In recent decades, microscopic simulation models have become powerful tools to analyze traffic flow on highways and to assist the investigation of level of service. The existing microscopic simulation models simulate an individual vehicle's speed based on a constant free-flow speed dominantly specified by users and driver's behavior models reflecting vehicle interactions, such as car following and lane changing. They set a single free-flow speed for a single vehicle on a given link and neglect to consider the effects of highway design elements to it in their internal simulation. Due to this, the existing models are limitted to provide with identical simulation results on both curved and tangent sections of highways. This paper presents a model developed to estimate the change of free-flow speeds based on highway design elements. Nine neural network models were trained based on the field data collected from seven different freeway curve sections and three different locations at each section to capture the percent changes of free-flow speeds: 100 m upstream of the point of curve (PC) and the middle of the curve. The model employing seven highway design elements as its input variables was selected as the best : radius of curve, length of curve, superelevation, the number of lanes, grade variations, and the approaching free-flow speed on 100 m upstream of PC. Tests showed that the free-flow speeds estimated by the proposed model were statistically identical to the ones from the field at 95% confidence level at each three different locations described above. The root mean square errors at the starting and the middle of curve section were 6.68 and 10.06, and the R-squares at these points were 0.77 and 0.65, respectively. It was concluded from the study that the proposed model would be one of the potential tools introducing the effects of highway design elements to free-flow speeds in simulation.

This paper is to study the examples for rubber damage and weaken reliability of timing belt, constant velocity joint boot and weather strip in vehicle. The first example, when the service man replaced the new timing-belt of rubber material, he assembled the belt that was weaken it's contact surface because of material transform. He knew the abnormally tearing failure by friction action between belt and sprocket. The second example, it certified the fact that the grease is leaked out boot protecting of constant velocity joint by split of rubber surface because of durability badness. The third example, the weather stripe took the minutely tearing because of damage produced the material transform by crack of chemistry change. It certified the production phenomenon of a tiny noise by coming with outside air because of overlapped the rubber of weather stripe when driving after closing the door. Therefore, the driver must always manage the rubber system part of vehicle.

RFID technology uses communication through the use of radio waves to transfer data between a reader and an electronic tag attached to an object for the purpose of identification and tracking. RFID technology can be applied to the various service areas such as, position determination technology, remote processing management and information exchange between objects by collecting, storing, processing, and tracing their informations from the tag attached to the objects using electronic wave by recognizing the information and environment of those objects. However, to revitalize these various services, it is important to test the RFID tag performance. But There are few instructions which have and hold the RFID emulator technology for organizing the RFID international test environment. Also there are not many manufacturing companies which recognize about the exact RFID test standard and requirements for the International Standards. In this paper, a construction of Tag Performance test environments and test methods are suggested which are required by EPCglobal or ISO/IEC. Details about RFID Tag performance test items proposed by ISO/IEC FDIS 18046-3 are explained, performed RFID Tag performance test through the performing test against each measured item, and draw a result for the RFID Tag performance of International Standards.
Korea government has established and pursued green technology development strategy as the core of green growth, for example, withdrawal of 27 key green technologies through 'green technology research and development comprehensive plan ('09.1)' since 'low carbon green growth' was proposed as a new national development paradigm. In this study, we performed the Delphi survey of technology levels of 131 strategic product and service technologies derived from 27 key green technologies, utilizing large-scale group of green technology experts. The survey of technology level among main five nations resulted in the world's leading nation (US) versus EU (99.4%), Japan (95.3%), Korea (77.7%), China (67.1%) and Korea was ranked fourth. The technology gap between the world's leading nation (US) and Korea is 4.1 years behind EU (3.9 years) and Japan(3.1 years), but 2.1 years earlier than China. For our nation, key green technologies with high technology level are 'improved light water reactor (90.1%)', 'silicon-based solar cell (85.0%)', 'high-efficiency low-emission car (84.5%)' in order. Depending on the investment type of key green technologies, technology level is represented as short-term (85.0%), mid-term (77.3%) and long-term (71.1%) in order, indicating that lower technology level requires mid-to long-term investment and that the investment type is set appropriate.
The compact city usually provides good accessibility of residents with multiple transportation modes. However, in a compact city, annual average of travel distance per household by car is relatively short due to more congested traffic condition and larger travel cost than disperse city. As a result, total travel demand is decreasing when the region becomes more compact. Therefore compact development is regarded as one of the sustainable choices for future urban planning in many countries. This study aims at an empirical analysis of the relationship between urban compactness and travel demand based upon land-use and travel data for city of Seoul. In this study, 424 sub-districts with the mixed land-use patterns are assessed in a hexagonal diagram. The measurement is based on the relative deviation of each sector's characteristics including numbers of residence, manufacture, and trade & service. Multiple linear regression models are developed to analyze the effects of urban compactness on zonal trip generations. As a result, the trip generation rate in the residence-intensive and mixed-use areas is found to be relatively low. Furthermore, residents in high-compact areas tend to use public transport more often than residents in less compact areas.
With dramatic development of IT technology and start of DMB service, installing the DMB equipment in a vehicle for watching TV programs and literal or pictorial traffic information are increasing. Watching the DMB during driving the vehicle could cause visual and cognitive distraction to drivers as much as eating food, operating radio and using mobile phone. However, there is not much empirical research for this topic and no research examined the effect of watching the DMB on driving behaviors in Korea. So, the present study examined the effect of watching the DMB on the driving behaviors with car simulator experiment. Within subject design was used in the study. That is, all subjects drove the vehicle both in the watching DMB condition and the non-watching DMB condition. The results indicated that subjects in the watching DMB condition took longer time to arrive at the destination and operated accelerator and brake pedal rapidly than subjects in the non-watching DMB condition. That is, their overall driving stability was lower than non-watching subjects'. Additionally, we examined the difference among the DMB control conditions (i.e., keypad condition, touch-pad condition and remote controller condition) in the driving behaviors. Finally, we discussed the limitations and the implications of the present study.

