It is necessary to estimate the groundwater recharge rate properly to evaluate the reasonable development amount of groundwater in a specific site. A small basin in Wicheon River Basin located in the Province of Kyungsangbuk-Do is selected to calculate the groundwater recharge rate. Average annual groundwater recharge rates are calculated from 1992 to 1997 because wet and draught year are contained during this period. In the calculation, baseflow separation method and SCS-CN method are applied to this area. As a result of estimation by baseflow separation method, the value of groundwater recharge ratio is varied between 11.9% and 18.7%. The average annual recharge rate is 14.5%. The average annual recharge rate calculated by SCS-CN method is varied between 7.9% and 20.9%. The average annual recharge rate in the calculation period is 15.1%. The results show that the average annual recharge amount from infiltration in the study basin is 141.6mm and 147.4mm in each estimation method. It appears that the average annual recharge amount calculated for the long period containing wet and draught year by the two methods is useful for groundwater development.

Separation/recovery of valuable metals such as zinc, nickel or tin from copper alloy dross has recently attracted from the viewpoints of environmental protection and resource recycling. In this study, preliminary investigation on separation of tin (Sn) from copper alloy dross using selective dissolution method was performed. The tin in the copper alloy dross did not dissolve in an aqueous nitric acid solution which could allow the concentration/separation of tin from the copper alloy dross. Precipitation of tin as $H_2SnO_3$ (meta stannic acid)occurred in the solution and transformed to tin dioxide ($SnO_2$) after drying process. The dried sample was heat-treated at low temperature and its crystal structure, surface morphology and chemical composition were investigated.

We present a top down separation platform for yeast ribosomal proteins using affinity chromatography and capillary electrophoresis which is designed to allow deposition of proteins onto a substrate. FLAG tagged ribosomes were affinity purified, and rRNA acid precipitation was performed on the ribosomes followed by capillary electrophoresis to separate the ribosomal proteins. Over 26 peaks were detected with excellent reproducibility (<0.5% RSD migration time). This is the first reported separation of eukaryotic ribosomal proteins using capillary electrophoresis. The two stages in this workflow, affinity chromatography and capillary electrophoresis, share the advantages that they are fast, flexible and have small sample requirements in comparison to more commonly used techniques. This method is a remarkably quick route from cell to separation that has the potential to be coupled to high throughput readout platforms for studies of the ribosomal proteome.
Magnetic-graphene nanosheets have been synthesized via a simple effective chemical precipitation method followed by heat treatment. The composite nanosheets are super paramagnetic at room temperature and can be separated by an external magnetic field. The prepared magnetic-graphene nanosheets were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and BET surface area analysis. The results demonstrated the successful attachment of iron oxide nanoparticles to graphene nanosheets. It was found that the attached nanoparticles were mainly $Fe_3O_4$. The magnetic-graphene nanosheets showed near complete methyl orange removal within 10 mintues and would be practically usable for methyl orange separation from water.
A method was developed for the separation of titanium, niobium and zirconium together in a group from the coexisting ions of various metals such as iron, cobalt, nickel, yttrium and rare earths by means of the cation exchange column using ${\alpha}$-hydroxyisobutyric acid as the eluent. In the course of the present investigation, it was found that the tailing phenomena of zirconium were attributable to the hydroxide precipitation which was made prior to the elution. For example, if zirconium was precipitated by sodium hydroxide, the tailing of zirconium became very serious in contrast to the results reported by others. This paper describes how these tailing phenomena of zirconium were prevented and how a practical procedure for the separation of these ions was, achieved using ion-exchange method. Using the present method the nuclides of $^{90m}Y$ and $^{90}Y$ were separated with radiochemical purity from the irradiated zirconium.
The analysis of 41Ca in concrete generated from the nuclear facilities decommissioning is critical for ensuring the safe management of radioactive waste. An analytical method for the determination of 41Ca in concrete is described. 41Ca is a neutron-activated long radionuclide, and hence, for accurate analysis, it is necessary to completely extract Ca from the concrete sample where it exists as the predominant element. The decomposition methods employed were the acid leaching, microwave digestion, and alkali fusion. A comparison of the results indicated that the alkali fusion is the most suitable way for the separation of Ca from the concrete sample. Several processes of hydroxide and carbonate precipitation were employed to separate 41Ca from interferences. The method relies on the differences in the solubility of the generated products. The behavior of Ca and the interfering elements such as Fe, Ni, Co, Eu, Ba, and Sr is examined at each separation step. The purified 41Ca was measured by a liquid scintillation counter, and the quench curve and counting efficiency were determined by using a certified reference material of known 41Ca activity. The recoveries in this study ranged from 56 to 68%, and the minimum detectable activity was 50 mBq g-1 with 0.5 g of concrete sample.

