  • We have adopted the strain compensated PBH(planar buried heterostructure) - LD in which the MQW active layer consisted of 1.4% compressively strained GainAsP (E$_{g}$ = 0.905eV) wells and 0.7% tensile strained GaInAsP(E$_{g}$ = 1.107eV) barriers grown by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). We hav einvestigated effects of number of wells and the structure of the separate confinement heterostructure (SCH) layer in the strain-compensated MQW-PBH-LD. The threshold current, the external quantum efficiency, the transparency current density J$_{o}$, and the gain constant .beta. have been evaluated for uncoated MQW-PBH-LD. As the number of wells increases, the internal quantum efficiency and the transparency current density decreases, whereas the gain contant increases. The small width of the SCH layer shows the large internal quantum efficiency. The small internal loss and the large gain constant have been obtained by inserting the large bandgap SCH layer.

  • In a SCH(separate confinement heterostructure) QW(quantum well) laser, we calculated the optical gain, the differential gain and recombination current in the QW and derived the bulk carrier density in the SCH region as a function of the QW current by using the analytical capture escape model. Based upon above relations, we found the optical gain and the differential gain correspond to the ratios of carrier and current injected into the QW.

  • Digital microwave wideband receiver including linear amplifier, analog-to-digital converter(ADC) and digital signal processor is able to analyze its performance using sensitivity and dynamic range of system. Determination of gain, third-order intermodulation products and ADC characteristics and design criteria for the linear amplifier chain is essential problem for sensitive and dynamic range. Also, if there are two signals with frequencies very close, digital signal processor must be able to separate the two signals. In this paper, we measured dynamic range as gain was changed and determined gain value for the proper sensitivity and dynamic range and high resolution spectrum estimation was used to separate two close signals.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the dynamic behavior of turbo pump unit. The acceptable separate margin of 1st critical speed was obtained by the use of elastic-ring inserted ball bearing, while the poor separate margin of 1$\^$st/ critical speed was appeared in the case without the elastic-ring. In addition, the results show that the stiffness and damping of plain seals gain more separate margin of 2nd critical speed. However the wear or the failure of seals could reduce the 2$\^$nd/ critical speeds near the operating speed.

  • Purified diets containing five graded levels of tryptophan were fed to growing chicks to evaluate tryptophan requirements for growth and maintenance. A model was developed to separate tryptophan requirement for maintenance from requirement for growth. From this model, the daily tryptophan requirement for growth was 2.16 mg/g gain, and the daily requirement for maintenance 0.029 times metabolic body size ($Wg^{0.75}$). Based on nitrogen gain response, the tryptophan requirement for growth was 0.078 mg/mg N gain, and the daily maintenance requirement was 0.029 times metabolic body size. The total tryptophan requirements were 71.56 mg/day or 0.173% of the diet, 69.48 mg/day or 0.168% of the diet based on the weight gain response and nitrogen gain response, respectively. Previous tryptophan requirements for growing chicks aging 1-28 days are in close agreement with these estimates. Based on the relationship of weight gain and N gain, about 1.25% of the retained CP was consisted of tryptophan; the previously reported value of tryptophan content of chick muscle CP was 1.03%.

  • This experiment was carried out to examine the effects of urea-treated rice straw feeding on the growth performance of crossbred Holstein heifers under different feeding conditions. In the first experiment, the animals were given diets having 2 levels of TDN and CP and 3 levels of crude fiber (22, 30 and 36%) which were formulated with urea-treated rice straw and concentrates. Daily weight gain of heifers was not different between 22% and 30% CF diets, but the reduction of TDN or CP level to 90% of the requirements decreased the weight gain. Fiber content of 36% also reduced the body weight gain. The reduction of TDN significantly reduced DM intake and increased feed conversion ratio. Feed cost per kg weight gain was significantly increased by an increase in CF to 36%. In the second experiment, separate feeding and total mixing feeding were compared. There were no significant differences between the two feeding systems in body weight gain although the possibility of superiority in SF to TMF remained. DM intake was not affected by the feeding system, but 30% CF diet gave higher DM intake. Feed cost per kg weight gain was lower in the 30% CF diet.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate how evaluation of sales promotion is affected by consumer's perception on sale promotion tools(SP). Perception on SP is supposed to be classified into reduced loss and separate gain according to characteristics of SP, that are benefit realization period(immediate vs. remote), easy to calculate cash value(easy vs. difficult), and purchase occasion(concurrent vs. different). Hypothesis testing using ANOVA and structural equation model about data that is collected from college students based on experimental design, reveals that immediate realization and easy calculation make SP tool perceived as reduced loss. And perception as reduced loss is more effective to be evaluated as high value and lead to purchase intention.

  • Purified diets containing five levels of methionine with 0.4% cystine were fed to growing chicks (8 days old male Arbor Acre strain) to evaluate methionine requirements for growth and maintenance. A model was developed to separate methionine requirement for maintenance from requirement for growth. From this model the daily methionine requirement for growth was 4.22 mg/g gain, and the daily methionine requirement for maintenance was 0.034 times metabolic body size ($W^{0.75}$). Based on nitrogen gain response, the methionine requirement for growth was 0.162 mg/mg N gain, and the daily maintenance requirement was 0.037 times metabolic body size. The plateau of plasma methionine concentration reached at 117.16 mg intake pre day. The total methionine requirement determined based on weight gain response was 138.29 mg/day or 0.33% of the diet and the one determined based on nitrogen gain response was 141.7 mg/day of 0.34% of the diet, respectively. As a percentage of protein, methionine was calculated to be 2.6%; the reported methionine content of carcass CP was 1.76%.

  • After extraction of tooth, alveolar ridge resorption is inevitable in most cases. Clinicians confront with horizontal and vertical resorption of alveolar bone. Without massive amount of bone and soft tissue graft, dental implant will be placed apically to gain stability. In those cases, not only white esthetic part, but also pink esthetic part should be restored with pink porcelain. The margin of prosthesis should be located apically to reproduce natural look with adjacent teeth. However, when the margin is located apically, it is always hard to remove remaining cement, thus complications may arise. In this report, a novel design of implant prosthesis is introduced to solve those issues. The novel design is consisted of zirconia framework with pink porcelain and separate crowns on top of the framework. It eliminates the possibility of cement remnants by bringing the crown margin coronally. Pink esthetic part is incorporated in abutment part instead of crown part and the screw hole is covered with separate crowns.

  • Angus postweaning daily gain (PWDG) were analyzed to investigate heterogeneous variance by sex. A set of data (16,239 records) was divided into six sub-data sets according to level of environment. REML estimation was conducted by a multitrait model, where PWDG in each sex was treated as a separate trait. Estimates showed diversity among environmental levels, where the heritability for heifers was high in good environment but low in poor environment. The bull's estimates varied among environmental levels. The largest heterogeneity of phenotypic variance between sexes was estimated in a data set of the poor environment level. The genetic correlations between the heifer's PWDG and the bull's PWDG were high in the good environment and low in the poor environment (-0.17). The results suggest existence of genotype by sex interaction in the poor environment.
