In this study, the drag forces on a submerged square cylinder were analyzed using a three dimensional hydrodynamic model. The numerical results were compared with the experimental results to check the reliability of the numerical simulations, and the characteristics of the drag forces with the relative depths were analyzed by analyzing the pressure acting on the cylinder surface, which are normally difficult to measure experimentally. The numerical results showed that the drag forces acting on a submerged square cylinder originate mainly from the pressure forces, and component of the shear forces decreased with increasing relative depth. The pressure coefficient distributions showed that in the case of a low relative depth, a relatively high pressure was formed in the front of a cylinder, and a relatively low pressure was formed in the rear, which gives a high drag coefficient. In a high relative depth, the pressure in the front decreased and pressure in the rear increased, which is a similar phenomenon to that normally observed in two dimensional square cylinder flow. The effect of the static pressure was analyzed and the surface elevation difference between the front and rear zone of a cylinder has a limited effect on the drag forces. Finally, the numerical results showed that the drag forces acting on a submerged square are dominated by the dynamic pressure formed by three dimensional flow and the distribution of local surface elevation.

Ultrasonic Vibrator is designed to achieve the maximum vibration amplitude at 30 kHz by in-cluding a horn (diameter, 40 mm), mechanical vibration amplifier at the top of the ultrasonic vibrator in the system and making the complete system resonate. In addition, it is experimentally visualized by particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) that the acoustic streaming velocity in the gap is at maximum when the gap between the ultrasonic vibrator and stationary plate agrees with the multiples of half-wavelength of the ultrasonic wave. This fact results from the resonance of the sound wave and the theoretical analysis of that is also accomplished and verified by experiment. It is observed that the magnitude of the acoustic streaming dependent upon the gap between the ultrasonic vibrator and stationary plate possibly changes due to the measurement of the average velocity fields of the acoustic streaming induced by the ultrasonic vibration at resonance and non-resonance. There exists extremely small average velocity at non-resonant gaps while the relatively large average velocity exists at resonant gaps compared with non-resonant gaps. It also reveals that there should be larger axial turbulent intensity at the hub region of the vibrator and at the edge of it in the resonant gap where the air streaming velocity is maximized and the flow phenomena is conspicuous than that at the other region. Because the variation of the acoustic streaming velocity at resonant gap is more distinctive than that at non-resonant gap, shear stress increases more in the resonant gap and is also maximized at the center region of the vibrator except the local position of center (r〓0). At the non-resonant gap there should be low values of vorticity distribution, but in contrast to the non-resonant gap, high and negative values of it exist at the center region of the vibrator with respect to the radial direction and in the vicinity of the middle region with respect to the axial direction. Acoustic streaming is noise-free due to the ultrasonic vibration and maintenance-free because of the absence of moving parts. Moreover, the proposed method by acoustic streaming can be utilized to the nano and micro-electro mechanical systems as a driving mechanism in addition to the augmentation of the streaming velocity.
As a preliminary study to establish fracture network model in crystalline rocks, detail investigation on fracture characteristics were performed. Five fracture sets were determined on the basis of regional survey of geological structures and fractures on outcrops. Among the fracture sets, S1 set has the highest density and longest trace length of fractures which was identified on surface in the study area. S4 and S5 sets are composed of foliations and foliation parallel shear joints of gneisses, which are very important sets at the aspect of weighting of fracture length. For characterization of subsurface fractures, detail core logging was performed to identify fractures and fracture zones from five boreholes. Acoustic televiewer logging and borehole geophysical loggings produced images, orientations and geophysical properties of fractures which intersect with boreholes. According to the result of the investigations, subsurface fractures can be grouped as three preferred orientations(B1, B2 and B3), which correspond to S1, S2 and S4/S5 of surface fracture sets, respectively. Actually, B1 set is expected to be intensely developed at subsurface. However, it has low frequency of intersection with boreholes due to its parallel or sub-parallel direction to boreholes. According to the inference of conductive fractures, B1 and B3 sets have possibilities of water flow and their intersection lines are also thought to consist of important conduits of groundwater flow. In particular, faults which are parallel to foliations control major groundwater flow in the study area.
