3D Modeling of Building Sides from the Stereo Images for the Realistic Virtual City in 3D GIS

  • Remote sensing (RS) data show the surfaces of the earth only but cannot provide the shape data of building sides. The proposed method recovers a 3D shape of building sides from stereo images. Its result shows a higher possibility for recovering a large shaped object by overcoming the difficulties of traditional stereo matching techniques. The urban area will be visualized more realistically than the current model based on graphic and vector data.

  • In this paper, w epropose a new mehtod to represent the shape and to recognize the object. The shape description and the matching is implemented by using the distance transform on the morphological skeleton. The employed distance transform is the chamfer (3,4) distance transform, because the chamfer distance transform (CDT) has an approximate value to the euclidean distance. The 2-D object can be represented by means of the distribution of the distance transform on the morphological skeleton, the number of skeletons, the sum of the CDT, and the other features are employed as the mtching parameters. The matching method has the invariant features (rotation, translation, and scaling), and then the method is used effectively for recognizing the differently-posed objects and/or marks of the different shape and size.

  • In this paper, 3D recognizing algorithm which is based on the external shape feature is presented. Since many objects have the regular shape, if we posses the database of pattern and we recognize the object using the database of the object's pattern, it is possible to inspect and/or recognize the objects of many fields. This paper handles on the 3D object recognition algorithm using the geometrical pattern matching by 3D database.

An effective classification method for TFT-LCD film defect images using intensity distribution and shape analysis (명암도 분포 및 형태 분석을 이용한 효과적인 TFT-LCD 필름 결함 영상 분류 기법)

  • In order to increase the productivity in manufacturing TFT-LCD(thin film transistor-liquid crystal display), it is essential to classify defects that occur during the production and make an appropriate decision on whether the product with defects is scrapped or not. The decision mainly depends on classifying the defects accurately. In this paper, we present an effective classification method for film defects acquired in the panel production line by analyzing the intensity distribution and shape feature of the defects. We first generate a binary image for each defect by separating defect regions from background (non-defect) regions. Then, we extract various features from the defect regions such as the linearity of the defect, the intensity distribution, and the shape characteristics considering intensity, and construct a referential image database that stores those feature values. Finally, we determine the type of a defect by matching a defect image with a referential image in the database through the matching cost function between the two images. To verify the effectiveness of our method, we conducted a classification experiment using defect images acquired from real TFT-LCD production lines. Experimental results show that our method has achieved highly effective classification enough to be used in the production line.

  • This paper presents a method to extract objects in radiographic images where all the allowable combinations of segmented regions are compared to a target object using Fourier descriptor. In the object extraction for usual images, a main problem is occlusion. In radiographic images, there is an advantage that the shape of an object is not occluded by other objects. It is because radiographic images represent the amount of radiation penetrated through objects. Considering the property of no occlusion in radiographic images, the shape based descriptors can be very effective to find objects. After all, the proposed object extraction method consists of three steps of segmenting regions, finding all the combinations of the segmented regions, and matching the combinations to the shape of the target object. In finding the combinations, we reduce a lot of computations to remove unnecessary combinations before matching. In matching, we employ Fourier descriptor so that the proposed method is rotation and shift invariant. Additionally, shape normalization is adopted to be scale invariant. By experiments, we verify that the proposed method works well in extracting objects.

Measurement Accuracy for 3D Structure Shape Change using UAV Images Matching (UAV 영상정합을 통한 구조물 형상변화 측정 정확도 연구)

  • Recently, there are many studies related aerial mapping project and 3 dimensional shape and model reconstruction using UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) system and images. In this study, we create 3D reconstruction point data using image matching technology of the UAV overlap images, detect shape change of structure and perform accuracy assessment of area($m^2$) and volume($m^3$) value. First, we build the test structure model data and capturing its images of shape change Before and After. Second, for post-processing the Before dataset is convert the form of raster format image to ensure the compare with all 3D point clouds of the After dataset. The result shows high accuracy in the shape change of more than 30 centimeters, but less is still it becomes difficult to apply because of image matching technology has its own limits. But proposed methodology seems very useful to detect illegal any structures and the quantitative analysis of the structure's a certain amount of damage and management.

  • The objective of this research is to detect the papaya fruits on tree in an orchard. The detection of papaya on natural background is difficult because colors of fruits and background such as leaves are similarly green. We cannot separate it from leaves by color information. Therefore, this research will use shape information instead. First, we detect an interested object by detecting its boundary using edge detection technique. However, the edge detection will detect every objects boundary in the image. Therefore, shape description technique will be used to describe which one is the interested object boundary. The good shape description should be invariant in scaling, rotating, and translating. The successful concept is to use Fourier series, which is called "Fourier Descriptors". Elliptic Fourier Descriptors can completely represent any shape, which is selected to describe the shape of papaya. From the edge detection image, it takes a long time to match every boundary directly. The pre-processing task will reduce non-papaya edge to speed up matching time. The deformable template is used to optimize the matching. Then, clustering the similar shapes by the distance between each centroid, papaya can be completely detected from the background.

  • The location template matching(LTM) method is a technique of identifying an impact location on a structure, and requires a certain measure of similarity between two time signals. In general, the correlation coefficient is widely used as the measure of similarity, while the group delay based method is recently proposed to improve the accuracy of the impact localization. Another possible measure is the frequency response assurance criterion(FRAC), though this has not been applied yet. In this paper, these three different measures of similarity are examined comparatively by using experimental data in order to understand the properties of these measures of similarity. The comparative study shows that the correlation coefficient and the FRAC give almost the same information while the group delay based method gives the shape oriented information that is best suitable for the location template matching method.

  • In this paper, we propose the 3D shape reconstruction method that combine the mosaic method and the active stereo matching using the laser beam. The active stereo matching method detects the position information of the irradiated laser beam on object by analyzing the color and brightness variation of left and right image, and acquires the depth information in epipolar line. The mosaic method extracts feature point of image by using harris comer detection and matches the same keypoint between the sequence of images using the keypoint descriptor index method and infers correlation between the sequence of images. The depth information of the sequence image was calculated by the active stereo matching and the mosaic method. The merged depth information was reconstructed to the 3D shape information by wrapping and blending with image color and texture. The proposed reconstruction method could acquire strong the 3D distance information, and overcome constraint of place and distance etc, by using laser slit beam and stereo camera.
