CLOVES: a Virtual World Builder for Constructing Virtual Environments for Science Inquiry Learning (클로브스: 과학 탐구 학습을 위한 가상환경 저작도구)

  • This paper presents the motivation, design, and a preliminary evaluation of a virtual world builder, CLOVES. CLOVES is designed to support rapid construction of data-rich virtual environments and instruments for young children's science inquiry teaming. It provides a three-tiered programming Interface: a visual design environment, scripting layer, and low-level application programming interface targeting for multiple levels of programming expertise. It is also intended to be a collaborative medium among interdisciplinary domain experts such as educators, 3D modelers and software developers. A preliminary case study was conducted to evaluate the capabilities and effectiveness of CLOVES. The results showed that designers actively participated in decision making at every stage of the design process and shared knowledge among one another.

Head and Neck Oncologic Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic (COVID-19와 두경부암)

  • It is well established that cancer patients are more susceptible to infection because of the immunosuppressive status caused by both disease itself and anticancer treatment, including surgery and chemoradiation. Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients are generally at high-risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection and serious adverse outcomes. Although there is an urgent need for guidance in the delivery of safe, quality oncologic care, no international consented recommendation addressed the management of HNC patients in COVID-19 due to limited data. In this review, we summarized the consideration for head and neck oncologic care in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on the data and the very recent recommendations from the Korean Cancer Association and National Cancer Center. COVID-19 should be taken into consideration in the comprehensive management of HNC patients, and multidisciplinary evaluation of multilevel surgical-risks, discussion of optimized strategy, and shared-decision-making with the patient are needed to maximize both the safety from infectious pandemic and outcome of surgical and oncologic care.

  • The history of computer virus comes along with that of computer. Computer virus han surfaced as a serious problem in information age. The advent of open network and widespread use of Internet made the problem even more urgent. As a method of defense for computer virus most companies use anti-virus software. Selecting appropriate anti-virus software involves various criteria and thus it is a multiple-attribute decision making problem. The purpose of this study is to prioritize anti-virus software evaluation factors. To do that, first of all, important evaluation factors are selected based on previous research on anti-virus software as well as general software evaluation models. Then, a questionnaire survey was conducted on end-users, system administrators and anti-virus software developers. The survey result was analyzed with ExpertChoice 2000 which is based on Analytic hierarchy Process technique. This study found that there are clear differences among three survey groups regarding the relative importance of overall evaluation factors. End-user group ranked "cost" first, but it was the least important factor to developer group. Developers pointed out "operational support" ad the most important factor. There were also obvious differences in the relative importance of detail evaluation items. Both end-users and system administrators shared 7 common items among top 10 most important items. Moreover, neither of the two groups ranked any of the items in the "operational support" factor in top 10, whereas all 4 items in the factor were included in top 10 by developer group.

A Study on the Condition of Family Management Convention and its Intention to Sign it (가족경영협약 실태분석과 체결의향 분석)

  • This paper analyzed the necessity of family management agreement in management succession and the intention of signing it. To this end, 139 management successors were surveyed and the factors affecting the family management agreement were analyzed. The main analysis results are as follows. Firstly, Priority in the management agreement system was the highest participation in decision-making with 34.5 percent, or 19 people, followed by the sharing of management roles and the distribution of revenues and expenses with 27.3 percent, respectively. Secondly, An analysis of the difference between cohabitation with parents and the need for a family management agreement showed that 70.2 percent of successors and 51.7 percent of non-residents shared the opinion that a family management agreement is needed. Finally, according to the analysis, the lower the age of the heirs, the higher the willingness to sign the family management agreement, the more likely the successor who graduated from a related university in the agricultural industry, and the more likely the successor who is a farmer in an urban area, the more willing he is to sign the family management agreement.

  • Culture is that the system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with their world and with one another, and that are transmitted from generation to generation through learning. Members of an organization are affected by culture. And dissensions in an organization give negative effects to behavior of the members, especially to satisfaction from organization. This study is on the dissension management by considering of cultural characteristics of pilots. Cultural characteristics of pilots were surveyed and analyzed with the V5M94(values survey module94) which was developed by Hofstede. As results, the cultural indexes of the pilots were different from the national means. The indexes presented that korean pilots' cultural characteristics are low POI, high IDV, low MAS and low UAI as North European cultural characteristics. For managing the pilots group, make expansion of opportunity to take part in decision making, release or share of informations are required. And motivations, delegation, free from unnecessary interventions, understanding and forgiveness rather than disciplinary punishment, thoughtful considerations could be effectiveness. And for developing more effective management methods, management strategies of north european airlines should be studied.

A Journey of Digital Transformation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Vietnam: Insights from Multiple Cases

  • This study aims to investigate the status quo and identify the challenges and benefits of the digital transformation in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. The six participating SMEs were purposely contacted, and they were either nominated for, or received the Vietnam Digital Awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020, which were held by the Vietnam Digital Communication Association (http://en.vdca.org.vn/). A qualitative research method is adopted, using a semi-structured interview method and a theoretical triangulation of legitimacy, stakeholder and stewardship theories to facilitate the investigation. This research tries to identify the current challenges and benefits for digital transformation of SMEs in Vietnam, based on perception and experience from business leaders and managers from six SMEs in Vietnam. The findings of this study reveal that besides the recent challenges for digital transformation, participants also experienced and shared their perspectives regarding the benefits received from the digital transformation journey of their organization, which varied from (i) improve operational as well as business functions; (ii) liberate staffs and managers from daily work and allows them to focus on decision-making tasks; (iii) enable solutions to deal with consequences from the COVID-19 pandemic; (iv) enhance value creation process; and (v) help firms to align with the global business standards.

