  • In this paper, a fairness scheme is proposed that assigns different number of HS-PDSCH to the service user according to the received SIR of CPICH. Assigned channel number is determined by the SIR level. The highest SIR user gets the number of channels based on the SIR table and the remained channels are assigned to the other SIR users. This scheme can serve the similar maximum service throughput and higher fairness than MAX CIR packet scheduling algorithm. This scheme can also serve the higher service throughput than Proportional Fairness scheme.

  • The development of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks(WMSNs) is getting realized in accordance with the increased demands to provide multimedia data transmission service such as CCTV movie, image chapter information, audio information based on wireless sensor network. It is very important to provide the differentiated quality assurance of service. In this paper, we propose a sensor medium access control protocol based on DSMAC, which provides differentiated Quality of Service(QoS) for delay. A proposed protocol is able to reduce the delay without increasing the energy consumption by adaptively changing the duty cycle according to the buffer occupancy. Simulation results show that the new MAC protocol performs better in terms of latency than S-MAC and DSMAC.

  • Distributed congestion control (DCC) is a technology that mitigates channel congestion and improves communication performance in high-density vehicular networks. Traditional DCC techniques operate to reduce channel congestion without considering quality of service (QoS) requirements. Such design of DCC algorithms can lead to excessive DCC actions, potentially degrading other aspects of QoS. To address this issue, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based QoS-adaptive DCC algorithm. The simulation was conducted using a quasi-real environment simulator, generating dynamic vehicular densities for evaluation. The simulation results indicate that our proposed DCC algorithm achieves results closer to the targeted QoS compared to existing DCC algorithms.

  • For multimedia traffics to be supported successfully in wireless network environment, it is necessary to provide Qualify-of-Service(QoS) guarantees among mobile hosts(clients). In order to guarantee the QoS, we have to keep the call blocking probability below a target value during hand-off session. However, the QoS negotiated between the client and the network may not be guaranteed due to lack of available channels for traffic of a new cell, since on service mobile clients should be able to continue their sessions. In this paper, we propose an efficient load-balancing algorithm based on the adaptive bandwidth reservation scheme for enlarging available channels in a cell. Proposed algorithm predicts the direction of clients in a cell and adjusts the amount of the channel to be reserved according to the load status of the cell. This method is used to reserve a part of bandwidths of a cell for hand-off calls to its adjacent cells and this reserved bandwidth can be used for hand-off call prior to new connection requests. If the number of free channels is also under a low threshold value, our scheme use a load-balancing algorithm with an adaptive bandwidth reservation. In order to evaluate the performance of our algorithm, we measure metrics such as the blocking probability of new calls and dropping probability of hand-off calls, and compare with those of existing schemes.

  • The purpose of this research is to accurately estimate the location of a device using the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of IEEE 802.11 WLAN for location tracking in indoor environments. For the location estimation method, we adopted the calibration model. By applying the Adaptive Zone Based K-NNSS (AZ-NNSS) algorithm, which considers the velocity of devices, this paper presents a 9% improvement of accuracy compared to the existing K-NNSS-based research, with 37% of the K-NNSS computation load. The accuracy is further enhanced by using a Kalman filter; the improvement was about 24%. This research also shows the level of accuracy that can be achieved by replacing a subset of the calibration data with values computed by a numerical equation, and suggests a reasonable number of calibration points. In addition, we use both the mean error distance (MED) and hit ratio to evaluate the accuracy of location estimation, while avoiding a biased comparison.

  • In this paper, a multiaccess network protocol for high-speed communication is proposed, which enables multimedia sevices with integrating the existing networks. We examine the traffic control mechanisms and configurations for the network architecture and compare with various protocols which are suitable to high speed LAN/MAN and propose an adaptive access control mechanism. ATMR has low channel utilization due to window size reset time, and that MetaRing is very sensitive over the change of traffic load. This suggested protocol, however, has quite a good performance for that situation by adding adaptive parameter condition. This mechanism may introduce a model of small-scaled Broadband Integrated Service Network and be used as an internetworking system for the ATM network.

  • In this paper, we propose an evenly distributed mesh scheme to support services in mobile ad-hoc networks. Two strategies, the adaptive upgrading of forwarding nodes and the adaptive downgrading of forwarding nodes, are presented in the scheme. Our proposed scheme can support construction of better multicast mesh that can give higher packet delivery ratio with lower duplicate data as well as solve the problem of serious congestion especially when node mobility and data transmission rate are high in mobile ad-hoc networks. The performance evaluation is performed via simulation using OPNET.

  • This paper, at first, provides analysis on loss pattern of Internet based on real experiments of the current Internet. Then, we propose an effective adaptive QoS management technique, in which measured loss pattern as well as PLR (Packet Loss Ratio) are used to select titrate of temporal scalability. level of FEC and retransmission This selection is also incorporated to the MPEG-4 error resilience tools and error concealment techniques. In order to minimize effect of packet loss, multimedia stream is segmented in the unit of group of Pictures (GOP) and interleaving and FEC are applied to the segment. Proposed algorithms are applied to build a VOD system.

  • Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques have been adopted to overcome packet losses and to improve the quality of video delivery. The efficiency of the FEC has been significantly compromised, however, due to the characteristics of the wireless channel such as burst packet loss, channel fluctuation and lack of Quality of Service (QoS) support. We propose herein an Adaptive Cross-layer FEC mechanism (ACFEC) to enhance the quality of video streaming over 802.11 WLANs. Under the conventional approaches, FEC functions are implemented on the application layer, and required feedback information to calculate redundancy rates. Our proposed ACFEC mechanism, however, leverages the functionalities of different network layers. The Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) function on the Media Access Control (MAC) layer can detect packet losses. Through cooperation with the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), the redundancy rates are adaptively controlled based on the packet loss information. The experiment results demonstrate that the ACFEC mechanism is able to adaptively adjust and control the redundancy rates and, thereby, to overcome both of temporary and persistent channel fluctuations. Consequently, the proposed mechanism, under various network conditions, performs better in recovery than the conventional methods, while generating a much less volume of redundant traffic.