The objective of this study is to develop a method to reduce arsenic concentrations in contaminated water. This work is also aimed at increasing the specificity of membrane separation processes. Arsenic in contaminated waters is often present in the form of negatively charged oxyanions. These are relatively small molecules which cannot be separated directly by ultrafiltration. Oxyanions can be captured by polyelectrolytes and separated by ultrafiltration. Results will be presented on the use of two polyelectrolytes; polyethylenimine (PEI) and poly-diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC) at various feed concentrations. A semi-continuous process utilizing PEI in a circulation loop was tested. The restfits indicate that better than 99.6 % recovery (permeate concentration < 0.001 $\mu$g/L) can be achieved based on an initial arsenic concentration of 300 $\mu$g/L. The results indicate that this treatment method is suitable as a main treatment process for drinking water or a polishing step after arsenic precipitation.
Recent advances in recombinant DNA technology have resulted in development of many new protein drugs. Due to the unique properties of protein druges, they have to be delivered by parenteral injection Although delivery of protein drugs by other routes, such as pulmonary and nasal routes, has shown some promises, to date most protein drugs are administered by par-enteral routs. For long-term delivery of protein drugs by parenteral administration, they have been formulated into biodegradable microspheres. A number of microencapsulation methods have been developed, and the currently used microencapsulation methods are reviewed here, The microen-capsulation methods have been divided based on the method used. They are: solvent evapora-tion/extraction; phase separation (coacervation);spray drying; ionotropic gelation/polyelectrolyte complexation; interfacial polyumerization and supercritical fluid precipitation. Each method is de-scribed fro its applications, advantages, and limitations.
In order to separate Indium and Tin from spent indium tin oxide (ITO) sludge, direct hydrochloric acid leaching and thermal reduction followed by HCl leaching were applied. In case of direct leaching of spent ITO, leaching rate of In and Sn was 18.5% and 19.95%, respectively. Whereas, in case of thermal hydrogen treatment of ITO sludge at different temperatures such as $700^{\circ}C$, $800^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$, followed by HCl leaching, we obtained the result of more than 97% leaching rate of Sn. Specially, thermal treatment at $800^{\circ}C$ showed the highest leaching rate of 98.2% of Sn. Precipitation method was used for separation and recovery of Sn from leached mixed solution. If the solution pH were adjusted 2.0, 99.69% of Sn precipitated and 10.3% of In was precipitated. This confirmed the possibility of separation of Sn and In from leached solution by precipitation method.

The probabilistic model was developed to give a spatial simlation of precipitation series to solve the problem of future need of water resources. The simulation of daily precipitation series at the sub-base stations was induced from the spatial structure of rainfall occurrence probability between the base station and the sub-base stations in the watershed. In this study Hadong was chosen as the base station in Seomjin river basin and Imsil, Boseong, Soonchang, Dongbok, and Gurye were also selected as the sub-base stations. The results of this study are as follows; 1) The separation technique of spatial precipitation state showed effectiveness in the spatial simulation method because the occurrence probability by each precipitation state (Wet-Wet, Dry-Wet, Wet-Dry, and Dry- Dry system) represented the stable value. 2) The daily precipitation series of the sub-base stations which were simulated from those of the base station showed that the simulated annual mean precipitations were similar to the observed data, but the precipitations in summer were decreased slightly. 3) The correlogram and power spectrum of the simulated monthly precipitation for the sub-base stations showed those of the observed sample with good agreement.
