In this study, low fatigue behavior of laser welded sheet metal were investigated. Before welding, the cross section of butt joint was prepared only by fine shearing without milling process. Specimens were same sheet metal and welding condition that using automobile manufacturing company at present. Butt joint of cold rolled sheet metal was welded by $CO_2$ laser. It is used that welding condition such as laser welding speed was 5.5m/sec and laser output power was 5kW for 0.8mm and 1.2mm sheet metal. The laser weldments were machined same or different thickness and same or different material. In order to mechanical properties of around welding zone, hardness test was performed. Hardness of welding bead is about 2 times greater than base material. We performed the low cycle fatigue tests for obtaining fatigue properties about thickness and the weld line direction of specimen. The results of strain controlled low cycle fatigue test indicate that all specimens occur cyclic softening, as indicated by the decrease in stress to reach a prescribed strain.
In this paper an approach was described for determination of direction of sliding block in rock slopes containing planar non-persistent open joints. For this study, several gypsum blocks containing planar non-persistent open joints with dimensions of $15{\times}15{\times}15cm$ were build. The rock bridges occupy 45, 90 and $135cm^2$ of total shear surface ($225cm^2$), and their configuration in shear plane were different. From each model, two similar blocks were prepared and were subjected to shearing under normal stresses of 3.33 and $7.77kg/cm^{-2}$. Based on the change in the configuration of rock-bridges, a factor called the Effective Joint Coefficient (EJC) was formulated, that is the ratio of the effective joint surface that is in front of the rock-bridge and the total shear surface. In general, the failure pattern is influenced by the EJC while shear strength is closely related to the failure pattern. It is observed that the propagation of wing tensile cracks or shear cracks depends on the EJC and the coalescence of wing cracks or shear cracks dominates the eventual failure pattern and determines the peak shear load of the rock specimens. So the EJC is a key factor to determine the sliding direction in rock slopes containing planar non-persistent open joints.
Microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) is an innovative soil improvement approach utilizing metabolic activity of microbes to hydrolyze urea. In this paper, the shear response and the erodibility of MICP-treated sand under axial compression and submerged impinging jet were evaluated at a low confining stress range. Loose, poorly graded silica sand was used in testing. Specimens were cemented at low confining stresses until target shear wave velocities were achieved. Results indicated that the erodibility parameters of cemented specimens showed an increase in the critical shear stress by up to three orders of magnitude, while the erodibility coefficient decreased by up to four orders of magnitude. Such a trend was observed to be dependent on the level of cementation. The treated sand showed dilative behavior while the untreated sands showed contractive behavior. The shear modulus as a function of strain level, based on monitored shear wave velocity, indicated mineral debonding may commence at 0.05% axial strain. The peak strength was enhanced in terms of emerging cohesion parameter based on utilizing the Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria.

The mechanical behaviors of the prefabricated steel-concrete composite beams are usually affected by the strength and the number of shear studs. Furthermore, the discrete degree of the arrangement for shear stud clusters, being defined as the clustering degree of shear stud λ in this paper, is an important factor for the mechanical properties of composite beams, even if the shear connection degree is unchanged. This paper uses an experimental and calculation method to investigate the influence of λ on the mechanical behavior of the composite beam. Five specimens (with different λ but having the same shear connection degree) of prefabricated composite beams are designed to study the ultimate supporting capacity, deformation, slip and shearing stiffness of composite beams. Experimental results are compared with the conventional slip calculation method (based on the influence of λ) of prefabricated composite beams. The results showed that the stiffness in the elastoplastic stage is reduced when λ is greater than 0.333, while the supporting capacity of beams has little affected by the change in λ. The slip distribution along the beam length tends to be zig-zagged due to the clustering of studs, and the slip difference increases with the increase of λ.
Understanding the frictional properties of rock discontinuities is crucial to ensure the stability of underground structures. In particular, the frictional behavior at depth depends on the complex interaction among mechanical, hydraulic, thermal and chemical characteristics and their coupled effects. In this study, a series of shear tests were carried out in a triaxial compression chamber to investigate the shearing behavior of saw-cut granite surface and rough shear surface of synthetic rocks. The test results were analyzed using Coulomb's shear strength criterion. The frictional behavior of saw-cut granite surface showed little variation at different confining, water pressures and temperature conditions, however in case of synthetic rocks, the frictional behavior showed different trend depending on normal stress level. In addition, the variation of stiffness and dilation at different testing conditions were analyzed, and the stiffness and dilation showed little variation at different water pressures and temperature conditions.