The enzymatic hydrolysate of gelatin extracted from fish skin was fractionated and recycled through the membrane reactor according to the molecular weight for the purpose of using as functional material. In addition, the enzymatic hydrolysis conditions of gelatin, enzyme stability by membrane and mechanical shear, and effect on the long-term operational stability of the recycle membrane reactor were investigated. Using the pH-drop technique, Alcalase, pronase E and collagenase were identified as the most suitable enzymes for the hydrolysis of fish skin gelatin. The optimum hydrolysis conditions in the 1st-step membrane reactor(1st-SMR) by Alcalase were enzyme concentration 0.2mg/ml, substrate-to-enzyme ratio(S/E) 50(w/w), $50^{\circ}C$, pH 8.0, reaction volume 600ml and flow rate 6.14ml/min. In the 2nd-SMR by pronase E were enzyme concentration 0.3mg/ml, S/E 33(w/w), $50^{\circ}C$, pH 8.0, reaction volume 600ml and flow rate 6.14ml/min. In the case of 3rd-SMR, enzyme concentration 0.1mg/ml, S/E 100(w/w), $37^{\circ}C$, pH 7.5, reaction volume 600ml and flow rate 10ml/min. Decreased enzyme activities by mechanical shear and membrane were 30% and 15% in the 1st-SMR, were 14% and 5% in the 2nd-SMR, and 18% and 8% in the 3rd-SMR, respectively. Under the optimum conditions, the degree of hydrolysis in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-SMR were 3.5%(Kjeldahl method, 87%), 3.1%(77%) and 2.7%(70%), respectively. The productivity of hydrolysate in the continuous three-step membrane reactor was 430mg per enzyme(mg) for 10 times of volume replacements.
Characteristics and complex structures in the northwest Nevada, U.S.A. are de-veloped due to relative tectonic movement of major tectonostratigraphic terranes. Theresearch area is composed of autochthonous rocks of both Early Triassic Koipato Group and Middle Triassic Star Peak Group, which is located in the Humboldt Range, northwest Nevada, U.S.A. The present research is focused on deformation history, related fabric development, and state of regional paleostress during the Jurassic to Late Cretaceous. The Triassic autochthonous rocks in the Humboldt Range, Nevada, U.S.A. display polyphase deformation due to E- to ESE-directed tectonic transport of the Fencemaker allochthon over autochthonous rocks of the Humboldt Range. Structures involving the Mesozoic foreland deformation are development of intense foliation, different styles of folds, minor thrusts, transposed layering, and strong mylonitization. These tectonic structures are mostly developed along the western flank of the Humboldt Range, and are reported as the first deformation of the Mesozoic foreland in the Humboldt Range, Nevada, U.S.A. Regional principal stress(${\sigma}_1$) is interpreted to be E to ESE between the Jurassic and Early Cretaceous on the basis of orientations of strongly developed $D_1$ structures. The deformation during the Middle to Late Cretaceous, is characterized by development of consistent N- to NNE-trending metamorphic quartz veins, and shear zones parallel to pre-existing $D_1$ foliation. Orientations of metamorphic quartz veins as well as other kinematic indicators are N to NNE and are interpreted as those of regional principal stress(${\sigma}_1$) during the Late Cretaceous. The sense of shear applied in the Humbololt Range is dextral and is caused by reactivation of early-formed $D_1$ structures. These results reflect counterclockwise rotation of regional principal paleostress in the Humboldt Range from the Jurassic to Late cretaceous. Finally, development of both shear band cleavage and S/C mylonitic fabrics indicates that the shear zones in the Humboldt Range reflect involvement of enhanced non-coaxial flow during bulk shortening in mylonitic formation.

This study investigated the effects of Yuza pectin extract (0, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2%, w/v) on the physicochemical, microbial, rheological, and sensory properties of yogurt. Pectin extract was extracted from Yuza peel by using citrate after juicing the flesh. The total sugar content of Yuza pectin was 89.07%. The pH of Yuza pectin extract-added yogurt was 4.43. All Yuza pectin extract-added yogurt samples showed shear-thinning flow behaviors (n=0.33~0.44). The values for apparent viscosity ($0.34{\sim}0.47Pa{\cdot}s$), consistency index ($4.48{\sim}10.25Pa{\cdot}s^n$), yield stress (6.56~17.61 Pa), storage modulus (47.96~75.21 Pa), and loss modulus (19.79~26.06 Pa) for 0.1~0.2% (w/v) Yuza pectin extract-added yogurt were considerably higher than those of the control. These result indicated that Yuza pectin extract could enhance steady and dynamic shear rheological properties of yogurt. The sensory scores of Yuza pectin extract-added yogurt were higher than those of the control.

