The Effect of Inclusion versus Exclusion on Consideration Set Size: The Moderating Role of Chronic Indecisiveness

  • A great deal of research has explored individuals' attempts to simplify choices by constructing a consideration set. This research aims to investigate which construction strategy, either inclusion or exclusion, is more likely to be adopted and how the adoption of a particular construction strategy can affect consideration set size while identifying the moderating role of chronic indecisiveness in the construction process. The findings of Study 1 indicate that individuals are more likely to adopt an inclusion strategy to reduce a consideration set to a more manageable size, and that an exclusion strategy results in a larger consideration set. In Study 2, the findings reveal that high-indecisiveness individuals are less likely than low-indecisiveness individuals to select an inclusion strategy, but that high-indecisiveness individuals adopting an inclusion strategy are able to reduce the number of alternatives in a consideration set to a manageable size on par with the size of a consideration set formed by low-indecisiveness individuals without elevating the level of perceived difficulty. The current research contributes to the stream of research on consideration set construction and indecisiveness, and offers useful practical implications for overcoming indecisiveness. Limitations and avenues for further research are also discussed.

Gray 사상을 이용한 이진 낮은 상관구역 수열군의 생성법 (Construction Method of Binary Low Correlation Zone Sequence Set Using Gray Mapping)

  • 본 논문에서는 이진 낮은 상관 구역 수열군의 새로운 생성법을 제안한다. 새로운 수열군은 Kim과 Jang, No, Chung이 제안한 4진 낮은 상관 구역 수열군에 Gray 사상을 적용하여 생성한다. 새로 생성된 이진 수열군의 주기는 생성에 사용한 4진 수열군의 주기의 2배이며, 낮은 상관구역 내 상관 값의 최대 크기 및 수열군의 크기는 생성에 사용한 수열군의 그것의 2배가 된다. 그러나 낮은 상관 구역의 크기는 그대로 유지된다. 생성에 사용한 4진 낮은 상관 구역 수열군의 최적인 경우 새로 생성된 이진 수열군은 높은 확률로 최적의 수열군이 된다.

  • The main components in the generalized Mandelbrot sets are under a theoretical investigation for their parametric boundary equations. Using the boundary geometries, a fast construction algorithm is introduced for the generalized Mandelbrot set. This fast algorithm definitely reduces the construction CPU time in comparison with the naive algorithm. Its graphic implementation displays the mysterious and beautiful fractal sets.

  • In spite of a construction of many set building, the government's set building policies being almost indifferent to the maintenance management of them. Currently the personnel is not enough for maintenance management in set building. Therefore many set building does not become accomplished appropriately. On this paper, the set building policies and a questionnaire are analyzed. The result of questionnaire provides fundamental data of proper staff calculation.

Forecasting Project Cost and Time using Fuzzy Set Theory and Contractors' Judgment

  • This paper presents a new method for forecasting construction project cost and time at completion or at any intermediate time horizon of the project duration. The method is designed to overcome identified limitations of current applications of earned value method in forecasting project cost and time. The proposed method usesfuzzy set theory to model uncertainties associated with project performance and it integrates the earned value technique and the contractors' judgement. The fuzzy set theory is applied as an alternative approach to deterministic and probabilistic methods. Using fuzzy set theory allows contractors to: (1) perform risk analysis for different scenarios of project performance indices, and (2) perform different scenarios expressing vagueness and imprecision of forecasted project cost and time using a set of measures and indices. Unlike the current applications of Earned Value Method(EVM), The proposed method has a numberof interesting features: (1) integrating contractors' judgement in forecasting project performance; (2) enabling contractors to evaluate the risk associated with cost overrun in much simpler method comparing with that of simulation, and (3) accounting for uncertainties involved in the forecasting project cost.

  • A parametric boundary equation is established for the principal period-2 bulb in the cubic Mandelbrot set. Using its geometry, an efficient escape-time algorithm which reduces the construction time for the period-2 bulbs in the cubic Mandelbrot set is introduced and the implementation graphic results display the fascinating fractal beauty.

A Novel Reversible Data Hiding Scheme for VQ-Compressed Images Using Index Set Construction Strategy

  • In this paper, we propose a novel reversible data hiding scheme in the index tables of the vector quantization (VQ) compressed images based on index set construction strategy. On the sender side, three index sets are constructed, in which the first set and the second set include the indices with greater and less occurrence numbers in the given VQ index table, respectively. The index values in the index table belonging to the second set are added with prefixes from the third set to eliminate the collision with the two derived mapping sets of the first set, and this operation of adding prefixes has data hiding capability additionally. The main data embedding procedure can be achieved easily by mapping the index values in the first set to the corresponding values in the two derived mapping sets. The same three index sets reconstructed on the receiver side ensure the correctness of secret data extraction and the lossless recovery of index table. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

건설CALS 표준화 체계 정립에 관한 기초적 연구 (A Study on Establishment of Construction CALS Standardization system)

  • This paper presents a fundamental study to establish a standardization system of the Construction Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support(CALS). A state of the art in standardization of the Construction CALS is reviewed to find some defects in developing CALS system in construction industry. It is analyzed that three major parts were needed to set up a standardization system for the Construction CALS. Firstly, the range of Construction CALS standardization is set up to identifying Construction CALS and defining the standards and standardization. Secondly, the strategy to carry out more effectively in Construction CALS standardization and make the relationship of the concerned system presented here can be used to establish the Construction CALS standardization system. In addition, the spread and application device are proposed to use Construction CALS standards at public institution and construction related companies. Conclusively, a classification of the Construction CALS standards was proposed and some objects to be standardized were represented in that. Results studied in this paper will provide the primary information and basic model to develop a guideline for standardization of the Construction CALS.

  • PSC box bridge by MSS construction method may not be set at cross section at one step. Web and bottom flange(U member) would be set at first, top flange will be set later with a time lag. In this case, U member and top flange concrete have different strain history. As two different aged section behaves as the composite section, there would happen the redistribution of stress. This is come from time-dependent strain characteristics of concrete itself. In this study, two models are considered, one with considering the set time of cross section and the other without. By performing longitudinal analysis of two models on considering construction stage, the stress differences of two are compared. As the analysis results show a considerable differences in the stresses of cross section between two models, the set time of cross section is needed for rational design f PSC box girder bridge.

Construction of Time - Cost Model for Building Projects in Vietnam

  • Bromilow's time-cost (BTC) relationship was examined for building projects in Vietnam using actual construction time and total construction cost. Data set was collected from 77 historical building construction projects completed between 1999 and 2005 which were adjusted by consumer price index (CPI) to 2000 price. Time-cost equations were specified respected to two sectors, public and private, in Vietnamese construction industry and all cases. It is shown that a public funded building project has the longer construction duration than a similar budget private funded project. The resulting models are statistically significant. The adjusted R-square coefficients of all cases, public and private projects models are respectively 0.403, 0.436 and 0.377 mean that the BTC regression lines moderately fit the data set.
