Two way grid single-layer domes are of great advantage in fabrication and construction because of the simple fact that they have only four members at each junction. But, from a point of view of mechanics, the rectangular latticed pattern gives rise to a nonuniform rigidity-distribution in the circumferential direction. If the equivalent rigidity is considered in the axial direction of members, the in-plane equivalent shearing rigidity depends only on the in-plane bending rigidity of members and its value is very small in comparison to that of the in-plane equivalent stretching rigidity. It has a tendency to decrease buckling -strength of dome considerably by external force. But it is possible to increase buckling strength by the use of roofing covering materials connected to framework. In a case like this, shearing rigidity of roofing material increases buckling strength of the overall structure and can be designed economically from the viewpoint of practice. Therefore, the purpose of this paper, in Lamella dome and rectangular latticed dome that are a set of 2-way grid dome, is to clarify the effects of roofing covering materials for increasing of buckling strength of overall dome. Analysis method is based on FEM dealing with the geometrically nonlinear deflection problems. The conclusion were given as follows: 1. In case of Lamella domes which have nearly equal rigidity in the direction of circumference, the rigidity of roofing covering materials does not have a great influence on buckling-strength, but in rectangular latticed domes that has a clear periodicity of rigidity, the value of its buckling strength has a tendency to increase considerably with increasing rigidity of roofing covering materials 2. In case of rectangular latticed domes, as rise-span-ratio increases, models which is subjected to pressure -type-uniform loading than vertical-type-uniform loading are higher in the aspects of the increasing rate of buckling- strength according to the rate of shear reinforcement rigidity, but in case of Lamella dome, the condition of loading and rise-span-ratio do not have a great influence on the increasing rate of buckling strength according to the rate of shear reinforcement rigidity.
The present paper summarizes the experimental research carried out at the "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania, with the scope of investigating the influence of different column web stiffening solutions on the performance of beam-to-column joints of Moment Resisting Steel Frames. The response parameters, such as resistance, rigidity and ductility were examined. Five different types of panel web stiffening were compared with regard to a reference test. A quasi-linear relationship between the moment capacity and the total shear area of the web panel was observed from the experimental tests while the initial rigidity increased non-proportionally with the same area. Comparisons are presented of the experimental tests with the mathematical model developed by Krawinkler and with the model stipulated in Eurocode 3 Part 1.8. These comparisons showed a generally good agreement in the case of moment capacity, while the computed rigidities were always greater than the experimental rigidities.
The recently introduced index Ratio Of Torsion (ROT) quantifies the base shear amplification due to torsional effects on shear cantilever types of building structures. In this work, a theoretical proof based on the theory of elasticity is provided, depicting that the ratio of torsion (ROT) is independent of the forces acting on the structure, although its definition stems from the shear forces. This is a particular attribute of other design and evaluation criteria against torsion such as center of rigidity and center of strength. In the case of ROT, this evidence could be considered as inconsistent, as ROT is a function solely of the forces acting on structural members, nevertheless it is proven to be independent of them. As ROT is the amplification of the shear forces due to in-plan irregularities, this work depicts that this increase of internal shear forces rely only on the structural topology. Moreover, a numerical verification of this theoretical finding was accomplished, using linear statistics interpretation and nonlinear neural networks simulation for an adequate database of structures.
This paper investigated stretchability with fabric mechanical properties of one-way and two-way stretch fabrics. For this purpose, 1-way and 2-way woven fabrics were prepared using 150d PET/spandex covered yarns with different thermal treatment according to 4 kinds of wet thermal machines subsequently, fabric mechanical properties were measured and compared with regular PET fabrics. In addition, the garment formability of stretch fabrics was predicted and compared to regular fabrics according to wet thermal treatment. The weft stretchability of 2-way stretch fabric was about 10% higher than the 1-way stretch fabric. The compressibility of the stretch fabrics was 1.5 times higher than regular fabrics. The compressibility of stretch fabrics treated with CPB and rope type wet thermal machine showed higher values than other types of wet thermal machines. The bending rigidity of 2-way stretch fabric was lower than 1-way stretch fabric. Shear rigidity of 2-way stretch fabric was higher than 1-way and regular fabrics. Garment formability of 2-way stretch fabric was higher than regular and one-way stretch fabrics. Garment formability of 2-way stretch fabrics treated with wet thermal conditions under low tension showed the highest values.