In this study, turbulent flow and heat transfer characteristics in a helically coiled tube have been numerically investigated. Helically coiled tubes are commonly used in heat exchange systems to enhance the heat transfer rate. Accordingly, they have been widely studied experimentally; however, most studies have focused on the pressure drop and heat transfer correlations. The centrifugal force caused by a helical tube increases the wall shear stress and heat transfer rate on the outer side of the helical tube while decreasing those on the inner side of the tube. Therefore, this study quantitatively shows the variation of the local Nusselt number and friction factor along the circumference at the wall of a helical tube by varying the coil diameter and Reynolds number. It is seen that the local heat transfer rate and wall shear stress greatly decrease near the inner side of the tube, which can affect the safety of the tube materials. Moreover, this study verifies the previous experimental correlations for the friction factor and Nusselt number, and it shows that the correlation between the two in a straight tube can be applied to a helical tube. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as important data for the safety evaluation of heat exchangers and steam generators.

The thermal-hydrological-mechanical (T-H-M) behavior of rock mass surrounding a high-temperature cavern thermal energy storage (CTES) operated for a period of 30 years has been investigated by TOUGH2-FLAC3D simulator. As a fundamental study for the development of prediction and control technologies for the environmental change and rock mass behavior associated with CTES, the key concerns were focused on the hydrological-thermal multiphase flow and the consequential mechanical behavior of the surrounding rock mass, where the insulator performance was not taken into account. In the present study, we considered a large-scale cylindrical cavern at shallow depth storing thermal energy of $350^{\circ}C$. The numerical results showed that the dominant heat transfer mechanism was the conduction in rock mass, and the mechanical behavior of rock mass was influenced by thermal factor (heat) more than hydrological factor (pressure). The effective stress redistribution, displacement and surface uplift caused by heating of rock and boiling of ground-water were discussed, and the potential of shear failure was quantitatively examined. Thermal expansion of rock mass led to the ground-surface uplift on the order of a few centimeters and the development of tensile stress above the storage cavern, increasing the potential of shear failure.

Rheological properties of rehydrated suspensions of two kinds of freeze dried Kochujang powders, processed at different freezing rates, were compared with raw Kochujang using Brookfield wide-gap rotational viscometer at $25^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$. Shear rates ranged from $0.1965\;sec^{-1}$ to $1.9650\;sec^{-1}$ and solid content ranged from 47% to 56%. Rehydrated suspensions of quickly frozen Kochujang powder and slowly frozen Kochujang powder, and raw Kochujang exhibited pseudoplastic behaviors with yield stress and presented thixotropic properties which followed the second-order kinetic behavior proposed by Tiu. Suspensions of Kochujang powders exhibited considerably higher decaying rates than raw Kochujang. The dependency of the equilibrium structure parameter on the shear rate was weak, and there were no significant differences among the values of structure parameters of three samples. The temperature dependency of the apparent viscosity of Kochujang suspension was fully expressed by Arrhenius equation and activation energies of suspensions of quickly frozen Kochujang powder and slowly frozen Kochujang powder, and raw Kochujang were 2.21, 2.18, and 2.32 Kcal/g.mole respectively. Consistency indices of three samples increased with solid content and decreased with temperature. Flow behavior indices of three samples showed no considerable dependency on the temperature and solid content. There were no significant differences in the rheological properties between two Kochujang powders.

Clay bricks with lime mortar are recently popular since they are eco- and environment-friendly construction material being capable of air flow and moisture movement. However, there is little study on those of clay brick an lime mortar while relatively many researches on the structural characteristics of concrete bricks with cement mortar are available in Korea. Furthermore, the current Korean Building Code of masonry structures was established on the base of the Foreign Codes which does not reflect Korean masonry construction circumstance, such as material characteristics and section properties. To overcome these problems, experiments of masonry structures constructed using clay bricks with lime mortar were carried out to evaluate their structural characteristics such as, prism compressive strength, adhesive strength and diagonal tensile(shear) strength. Also this research compares the mechanical characteristics between clay bricks with lime mortar and concrete bricks with cement mortar to provide information that will be used for revisions of the domestic standards for masonry structures. As masonry structures constructed with clay bricks and lime mortar show different aspects over the ones constructed with concrete bricks and cement mortar, we suggest estimation equation of prism compressive strength and diagonal tensile strength on masonry structures constructed with clay bricks and lime mortar.