Direct shear tests are perfromed for artifical joint models made of cement with 25 types of different strength and roughness. The tests consist of the multi-stage test which is a common test method for a single joint plane and the test method suggested by ISRM. Then, not only the differences of friction angles between the two test methods are compared, but is the effectiveness of the multi-stage test investigated. The average of friction angles measured from the multi-stage test is $6.4^{\circ}$ lower than that from the ISRM test. Although the strength and roughness of samples vary, the differences of friction angles between the two test methods are constant. The relationship between the shear stress and the normal stress measured from the multi-stage test is well correlate with the Patton's equation. Whereas, the Barton's equation is best fitted with those measured from ISRM test.
Aiming at the mechanical and structural characteristics of the contact zone composite rock, the shear tests and numerical studies were carried out. The effects of the differences in mechanical properties of different materials and the normal stress on shear properties of contact zone composite samples were analyzed from a macro-meso level. The results show that the composite samples have high shear strength, and the interface of different materials has strong adhesion. The differences in mechanical properties of materials weakens the shear strength and increase the shear brittleness of the sample, while normal stress will inhibit these effect. Under low/high normal stress, the sample show two failure modes, at the meso-damage level: elastic-shearing-frictional sliding and elastic-extrusion wear. This is mainly controlled by the contact and friction state of the material after damage. The secondary failure of undulating structure under normal-shear stress is the nature of extrusion wear, which is positively correlated to the normal stress and the degree of difference in mechanical properties of different materials. The increase of the mechanical difference of the sample will enhance the shear brittleness under lower normal stress and the shear interaction under higher normal stress.
Objective: To study and compare the effects of different demineralization-inhibition methods on the shear bond strength (SBS) and fracture mode of an adhesive used to bond orthodontic brackets to demineralized enamel surfaces. Methods: Eighty freshly extracted, human maxillary premolars were divided into 4 equal groups and demineralized over the course of 21 days. Brackets were bonded to the demineralized enamel of teeth in Group 1. In Group 2, bonding was performed following resin infiltration ($ICON^{(R)}$, DMG, Hamburg, Germany). Before bonding, pre-treatment with acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) or solutions containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate with 2% neutral sodium fluoride (CPP-ACP/wF) was performed in Groups 3 and 4, respectively. The SBS values of the brackets were measured and recorded following mechanical shearing of the bracket from the tooth surface. The adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores were determined aft er the brackets failed. Statistical comparisons were performed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey's post-tests, and G-tests. Results: Significant differences were found in some of the intergroup comparisons of the SBS values (F = 39.287, p < 0.001). No significant differences were found between the values for the APF-gel and control groups, whereas significantly higher SBS values were recorded for the resin-infiltrated and CPP-ACP/wF-treated groups. The ARI scores were also significantly different among the 4 groups (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Tooth surfaces exposed to resin infiltration and CPP-ACP/wF application showed higher debonding forces than the untreated, demineralized surfaces.

As the result of implementing a treated material test and durability test after quickly drying S.P.F. species, a type of softwood structural material, within a short period time, soaking it in liquid phosphate flame proof agent for an hour, microwave heating it, and compressing it from 3.8cm to 1cm, when setting the appropriate heating time of microwave heating at 7 minutes at 5kW, it is observed that it satisfies the target water content (4~5%). It is shown that in a water content measurement of the wood that is compressed after being softened by soaking in the flame proof agent, drying and heating at 3kW for 9 minutes, all specimens satisfied 12~14%, the appropriate water content for exterior wood. Also, it is shown that in terms of the flame performance obtained through a flame resistance treatment of the compressed wood and a treated material test, the specimen soaked in flame proof agent for 30 minutes was the most excellent, and that the performance test result of the compressed wood in all areas, such as nail withdrawal resistance, compression, bending strength, and shearing strength, were all improved in their mechanical features to twice to three times better performances.
In situ clay soils with Ko condition have anisotropic characteristics, varying the response according to the principal stress direction upon loading. But because of their practicality and simplicity, consolidated isotropic undrained compression tests are commonly used in practice to determine the behavior of cohesive soils. In this study to investigate the anisotropic characteristics and the effects of consolidation stress states on the response of normally consolidated clay soils during shearing, triaxial compression and extension tests after consolidating the undisturbed clay soil samples, which are obtained as a block sample to normalized consolidation states under isotropic or Ko state, were carried out. As a result of tests, the anisotropy of the undrained strength was confirmed. Comparing the soil responses between isotropic and Ko consolidation, the undrained strength by isotropic consolidation is overestimated because of its higher mean consolidation pressure. And isotropic consolidation reduces the anisotropy of soil response and influences on the stress-strain behavior and pore pressure response because the animotropic soil structure is partially collapsed during isotropic consolidation process. Also, OCR in overconsolidated soils is decreased by isotropic consolidatiorL Friction angle in eztension is higher than that in compression, but regression analysis shows that friction angle with cohesion in extension is almost the same as that without cohesion in compresslon.