Due to the introduction of various IT devices, including the recently smartphones and the widespread use of the car navigation system to the location-based information service space has been increased. Spatial information users have been requiring higher levels of quality. In this paper, we study how to build accurate three-dimensional space information by integrating MMS(Moblie Mapping System) survey and airborne survey data. Thus, to analyze the tendency of deviation between the MMS survey and airborne survey data observed in the experimental region, the deviation tendency of the data, it was confirmed that was not consistent. Deviation correction model to select how to change the georeferencing information directly contained in the GPS/INS processing results for the determination, classifies the standard is a method for acquiring the correction reference point coordinates using the calibration model, and analyzed their advantages and disadvantages. With the information of the reference point obtained by airborne photograph of a project, using the method of correcting the MMS survey data. Not only clear the deviation existing between the MMS survey data, it was possible to confirm that the deviation exists between the airborne survey data and MMS survey data was also almost erased.

This study aims to compare and analyze the quality of life of residents between those living in coastal and non-coastal areas. The indicators for the quality of life were divided into three different sectors. First, the economic sector observed the rate of population growth, the number of businesses per 1000 people, the employment and unemployment rate. The second was the environmental sector, which included the number of car registrations per capita, water supply and sewer service ratio, the urban park composition area per 1000 people and the road pavement rate. Thirdly, the social sector comprising data about the number of students per teacher, the number of sickbeds in medical institutions per 1000 people, the rate of traffic accidents per 1000 cars and the portion of social welfare budget in general accounting. The analysis method of standardized indicators and T-Test were carried out in 24 coastal cities and 51 non-coastal cities across the country. Results of the indicator comparison suggested there were significant differences in the number of businesses per 1000 people, the road pavement rate and the rate of traffic accidents per 1000 cars. From the results of each sector comparison, the coastal cities showed a higher value than non-coastal cities only in the economic sector. The quality of life comparison showed that coastal cities were better than non-coastal cities but were not statistically significant.
The purpose of this study was to draw out success factors of port operation for New International Passenger Terminal(NIPT) in Incheon Port using the fuzzy method. In this study, the success factors of port operation were firstly selected by literature review and finally adopted them by in-depth interview with experts who had working experiences over 15 years in the field of Korea-China Carferry shipping business and stevedoring business. Success factors of port operation of the NIPT have been classified into four principal factors such as 'land's use side', 'productivity side', 'cost side' and 'services side', and the comparative analysis was conducted among success factors of port operation. According to the results of analysis, in terms of "land's use side", securing CY space of full-empty containers(0.857) was the most important factor. Among detailed factors of "productivity side", building terminal automation system(0.806) was significantly needed. In the factors of "cost side" and "service side", land rental costs(0.861) and schedule management of berth operation(0.798) were selected as the most important factors. Consequently, new international passenger terminal has implications that the main port operations should focus on reasonable rents calculation, ensuring proper space of CY, and building automation system of terminal, There is a need to proceed to conduct a comparative study of the same operating mode of an international passenger terminal.
Lip-reading technique based on bimodal is to enhance speech recognition rate in noisy environment. It is most important to detect the correct lip-image. But it is hard to estimate stable performance in dynamic environment, because of many factors to deteriorate Lip-reading's performance. There are illumination change, speaker's pronunciation habit, versatility of lips shape and rotation or size change of lips etc. In this paper, we propose the IIR filtering in time-domain for the stable performance. It is very proper to remove the noise of speech, to enhance performance of recognition by digital filtering in time domain. While the lip-reading technique in whole lip image makes data massive, the Principal Component Analysis of pre-process allows to reduce the data quantify by detection of feature without loss of image information. For the observation performance of speech recognition using only image information, we made an experiment on recognition after choosing 22 words in available car service. We used Hidden Markov Model by speech recognition algorithm to compare this words' recognition performance. As a result, while the recognition rate of lip-reading using PCA is 64%, Time-domain filter applied to lip-reading enhances recognition rate of 72.4%.
