Development of Automatic Design Program for Small Scale Vinyl House by Regions (지역별 단동비닐하우스 자동설계프로그램 개발)

  • The objectives of this study are to develope the automatic design programs to offer the data when constructing a small scale vinyl-house by region. This program consists of four subroutines. The first is an automatic greenhouse modeling program, the second is a calculating design load program by region, the third is a structural analysis program and the last is a optimum shape design program. The structural analysis can be conducted by simple date input and considering the design load of the install regions into account. The shape of input data is very simple, and the program reflects the design load by region. The output data can be obtained from the automatical calculation processing after structural analysis. The program was verified by compared with outputs of a common use structural analysis program and the results are the same. It was concluded that the developed program could be used efficiently in optimum design of small scale vinyl house.

Optimum shape and process design of single rotor equipment for its mixing performance using finite volume method

  • We numerically analyzed flow characteristics of the polymer melt in the screw equipment using a proper modeling and investigated design parameters which have influence on the mixing performance as the capability of the screw equipment. We considered the non-Newtonian and non-isothermal flow in a single rotor equipment to investigate the mixing performance with respect to screw dimensions as shape parameter of the single rotor equipment and screw speed as process parameter. We used Bird-Carreau-Yasuda model as a viscous model of the polymer melt and the particle tracking method to investigate the mixing performance in the screw equipment and considered four mixing performance indexes: residence time distribution, deformation rate, total strain and particle standard deviation as a new mixing performance index. We compared these indexes to determine design parameters and object function. On basis of the analysis results, we carried out the optimal design by using the response surface method and design of experiments. In conclusion, the differences of results between the optimal value and numerical analysis are about 5.0%.

  • This paper considers the problem of optimum shaping of steel arches subjected to general loading. The weight of arches is considered as the objective function and the appropriate combinations of section forces, material volume, arc length, and closed section area of arches are considered as the stress constraints. The shape optimization problems are formulated in terms of the design variables of sectional areas of each element. First the cost sensitivity of the design is investigated. Then the investigation comprises the search for the optimum arch form as well as the optimum area distribution along the arch. Two spaces of shape optimization algorithm will be treated, the first space corresponding to the section optimization by the Modified Newton Raphson Method, and the second space to the coordinate optimization by the Powell Method. The optimization algorithm is evaluated and the optimum span-rise ratios for the given arches are evaluated.

  • Optimum shape of Double-cone supersonic inlet is studied by using numerical methods. Double-cone intake shape is used for the design optimization study. And the total pressure recovery at the exit is used to assess the aerodynamic performance of the inlet.

  • An Optimal shape design of the boom system in high ladder vehicles is performed using 3-D finite element method (FEM). Results of structural analyses providing displacements, stresses are implemented for the optimum shape design. Lanzcos algorithm is used for the modal analysis in order to find natural frequencies. The optimal shape including cross sectional thickness and length of the boom system is controlled by the subproblem method besed on displacement and Von Mises stress. It is found that a plenty of materials can be saved by using shape design optimization in high ladder vehicles. It is also found that the natural frequency is increased until 6th mode and maintained similarly or decreased after 6th mode.

  • This paper is concerned with optimum design of a center-pillar assembly induced by the high-speed side impact of the vehicle. In order to simulate deformation behavior of the center-pillar assembly, simplified finite element model of the center-pillar and a moving deformable barrier are developed based on results of the crash analysis of a full vehicle model. In optimization of the deformation shape of the center-pillar, S-shaped deformation is targeted to guarantee reduction of the injury level of a driver dummy in the crash test. Tailor-welded blanks are adopted in the simplified center-pillar model to control the deformation shape of the center-pillar assembly. The thickness of each part which constitutes the simplified model is selected as a design parameter. The thickness of parts which have significant effect on the deformation mechanism are selected as design parameters with sensitivity analysis based on the design of experiment technique. The objective function is constructed so as to minimize the weight and lead to an S-mode deformation shape. The result shows that the simplified model can be utilized effectively for optimum design of the center-pillar members with remarkable saving of computing time.

  • The Mooney-Rivlin second order optimal strain energy function derived through uniaxial tensile test and analysis was applied to a gasket to confirm the internal stress and surface pressure generated during compression. The Taguchi method, a statistical technique, was used to design the optimum shape of the gasket, and through characteristic evaluation, the optimum shape of the gasket was obtained when the reference plane (T: 0.15 mm), contact surface (W: 1.00 mm), and curvature (R: 0.30 mm) were used. It was determined that the optimum shape yields a von Mises stress of 4.83 MPa, and the contact pressure stress is 20.14 MPa, which satisfies breakage and sealing requirements. In the future, we plan to manufacture a jig that can measure surface pressure to conduct comparative verification studies between the test results and analysis results.

  • Process optimization is carried out to determine process parameters which satisfy the given design requirement and constraint conditions in sheet metal forming processes. Sensitivity -based-approach is utilized for the optimum searching of process parameters in sheet metal forming precesses. The scheme incorporates an elasto-plastic finite element method with shell elements . Sensitivities of state variables are calculated from the direct differentiation of the governing equation for the finite element analysis. The algorithm developed is applied to design of the variablc blank holding force in deep drawing processes. Results show that determination of process parameters is well performed to control the major strain for preventing fracture by tearing or to decrease the amount of springback for improving the shape accuracy. Results demonstrate that design of process parameters with the present approach is applicable to real sheet metal forming processes.

A Study on the Intial Blank Design Using Ideal Forming Theory (이상적 변형이론을 이용한 박판 초기형상 설계에 관한 연구)

  • A new blank design method is introduced to predict the blank shape and the strain distribution in the sheet metal forming process. This method deals with only one step from the final shape to the initial blank using the ideal forming theory. Based on this theory, a three-dimensional membrane finite element code has been developed to design an initial blank in the sheet metal forming process. In this paper, the designs of initial blanks for forming a cylindrical cup, a rectangular cup, and a front fender are presented as examples. Also, it compares the two shapes, the target shape with the shape which is deformed from the initial blank using the FEM analysis code. The results illustrate the information that this direct design code is useful in the preliminary design state.

  • In this work, an optimum shape synthesis for rolling contact components was done to minimize contact forces considering dynamic characteristics of the system. Even this method was applied to an OHC type cam follower system, it can be expanded to general rolling contact shape design problems which are strictly forced to follow predetermined motion. First, the follower optimum angular motion was derived to minimize the valve peak acceleration while satisfying all the constraints of valve motion. Then the cam and follower contact shape were synthesized to give the proposed follower motion. Theoretically, two components shape to generate a predetermined motion can not be uniquely determined. So the cam shape was syntehsized with parametric synthesis method to minimize the peak contact force between cam and follower when the follower shape is assumed as a circle or an ellipse.
