SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language) is proper to view, modify and create new electronic document as documentation standard to create and interchange the structured document information. Accordingly, a study on efficient storage and management of very large structured SGML document information is need. This paper proposes design of data modeling based on GROVE(Graph Representation Of property ValuEs) defined in HyTime(Hypermedia Time-based Structuring Language) and describes design of SGML document storage management system.

Electronic socuments described in SGML DTD are effedtive to manage with the object-oriented database. To do that,first of all, a database design for SGML documents must be preceeded. In this paper, we suggest an object-oriented meta schema for managing SGML DTDs, which describes logical structures of electrinic socuments. We also propose a method a methof to manage electronic documents in object-oriented databases through the application database schema which is synamically create from the meta schema.

SGML(ISO 8879) has been proliferated to support various document styles and to transfer documents into different platforms. SGML documents have logical structure information in addition to contents. As SGML documents are widely used, there is an increasing need for database storage and retrieval system using the logical structure of documents. However. traditional search engines using document indexes cannot exploit the logical structure. In this Paper, we have developed an SGML document storage system, which is DTD-independent and store the document type and the document instance separately by using Grove which is the document model for DSSSL and HyTime. We have used the Object Store, an object-oriented DBMS, to store the structure information appropriately without any loss of structural information. Also, we have supported a index structure for search efficiency like the relational DBMS, and constructed an effective user interface which combines content-based search with structure-based search.

A description of SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language) is given together with a detailed description of WIPO Standard ST.32. The benefits of the use of SGML are highlighted-its system Independence and flexibility in building publication systems and full-text databases. A structure of WIPO Standard ST,32 based patent content is defined by DTD(document type definition) written in ST.32, and full-text itself is described with generalized markup depending on DTD. This article explains how to represent a document structure : a hierarchy structure like a entire document, a specific, sub-document, a paragraph, or non-hirarchy structure like a table drawings, or chemical structures. Merits of SGML In patent document processing are also discussed.

SGML/XML 기반 문서 정보 시스템의 문서 포맷은 인간이 비교적 쉽게 이해할 수 있으며 기존의 문서 정보 시스템에서는 접근 불가한 레벨까지 인간이 접근할 수 있는 통로를 제공한다. 또한, 문서처리 관점에서 보면 기존의 각 CAL/EC관련 응용 프로그램에서 생성된 데이터는 문서 또는 파일 단위의 접근으로 업무레벨에 도움을 주는 것이 제한적인 것에 반해 SGML/XML 기반 문서정보 시스템은 DTD(Document Type Definition)에서 설계된 엘리먼트, 속성, 엔티티 등의 단위까지 접근할 수 있는 Mechanism으로 기존의 문서 정보 시스템과 차별화 되는 지식 매체로서 지식기반 시스템의 하부 프레임워크를 제공한다. SGML/XML 기반 문서 정보 시스템의 요소로서 SGML/XML 문서 정보 검색 시스템은 표현된 계층적 논리정보를 이용하여 다양한 문서 접근점을 제공할 수 있으며, 사용자 요구에 적합한 문서의 재사용 및 동적인 문서제시를 가능하게 한다. 또한, SGML/XML 문서 정보 관리 시스템은 공동 저작을 위한 세부 논리적 단위별 check-in/check-out, 액세스 제어, 버전닝 기능 등을 제공하여 기업 내 자산 관리를 위한 새로운 파라다임을 제공한다. 본 논문에서는 구현 사례와 더불어 SGML/XML 기술이 CALS/EC 추진에 주는 영향과 향후 바람직한 CALS/EC 또는 가상기업(Virtual Enterprise)구축을 위한 기술적 방향에 대해 논한다.

SGML은 이 기종간에 호환이 가능하고 논리적인 구조 정보를 포함한다는 장점 때문에 문서처리의 다양한 분야에서 표준 포맷으로 자리를 잡았다. 그러나 SGML 은 문서의 스타일이나 변환등의 처리 정보를 기술할 수 있는 방법을 제공하지 않는다. 이에 ISO는 SGML 문서의 다양한 처리 정보를 기술할 수 있는 표준으로 DSSSL을 제안하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 SGML 문서의 내용 및 구조를 수정할 수 있는 DSSSL 기반의 문서 변환기를 개발하였다. 이를 위하여 SGML 문서와 DSSSL 문서간의 표준적인 인터페이스를 지원하는 Grove 생성기를 개발하였으며 DSSSL 의 변환 언어를 지원하는 처리 모듈을 개발하였다.