The aim of this work is to develop sense-differentiated textiles using Thick-Thin polyester yarn(T-T yarn) with finer than 1 denier mono filament. The ITY(Interlace Textured Yarn) using T-T yarn with various over feed ratios of PET filament was manufactured with different shrinking percentage of core yarn and then the fabrics were woven on the same weaving 100m using ITY produced. The mechanical properties and the handles of the fabrics were examined with KES-FB system suggested by Kawabata. The shrinkage of ITY was increased with decreasing over feed ratio and increased with increasing heat treatment temperature of T-T yarn. The initial elasticity modulus of ITY was decreased with increasing over feed ratio and heat treatment temperature of T-T yarn. The tensile energy of fabrics was decreased with increasing of over feed ratio, but bending rigidity and shear rigidity of fabrics were increased with increasing of over feed ratio of PET filament. The results indicate that the fabric using T-T yarn with finer than I denier mono filament can be used for the purpose of sense-differentiated textile.
Rubber isolator has many advantages compared with steel spring mount. Rubber has high internal damping and can be formed various shape depending on specific purpose. On the contrary, low modulus of elasticity of rubber results the instability of rubber isolator by buckling phenomenon. This paper presents the development of shear type rubber isolator for industrial application by using shear rigidity property of rubber. The static load-deflection characteristics of developed isolator has been analyzed by the FEM. Consequently, the static load testing and a measure of the effectiveness of a vibration isolator in terms of force transissibility for developed isolator have been carried out.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of dyeing on the mechanical properties, primary hand, total hand value (THV), and total appearance value (TAV) of woven fabrics. Cotton, PET, nylon, cotton/PET, and cotton/nylon woven fabrics were used as test specimens. Each of fabric was dyed under the same conditions as the fabrics for sportswear which consumers have selected as best. Mechanical properties of specimens were measured by KES-FB system and primary hand and THV were calculated by equation KN -201-MDY and KN-301-WINTER respectively. TAV was calculated by KN (eq. 10). The results were as follows: 1. In mechanical properties. tensile energy increased when cotton and two cotton mixture fabrics were dyed and decreased when polyester and nylon fabrics were dyed. Bending rigidity and shear rigidity decreased after all fabrics were dyed except nylon and cotton/ nylon mixture fabrics showing higher rigidities. Cotton fabrics showed higher surface roughness while other fabrics did lower values after dyeing. 2. In evaluation of primary hand and total hand , four primary hands of cotton fabrics so decreased after dyeing that THV were lowered. Numeri, Fukurami, and Sofutosa in primary hand of polyester, cotton/polyester, and cotton/nylon fabrics and Koshi and Numeri of nylon fabrics increased after dyeing and therefore THV of four fabrics were improved. 3. Cotton and polyester fabrics showed higher TAV due to their lower bending and shear rigidity, while nylon and cotton/nylon fabrics did lower values due to their higher shear rigidity. 4. It was proposed that the method of dyeing or treatment for minimizing the decrease of THV of cotton fabrics and TAV of nylon fabrics should be developed.
The physical properties and biodegradability of cellulose fabrics, such as cotton and rayon, are expected to vary with textile care. In this study cotton and rayon fabrics were washed repeatedly with detergents, bleaches, or softeners. The changes of physical properties were investigated by measuring retention of breaking strength, shrinkage, handle, and the fiber surface was observed by SEM. The biodegradability of fabrics was also estimated by soil burial test. The results were as follows. Cotton fabrics laundered repeatedly by detergents and bleaches lost virtually no strength. The breaking strength of the rayon fabrics decreased by about 17%∼25% after repeated launderings. Shrinkage in weft direction was much larger than that in warp direction. Bending rigidities of both fabrics decreased remarkably within 10 wash cycles. Shear rigidity in cotton fabrics increased continuously with repeated washing cycles, however, that in rayon fabrics did not show any change as washing went on. Friction coefficient increased in both fabrics after 10 wash cycles, and this is thought to be attributed to the wrinkle, interlocking of hairs, surface damage resulted from repeated washings. In cotton fabrics made of staple yarns, short hairs on the yarn surface entangled together with repeated launderings. This resulted in the continuous increase in % shrinkage, shear rigidity, friction coefficient. Rayon fabrics made of filament yarns, however, did not show this phenomenon. Softener treated fabrics showed the lowest values in bending rigidity, shear rigidity and friction coefficient because the cationic surfactants adsorbed on the fiber surface behaved like lubricants. The biodegradability of fabrics was noticeably affected by the composition of washing solutions. The fabrics washed with detergents and bleaches were decomposed faster than those washed with the others were and the cotton fabrics washed with detergents and softeners hardly degraded. The fabrics soiled with milk were decomposed almost completely and those soiled with Palmitic acid did not degrade greatly.
Experimental study is performed to investigate the variation of shear strength of reinforced concrete beams according to design parameters. The major parameters are loading condition, shear span-to-depth ratio, ratio of tensile longitudinal reinforcement, prestress and boundary rigidity.14 reinforced concrete beams without web reinforcement are tested under monotonic downward loading. The shear strength of the tested specimens were compared with the prediction by design code and Choi's method.
