  • In this paper, a morphological shape decomposition method is proposed for the purpose of pattern recognition and image compression. In the method, a structuring element that geometrical characteristics is more similar to the shape function is preselected. The shape is decomposed into the primitive elements corresponding to the structuring element. A gray scale image also is transformed into 8 bit plane images for the hierarchical reconstruction required in image communication systems. The shape in each bitplane is decomposed to the proposed method. Through the experiment. it is proved that the description error is reduced and the coding efficiency is improved.

  • This study suggests a prediction model of ground motion spectral shape considering characteristics of earthquake records in Korea. Based on the Graizer and Kalkan's prediction procedure, a spectral shape model is defined as a continuous function of period in order to improve the complex problems of the conventional models. The approximate spectral shape function is then developed with parameters such as moment magnitude, fault distance, and average shear velocity of independent variables. This paper finally determines estimator coefficients of subfunctions which explain the corelation among the independent variables using the nonlinear optimization. As a result of generating the prediction model of ground motion spectral shape, the ground motion spectral shape well estimates the response spectrum of earthquake recordings in Korea.

  • The shape optimization of a Thomson coil actuator used in an arc eliminator is done for fast response by adopting topology modification method. The displacement of the plate in a fixed calculation time is taken as the objective function. The objective function and contribution factor are calculated by using an adaptive equivalent circuit method which has been proved accurate and efficient. Both shape optimization and performance analysis are accomplished based on the segmentation of plate. Through the refinement of the sensitive segments a precise optimal plate shape can be obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by the comparison of results before and after the shape optimization.

  • We will explain a new method for obtaining the nearly optimal domain for optimal shape design problems associated with the solution of a nonlinear wave equation. Taking into account the boundary and terminal conditions of the system, a new approach is applied to determine the optimal domain and its related optimal control function with respect to the integral performance criteria, by use of positive Radon measures. The approach, say shape-measure, consists of two steps; first for a fixed domain, the optimal control will be identified by the use of measures. This function and the optimal value of the objective function depend on the geometrical variables of the domain. In the second step, based on the results of the previous one and by applying some convenient optimization techniques, the optimal domain and its related optimal control function will be identified at the same time. The existence of the optimal solution is considered and a numerical example is also given.

  • This paper deals with a comparative study on coupling of Element-free Galerkin(EFG) method and Infinite Element(IE) by IE's shape function. In this study, mapped infinite elements(mapped IE) and decay function infinite elements(decay IE) are coupled with the EFG method. A coupling procedure of EFG-Mapped IE is much easier to be integrated than a coupled EFG-Decay IE. A coupled EFG-IE method used well-defined functions to preserve the continuity and linear consistency on the interface of the EFG region and IE region. Several benchmark problems are solved to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the coupling algorithms by IE's shape function. The numerical results show that the developed algorithms work well for the elastic problems with infinite boundaries.

  • In this study, we developed for processing complex features using CAM software that satisfies precision for example practice and related qualification tests suiTable for CNC training purposes. In addition, functions such as location control, speed control, and processing path generation, which are the main functions of CNC machining machines, were constructed using small equipment parts, servo motors, inverters, general purpose PCs, and commercial NC software and researched with the goal of developing low-cost education equipment. In the static accuracy inspection, the degree of machine when measuring the parallelism of the X, Y and Z axes and the vibration of the main shaft did not reach the allowable value. However, we have obtained a finished product that satisfies the CNC machine book sample shape machining, detailed functions of the position control function of the CNC machine tool, linear interpolation function, circular interpolation function, and tool offset function. In the qualification test shape processing, a shape with a degree of 1/100 mm was processed to obtain position accuracy that satisfied the tolerance.

  • In the present study the meaning of table in the Joseon dynasty period and also in the present age was researched, and its changing according to the times was searched as well. The results are as follows. First, the meaning of table in the Joseon dynasty period and in the present age has one thing, "laying something on table" in common from the functional aspect. Whereas the table in the Joseon dynasty period had the function of laying and keeping articles or decorations, that of the present age contributes to reading and doing office work of human beings and this exceeds the simple function to keep articles, because it touches parts of the human body, so it combines function of comfort accordingly, not only the function of storage. Second, it was differently presented from the aspect of shape. The table of the Joseon dynasty period strongly showed the shelf-like shape due to the set-up in layers, while the table of the modern times has the rectangle-like form in one layer. It has been transformed according to the functional changes. Third, it is different also from the constructive aspect. The table of the Joseon dynasty period had the construction with one panel on 4 legs in layer upon layer, but the table today has one upper panel on legs supporting it. Namely, the term "table" has been constantly used from the Josen dynasty period until today, but it has a totally different meaning according to the times on the basis of the changes in function and shape. In the furniture which maintains the function and shape of the square-typed table with 3 or 4 layers and the book table in the Joseon dynasty but is used under the different term in the present times it can be counted that display cupboard or bookshelf. Furthermore, desk and tea table can be regarded as furniture which exactly corresponds with the term "table" used in the present days, and also in the Joseon dynasty period there were furniture with such same function as like the writing table and small dining table.

  • Inspired by using a robust loss function in the support vector machine regression to control training error and the idea of robust template matching with M-estimator, Chen (2004) applies M-estimator techniques to gaussian radial basis functions and form a new class of robust kernels for the support vector machines. We are specially interested in the shape of the Huber's M-estimator in this context and propose a way to find the shape parameter of the Huber's M-estimating function. For simplicity, only the two-class classification problem is considered.

  • In many areas of finite element analysis, elements with special properties are required to achieve maximal accuracy. As examples, we may mention infinite elements for the representation of spatial domain that extend to special and singular elements for modeling point and line singularities engendered by geomeric features such as reentrant corners and cracks. In this paper, we study on modified shape function representing singular properties and algorigthm for the pollution adaptive mesh generation. We will also show that the modified shape function reduces pollution error and local error.