본 논문에서 다루는 SGML 문서편집기는 파서를 내포하는 구조로서, 문서편집을 위하여 DTD 가 입력되고, 입력된 DTD 는 DTD 파서에 의해 적합성을 점검하게 된다. DTD 파서는 표준규칙에 따라 DTD를 파싱하고, 결과를 편집처리에 적합한 BNF-스타일 형태로 변환된 문법 테이블을 생성한다. SGML 문서 편집은 문법테이블 정보에 따라 처리된다. 문법 테이블의 크기는 엘리먼트 선언내용 중 컨텐트 모델의 표현에 따라 결정된다. 그 중 and(&) 접속자는 엘리먼트 개수에 따라 문법수가 기하급수적으로 증가하므로 DTD 파서에 의해 처리된다면 속도나 비용면에서 비효율적이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 고정된 문법테이블을 이용하는 SGML 편집기에 and 접속자로 표현된 엘리먼트 문법을 동적으로 확정 처리할 수 있는 기능이 추가 향상된 구문지향적 SGML 문서편집기를 제시한다. 그러므로 향상된 구문지향 SGML 문서편집기는 고정된 문법을 이용한 문서편집 뿐 아니라 편집처리에 따른 변환에 능동적으로 처리할 수 있다는 특징을 갖게된다.

ISO W3C에서 제안하고 있는 SGML은 문서의 논리적인 구조만을 기술하는 표준이기 때문에 레이아웃이나 프리젠테이션(Presentation)에 관한 정보는 포함하지 않는다. 따라서 SGML 문서를 보다 더 효율적으로 프리젠테이션(또는 브라우징)하기 위해서는 이에 대한 정보인 스타일시트(stylesheet)를 별도로 제공하여야 한다. 본 연구는 서로 다른 저작환경으로부터 구성된 문자를 사용자가 투명하게 뷰잉 또는 브라우징 할 수 ISO DSSSL 기반의 SGML 웹 브라우저를 이용하여 설계 및 구현한다.

이기종 시스템들 간의 멀티미디어 문서 교환을 목적으로 제정된 국제 표준어 SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language)이다[1]. 이 SGML문서로 구축된 각종 파일이나 데이터베이스들은 온라인에 의한 정보검색에 한정되어 있다. 현재 많이 활용하는 웹(WWW)에서는 이들을 XML 문서로 변환되어야 Internet상에서 이용할 수 있다. XML(eXtensible Markup Language)은 이기종 시스템들간의 문서를 교환하고 이를 웹을 통하여 보여줄 수 있다[2]. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 SGML문서를 이용하여 SML문서 형태로 변환하는 방안을 제시하고, 이를 구현하는데 목적이 있다.

이기종 간의 문서 교환 표준으로 제안되 SGML은 문서의 구조정보를 표현할 수 있는 장점으로 인해 CALS(Commerce At Light Speed), EC(Electronic Commerce), EDI(Electronic Data Interchange), 전자 도서관(Digital Library) 등 여러 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 이렇게 SGML이 여러 분야에서 사용됨에 따라 많은 SGML 문서 중에서 원하는 문서를 효율적으로 찾아줄 수 있는 검색 시스템의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 이에 본 연구실에서는 기본적인 구조 검색을 지원하는 SGML 문서 관리시스템을 기개발하였다. 그러나 이 시스템은 구조 검색을 효과적으로 지원하기 못하기 때문에 본 연구에서는 구조 검색의 기능을 정의하고, 이를 지원하는 새로운 구조 질의어를 정의하였다. 또한 이러한 구조 검색을 효과적으로 지원하기 위한 구조 색인을 정의하였다. 그리고 구조 검색 방식으로 세가지 방식을 각각 구현 및 실험하여 그 중에서 성능이 뛰어난 절충식을 이용하여 검색 시스템을 구현하였다.