A Concept Analysis on Patient-Centered Care in Hospitalized Older Adults with Multimorbidity (복합질환을 가진 입원노인 대상 환자중심간호 개념분석)

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to explore the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of patient-centered care (PCC) for older adults with multimorbidity in acute care hospitals. Methods : The concept analysis performed by Walker and Avant was used to analyze PCC. Fifteen studies from the literature related to PCC appear in systematic literature reviews in the fields of theology, medicine, psychology, and nursing. Results : PCC in acute care hospitals was defined according to the five attributes of 'maintaining patient autonomy', 'empowering self-care', 'individualized and relationship-based care', 'shared decision-making', and 'creating a homelike environment'. Antecedents of PCC were found to be a respect for patients' preferences, qualifications of the nursing staff, care coordination and integration, and organizational support. Consequences of effective PCC were a functional status; health-related quality of life; satisfaction with care, mortality, and medical costs from the perspective of the patient and family; and quality of care and therapeutic relationships from nurses' viewpoints. Conclusion : PCC as defined by the results of this study will contribute to the foundation of institutionalization and the creation of a safe and healthy acute care hospital culture focused on patients' preferences and values.

How to Treat Chronic Subdural Hematoma? Past and Now

  • Treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is relatively straightforward, however, there is still some debate regarding the best strategy for treatment. The most practical recommendations of up to date were identified by a review of literature. The author reviewed the literature on CSDH management from the past to now to identify the best methods. Till 1970s, craniotomy was the most commonly used method. Burr hole (BH) became the most preferred method from 1980s. In 1977, twist drill (TD) craniostomy was introduced. Closed system drainage after a BH or a TD became the most frequently used surgical method. Although nonsurgical treatment is often successful, trephination has more advantages, such as rapid resolution of the symptoms and short period of hospitalization. Nonsurgical treatment is possible in asymptomatic patients with a small CSDH. For the symptomatic patients with CSDH, trephination is the treatment of choice, either by BH or TD. In gray zone between surgery and medical treatment, shared decision making can be an ideal approach. For the recurrent CSDHs, repeated trephination is still effective for patients with a low risk of recurrence. If the risk of recurrence is high, additional management would be helpful. For the refractory CSDHs, it is necessary to obliterate the subdural space.

Effect of Social Norm on Consumer Demand: Multiple Constraint Approach

  • The goal of the study is to understand the role of social norm in purchase decisions where demand is revealed in the form of multiple-discreteness. Consumers are socially engaged in various activities through the expectation from others in their community. Actions or decisions are likely to reflect this influence. This implicit or explicit social norm is revealed as the rules, regulations, and standards that are understood, shared, endorsed, and expected by group members. When consumers' decisions are in distance from the norm, they come to face discomfort such as shame, guilt, embarrassment, and anxiety. These pressure act as a constraint as opposed to utility in their decision making. In this study, the effect of social norms on consumer demand is captured via multiple constraint model where constraints are not only from budget equation but also from psychological burden induced by the deviation from the norm. The posterior distributions of model parameters were estimated via conjoint study allowing for heterogeneity via hierarchical Bayesian framework. Individual characteristics such as age, gender and work experience are also used as covariates for capturing the observed heterogeneity. The empirical results show the role of social norm as constraint in consumers' utility maximization. The proposed model accounting for social constraint outperforms the standard budget constraint-only model in terms of model fit. It is found that people with longer job experience tend to be more robust and resistant to the deviation from the norm. Incorporating social norm into the utility model allows for another means to disentangle the reason for no-purchase as 'not preferred' and 'not able to buy'.

A Study on Interest Issues Using Social Media New (소셜미디어 뉴스를 이용한 관심 이슈 연구)

  • Purpose Recently, as a new business marketing tool, short form content focused on fun and interest has been shared as hashtags. By extracting positive and negative keywords from media audiences through comment analysis of social media news, various stakeholders aim to quickly and easily grasp users' opinions on major news. Design/methodology/approach YouTube videos were searched using the YouTube Data API and the results were collected. Video comments were crawled and implemented as HTML elements, and the collection results were checked on the web page. The collected data consisted of video thumbnails, titles, contents, and comments. Comments were word tokenized with the R program, comparing positive and negative dictionaries, and then quantifying polarity. In addition, social network analysis was conducted using divided positive and negative comments, and the results of centrality analysis and visualization were confirmed. Findings Social media users' opinions on issue news were confirmed by analyzing and visualizing the centrality of keywords through social network analysis by dividing comments into positive and negative. As a result of the analysis, it was found that negative objective reviews had the highest effect on information usefulness. In this way, previous studies have been reaffirmed that online negative information has a strong effect on personal decision-making. Corporate marketers will analyze user comments on social network services (SNS) to detect negative opinions about products or corporate images, which will serve as an opportunity to satisfy customers' needs.
