytically-activated ceramic foam absorber, this new metallic foam absorber is found to exhibit a superior reaction performance at the relatively low insolation or at low temperatures. In addition, unlike direct irradiation of the catalytically-activated ceramic foam absorber, metallic foam absorber has better thermal resistance, which prevents the emergence of cracks caused by mechanical or thermal shock. The total solar power absorbed reached up to 2.1kW and the maximum $CH_4$ conversion was almost 40%.

  • In this study, Shock Absorption performance of Magneto-rheological elastomer(MRE) is identified through the drop impact test. Magneto-rheological materials are divided into two groups by MR fluid in fluid state and MR elastomer in solid state like rubber. The stiffness characteristics of Magneto-rheological material can be changed as magnetic field is applied. The impact loads in MR elastomer were measured under weight of impactor. Experiment results are shown through the experiments to confirm the effect of shock absorption of MR elastomer. Thus, the MR elastomer can be applied to shock absorber used in area that shock occurs.

  • Shock absorber의 부품인 피스톤을 설계하기 위하여 저속용 피스톤에 가해지는 오일의 속도분포와 정압분포의 특성을 파악하였다. 오리피스를 통과하는 압축속도는 0.0156~0.0642 m/s를 나타났으며, 0.9 mm인 orifice의 속도분포와 정압분포 속도벡터는 속도가 클수록 회전하려는 경향이 커졌다. 0.8 mm인 orifice의 속도분포와 정압분포 속도벡터는 2차적으로 속도가 변하였고 두 번째 압력강하가 발생하였으며, orifice 근처 유선의 분포는 orifice 중심을 기준으로 와류가 발생하였다. 압축실에서 인장실로 통과하는 속도분포는 직경이 작은 orifice에서 속도가 크게 나타났으며, 압축실과 인장실의 압력차가 크면 클수록 피스톤에 작용하는 힘이 크게 나타났다.

  • Various research to reduce weight of a car is achieving. This research is tendencious to manufacture solid piston rod of shock absorber as hollow piston rod using friction welding. This study deals with the friction welding of SM45C to SM45C-Pipe that is used in car shock absorber, The friction time was variable conditions under the conditions of spindle revolution of 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 55MPa, upset pressure of 75MPa, and upset time of 2.0seconds. Under these conditions, the microstructure of weld interface, tensile fracture surface and mechanical tests were studied of friction weld, and so the results were as follows. 1. In tensile strength, the hole processing is better than non-hole processing. 2. When the friction time was 1.5seconds under the conditions, the maximum tensile strength of the friction weld happened to be 869MPa, which is 103% of SM45C's tensile strength and 91% of SM45C's Pipe. 3. When the friction time was 2.0seconds under the conditions, the maximum bending strength of the friction weld happened to be 1599MPa, which is 80% of SM45C's bending strength and 118% of SM45C's Pipe.

One of these researches is tendencious to manufacture the hollow piston rod using friction welding instead of solid one of the vehicle shock absorber. This study deals with the friction welding of SM45C to SM20C-pipe that is used normally in the vehicle shock absorber. The friction time was variable conditions under the conditions of spindle revolution of 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 55MPa, upset pressure of 75MPa, and upset time of 2.0seconds. Under these conditions, the microstructure of weld interface, tensile fracture surface and mechanical tests of friction weld were studied and so the results were as follows. When the friction time was l.5seconds under the conditions, the maximum tensile strength of the friction weld happened to be 837MPa, which is 113% of SM20C's tensile strength and 97% of SM45C's. The optimal welding conditions were n=2,000rpm, $P_1=55MPa$, $P_2=75MPa$, $t_1=1.5sec$, $t_2=2.0sec$ when the total upset length is 1.7mm.

  • This paper presents optimal design of controllable magnetorheological (MR) shock absorbers for passenger vehicle. In order to achieve this goal, two MR shock absorbers (one for front suspension; one for rear suspension) are designed using an optimization methodology based on design specifications for a commercial passenger vehicle. The optimization problem is to find optimal geometric dimensions of the magnetic circuits for the front and rear MR shock absorbers in order to improve the performance such as damping force as an objective function. The first order optimization method using commercial finite element method (FEM) software is adopted for the constrained optimization algorithm. After manufacturing the MR shock absorbers with optimally obtained design parameters, their field-dependent damping forces are experimentally evaluated and compared with those of conventional shock absorbers. In addition, vibration control performances of the full-vehicle installed with the proposed MR shock absorbers are evaluated under bump road condition and obstacle avoidance test.

탄소나노튜브를 기반으로 하는 충격흡수제의 물리적 특성 비교분석 (The Comparative Analysis on Mechanical Property Test of Carbon Nanotube-based Shock Absorbers)

  • The purpose of this study was (a) to develop carbon nanotube-based shock absorbers for reducing potentially harmful impact forces and excessive foot pronation, and (b) to briefly determine how the effects of carbon nanotube-based shock absorbers on biomechanical variance during drop landing. A university student(age: 24.0 yrs, height: 176.2 cm, weight: 679.5 N) who has no musculoskeletal disorder was recruited as the subject. Hardness, specific gravity, tensile strength, elongation, 100% modulus, tear strength, split tear strength, compression set, resilience, vertical GRF, and loading rate were determined for each material. For each dependent variable, a descriptive statistics was used for different conditions. The property test results showed that tensile strength, tear strength, split tear strength, compression set, and resilience in carbon nanotube-based shock absorbers were greater than general Ethylene Vinyl Acetate(EVA). These indicated that resistance against variable strength in developed carbon nanotube-based shock absorbers were greater than general EVA. In vertical GRF of CNTC was less than those of EVA during drop landing and loading rate of CNTC was greater than EVA. It seems that the use of CNT can be a effective way of reducing and controlling shock from impact.
