해송 채종원(採種園)에서 개화특성(開花特性)의 클론 변이(變異) (Clonal Variation of Flowering in Pinus thunbergii Seed Orchard)

  • 본 연구는 1979년에 조성된 해송 채종원에서 6년간(1995~2000년) 개화량를 조사하여 얻은 자료를 토대로 생식과정에 관계된 몇 가지 특성들을 계량화 하고자 하였다. 전체 60개 클론 중 18개 클론(30%)이 차지하는 자화의 상대적인 기여도는 0.37(1999)~0.46(1995), 웅화는 0.44(1999)~0.57(1995)로 자화보다 다소 높게 나타났으며 소수 클론에 의해 편중되는 현상이 다른 수종에 비하여 작게 나타났다. 배우체(v♀, v♂) 수준에서 상대적인 유효집단수는 각각 0.59(1995)~0.91(1999)과 0.56(1995)~0.83(1998), 접합체($v_b$) 수준에서는 0.72(1995)~0.93(1999)으로 추정되어 자성배우체가 웅성배우체보다 많게 나타났다. 웅화 개화량에 대한 평균지수는 전체 클론의 73% 이상이 0.4~0.6($0.5{\pm}0.1$)의 값을 나타내었으며, 연도간에는 73%(1996)~100%(2000)로 다양하게 나타났다. 성적 불균형도($A_s$)는 0.09~0.26으로 추정되어 다른 수종에 비해 상대적으로 낮아 높은 유전적 균일성을 나타내었다. 모든 유효집단수 간에는 정의 상관을 보였으며, 성적 불균형도는 모든 유효집단수와 부의 상관을 나타내었다.

Asymmetries in Chickens from Lines Selected and Relaxed for High or Low Antibody Titers to Sheep Red Blood Cells

  • Wattle length, width, and area were measured to classify bilateral asymmetries in four lines of chickens. The lines were the S26 generation of White Leghorns selected for high (HAS) or low (LAS) response to sheep red blood cells and sublines in which selection had been relaxed for three generations (high antibody relaxed [HAR] and low antibody relaxed [LAR]). Antibody titers (AB) were greater for HAS than for HAR with both greater than for LAS and LAR which while different for males did not differ for females. The low antibody lines were heavier and reached sexual maturity at younger age than the high antibody lines. In general, wattle length, width, and area were greater in the low than high antibody lines. In 24 comparisons for bilaterality 18 exhibited fluctuating asymmetry and 6 exhibited directional asymmetry with 5 of the 6 being for wattle length. There was not a clear pattern for changes in degree of asymmetry when selection was relaxed for 3 generations. For females, the relative asymmetry (RA) of wattle area was larger ($p{\leq}0.05$) for HAR than for LAR and not different from the selected lines and relaxed lines. There were no differences among lines for RA of wattle length and width of females and wattle length, width, and area of males.

Genetic Variation of Flower Production in Breeding Seedling Seed Orchards of Quercus acuta and Q. glauca

  • This study was conducted to test the significant difference of fertility variation among families and to select superior families for acorn production in the breeding seedling seed orchards (BSSOs) of Quercus acuta and Quercus glauca. The seed orchards were located in Jeju island and established by seedlings raised from selected parents for genetic testing in 2006. In the spring of 2021, the numbers of female and male flower were counted from 5 to 10 individuals per family in the BSSOs. To test statistical significance of which parameter is not satisfied through the normality test, we used a nonparametric analysis. Correlation analysis was performed to quantify the association between female and male flower production. As the results, the significant difference of flower production among families was found in both seed orchards. The averages of female flower production were 65.3 and 181.9 in Q. acuta and Q. glauca. The positive Spearman's rank correlation was existed between male and female flower production. Broad-sense heritability on female and male flower production were 0.191 and 0.147 in Q. acuta, and 0.285 and 0.068 in Q. glauca, respectively. Sexual asymmetry (e.g., maleness index) between female and male, and contribution variation among families (e.g., parental balance) were analyzed to find reasonable alternatives in the management of seed orchards. Effective population size of seed crops was predicted as a concept of status number. Loss of gene diversity (accumulation of group coancestry) would not be alarming in the BSSOs. Our results would be helpful to select breeding materials for establishing new seed orchards and to supply genetically improved seeds of evergreen oaks, which is one of the backbones of the strategy of carbon sink in the 2050 Carbon Neutrality of Korea Forest Service.

