  • Recently, a new periodic cellular metal(PCM) named as Wire wove Bulk Kagome(WBK) was introduced. Based on the shape of tetrahedra composing a WBK, WBKs are classified into two types, namely, concave and convex type. They are easily differentiated by changing the assembling sequence. The effect of geometrical parameters such as the wire diameter, strut length and number of layers on the compressive behavior of concave type WBK has already been investigated. In this work, the similar works were performed with the convex type WBKs. It was shown that the compressive strength of the convex type WBK was quite similar to that of the concave type. The compressive strengths of convex type specimens also depend on the slenderness ratio, but a little different from those of concave type specimens in the detailed behavior. And densification occurs earlier than the concave type WBK.

  • In this paper, we proposed DC term embedding digital watermarking in the DCT domain. We computed a 8${\times}$8 block DCT The watermark signal is composed of a random number sequence of length 1000, which obeys normal distribution with zero mean and unit variance N(0,1). We embedded watermark signal in DC term for small watermark signal, the other watermark signal embedded in the largest AC coefficients. Experiment show that the invisibility and robust of the proposed method better than those of the conventional methods.

  • Seventeen haplotypes were detected from the complete mitochondrial DNA control region sequences analyzed from eighty individuals of two Tibetan domestic sheep breeds. The nucleotide composition of all the sequences was 33.0% A, 29.7%T, 22.9%C and 14.4%G; G+C was 37.3%. The length of the sequences ranged from 1,107 bp to 1,259 bp. The difference between them was primarily due to 3-5 copy numbers of a 75 bp tandem repeat sequence. The NJ phylogenetic tree (the number of replications of bootstrap test is 1,000) presented three major domestic sheep lineages, which suggested that modern Tibetan sheep breeds are derived from three maternal sources.

  • It is common to install multiple lines in the same route. Recently, excessive sheath circulating current was partially measured in underground cable systems of KEPCO. Especially, the installation type, unbalance section length between joint boxes and zero sequence current by distribution cable have an effect on the rising of sheath circulating current in the underground transmission system. If excessive current flows in sheath, sheath loss which is reduced the transmission capacity is produced. This paper describes the relation analysis of sheath circulating current and burying types. And also, a detailed analysis on rising cause and characteristic of sheath circulating current by considering various unbalanced conditions presents using analysis and measurement regarding cable systems which have the problem of excessive sheath circulation current.

  • In this study, a peripheral auditory model is used as a frequency feature extractor and a recurrent network which has recurrent links on input nodes is constructed in order to show the reliability of the recurrent network as a recognizer by executing recognition tests for 4 Korean place names and syllables. In the case of using the general learning rule, it is found that the weights are diverged for a long sequence because of the characteristics of the node function in the hidden and output layers. So, a refined weight compensation method is proposed and, using this method, it is possible to improve the system operation and to use long data. The recognition results are considerably good, even if time worping and endpoint detection are omitted and learning patterns and test patterns are made of average length of data. The recurrent network used in this study reflects well time information of temporal speech signal.

  • DNA amplification by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to specifically detect Plasmodiophora brassicae, causing clubroot of crucifers. On the basis of DNA sequence informations, an oligonucleotide primer set specific for the pathogen was designed form small subunit gene (18S-like) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA. Primer ITS 5/PB-C produced an amplification product of approximately 520 bp in length with DNA from P. brassicae. However, no amplification product was produced with DNAs from several soil-borne fungi, Didymella bryoniae and Rhizopus stolonifer. Using these primers, the clubroot pathogen was readily detected from infected roots of crucifers, but not from healthy roots. Southern hybridization analysis further confirmed that the amplification product was originated from P. brassicae.

  • Euryalid specimens were collected from Gonghyeonjin and Daejin, Gangwon-do in the East Sea, Korea at a depth of 250-300 m by fishing nets on November 2013 and August 2014. They were identified as Gorgonocephalus arcticus Leach, 1819 belonging to family Gorgonocephalidae of order Euryalida, which was new to the Korean fauna. Nucleotide sequences of partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (mt-COI) gene, which was 569 bp in length, were compared among four Gorgonocephalus species, and were subsequently employed to reconstruct phylogenetic trees using the MP, ML, and BI methods. As a result, no sequence difference was found between the G. arcticus mt-COI gene sequences from Korea and Canada, and the two made a strong monophyletic group. With the newly recorded G. arcticus in Korea, in total, four Gorgonocephalus species have been reported in Korea.

  • To estimate genetic relationships within the genus Rhizopus, genetic variations in 20 strains were investigated by DGGE and PCR-RFLP of rDNA ITS region (ITSI, ITS2,5.8S). The size of the amplified products showed the interspecific polymorphisms, 650 bp,700 bp, and 900 bp. The DGGE approach allowed the separation of PCR amplicons of the same length according to their sequence variations. When the rDNA ITS region was digested with six restriction enzymes, 20 strains were classified into five RFLP haplotypes. The range of similarity between the 20 strains by PCR-RFLP was 42.3-100%. Based on the results of DGGE aud PCR-RFLP, the 20 strains were divided into four groups, R. oryzae, R. stolonifer, R. microsporus and R. homothallicus. Further study of R. homothallicus is required.