증례 보고 : Russell-Silver Syndrome (CASE REPORTS RUSSELL-SILVER SYNDROME)

  • 러셀-실버 증후군(Russell-Silver syndrome)은 출생시 저신장, 편측성 비대칭과 성기관 발육의 다양성 및 그 외 cafe-aulait 반점, 만지증 등의 특징과 태아기부터 발현되는 성장지연을 보이는 질환이다. 이 신드롬과 관련된 안면 특징은 작고 삼각형의 얼굴과 짧은 안면고경, 구각부가 아래로 쳐진 입모양(shark's mouth) 작은 하악골과 흔히 좌우 비대칭이 있는 것이다. 현재까지 보고되고 있는 러셀-실버 증후군의 주요한 구강내 소견은 높은 구개궁(high-arched palate), 맹출 지연, 왜소치와 총생이다. 현재까지 세계적으로 약 150 증례가 보고되고 있으나 치의학적으로는 극히 드물다. 본 증례는 출생전 성장지연, 저신장, 저체중 등 임상소견을 통해 러셀-실버 증후군으로 진단받았고 성장호르몬 치료를 받았고, 현재 치료 중이다. 이 두 증례를 통해 러셀-실버 증후군의 구강내 특징을 보고하고, 관련 문헌을 고찰해 보고자 한다.

유치의 치아크기에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE SIZE OF THE DECIDUOUS TEETH)

  • 전라북도 전주시 유치원 어린이 650명을 대상으로 구강내 검사 실시하여 평균 연령 4.5세 어린이 100명(남아 50명, 여아 50명)의 유치열 석고모형을 계측하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 유치의 계측자내 오차는 제1유구치에서 다소 크고, 총평균치는 0.255mm이었다. 2. 유치의 근원심 및 순(협)설측 치관 직경은 전체 유치에서 남아가 여아보다 컸다. 3. 변동계수(coefficient variation)는 남 여아 모두 유전치부위가 유구치부위에 비해 다소 큰 경향을 보였고, 근원심 및 순(협)설측 치관 직경 모두 제2유구치에서 크기변화가 가장 적게 나타났다. 4. 좌, 우측 동명치 사이의 차이를 나타내는 비대칭성에서는 상악 근원심 크기 측정을 제외하고는 근원심 및 협설측 치관 크기 측정 모두에서 제2유구치가 제1유구치보다 보다 덜 비대칭적이었다. 5. Crown index는 상악의 경우 여아보다 남아에서 큰 반면, 하악의 경우에는 유견치를 제외하고는 여아에서 컸다. Crown module은 여아보다 남아에서 컸고, 일반적인 치아크기가 유중절치에서부터 제2유구치까지 점차 증가하였다. Crown area도 여아보다 남아에서 컸으며 하악 유중절치가 가장 적은 면적을 나타냈고, 상악 제2유구치가 가장 큰 면적을 나타냈다.

Recovery of inferior alveolar nerve injury after bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO): a retrospective study

  • Background: Bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) is the most widely used mandibular surgical technique in orthognathic surgery and is easy to relocate the distal segments, accelerating bone repair by the large surface of bone contact. However, it can cause neurosensory dysfunction (NSD) or sensory loss by injury of the inferior alveolar nerve. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate NSD after BSSRO and modifiers at NSD recovery. Methods: In this study, NSD characteristics after BSSRO from 2009 to 2014 at the Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital were evaluated. The pattern of sensory recovery over time was also evaluated based on factors such as field of sensory dysfunction, surgical procedure, presence of pre-operative facial asymmetry, and postoperative medications. Results: Most of the patients had shown NSD immediately after orthognathic surgery. Among the 1192 sides of 596 patients, NSD was observed in 953 sides and 544 patients. Sexual predilection was shown in males (p value = 0.0062). In the asymmetric group of 132 patients, NSD was observed in 128 patients (96.97 %). In the symmetric group of 464 patients, NSD was observed in 416 patients (89.45 %); on the other hand, NSD was observed significantly higher in the asymmetric group (p = 0.025). NSD-associated factors were analyzed, and vitamin B12 may be beneficial for NSD recovery. Conclusions: There was a difference between the symmetric group and the asymmetric group in NSD recovery. Vitamin B12 can be regarded as an effective method to nerve recovery. However, a further prospective study is needed.
