RELATIVISTIC INTERPLAY BETWEEN ADAPTIVE MOVEMENT AND MOBILITY ON BIODIVERSITY IN THE ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS GAME

  • Adaptive behaviors are one of ubiquitous features in evolutionary dynamics of populations, and certain adaptive behaviors can be witnessed by individuals' movements which are generally affected by local environments. In this paper, by revisiting the previous work, we investigate the sensitivity of species coexistence in the system of cyclic competition where species movement can be affected by local environments. By measuring the extinction probability through Monte-Carlo simulations, we find the relativistic effect of weights of local fitness and exchange rate for adaptive movement on species biodiversity which promotes species coexistence as the relativistic effect is intensified. In addition, by means of basins of initial conditions, we also found that adaptive movement can also affect species biodiversity with respect to the choice of initial conditions. The strong adaptive movement can eventually lead the coexistence as a globally stable state in the spatially extended system regardless of mobility.

  • In this study, we investigated microstructure and the CO gas sensing properties of Ag-CuO-$SnO_2$ thin films prepared by co-evaporation and subsequently thermal oxidation at air atmosphere. The sensitivity of a Cu-Sn films, thermally oxidized at $600^{\circ}C$, is strongly affected by the amount of Cu. At Cu:7 wt%-Sn:93 wt%, the film exhibited a maximum sensitivity of ${\sim}2.3$ to CO gas of 1000 ppm at $300^{\circ}C$. In contrast, the sensitivity of a Sn-Ag film did not change significantly with the amount of Ag. An enhanced sensitivity of ${\sim}3.7$ was observed in the film with a composition of Ag:3 wt%-Cu:4 wt%-Sn:93 wt%, when thermally oxidized at $600^{\circ}C$. In addition, this thin film shows a response time of ${\sim}80$ sec and a recovery time of ${\sim}450$ sec to 1000 ppm CO gas. The results demonstrate that the CO sensitivity of the Ag-CuO-$SnO_2$ thin films may be closely associated with coexistence of $SnO_2$ and SnO phase, decrease in average particle size, and a porous microstructure. We also suggest that co-evaporation and followed by thermal oxidation is a very simple and effective method to prepare oxide gas sensor thin films.

  • 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) is defining UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) releases which span the transition from GSM/UMTS coexistence to All-IP UMTS networks. The deployment of an UMTS network depends, in the first place, on the intended service offerings and the release an operator chooses to start service with. Other key decisions in-fluencing UMTS deployment relate to the timing of the functional enhancements and capacity increases along the economic life of the network. This paper gives an overview on the architectural and technical options for UMTS deployment. It also outlines the methodology underlying the business plan aimed at estimating the returns from investments in the UMTS infrastructure, thus helping to tune operators’ strategies for UMTS deployment.

현대 패션에 나타난 동양적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Oriental Spirit Detectable in Modern Fashion Style)

  • A midst the tendency in an attempt to rehabilitate the coexistence of values in Oriental and Western cultures, along with centripetal attention through reincarnation of the Oriental culture, the modem fashion trend is also inclusive of such Oriental flavors even in the opposite Western fashion icons with an outlook for futuristic alternative. In this regard the study is to investigate the Oriental Characteristics shown in the contemporary fashion in a more profound and right manner by evaluating its spirituality and formativeness through analytical survey on preliminary literatures, whose key words are as follows; Fist, heterogeneity inclusive of the Oriental comprehensiveness through non-periodic chaos; second, imperfection in pursue of perfection through non-perfection; third, asymmetry caused by polarized historicity together with agility in the Oriental costumes; fourth, simplicity bridging into religious naught, and; fifth, spatial comfortablity shrouded by loose design. As a result, the study demonstrates that Oriental sensitivity implicative at the modem fashion, prior to its formativeness, shed out a clue of the Oriental profound spirits in its fashion style.

위티 이히마에라의 『고래 타는 사람』에 그려진 신화적 경계 허물기와 귀향 (Crossing Mythical Boundaries and Homing in Witi Ihimaera's The Whale Rider)

  • This study explores Witi Ihimaera's The Whale Rider (1987) from ecological and postcolonial perspectives. Ihimaera is one of the prominent Maori writers who have critically voiced their concerns about the fragmentation of Maori tradition and the alienation of an environmentally friendly culture in New Zealand. Throughout the novel The Whale Rider, with his mythic imagination and cultural sensitivity, Ihimaera raises ecological awareness in terms of environmental justice and promotes critical consciousness regarding sociocultural and histo-political realities of the Maori people as alienated others in their ancestors' land. Revolving around the developmental process of a young Maori girl named after a mythical Maori ancestor Kahutia Te Rangi also known as the Whale Rider to inherit the Maori leadership, the novel describes the historical, cultural, emotional landscape of the Maori community in the white-centered society of New Zealand. In particular, this paper analyzes the leaving and homing process of narrator Rawiri which is deeply embedded in Maori myth and philosophy toward an eco-friendly culture and postcolonial reality. Indeed, Ihimaera skillfully juxtaposes young man Rawiri's experience outside the Maori community and young girl Kahu's life at the Maori home. In the end, while Kahu achieves her destiny in a mythical way to foster a new vision of harmonious co-existence that is rooted in Maori heritage and compatible with Western culture, Rawiri comes to understand the interrelatedness of all existence and embraces both the rational knowledge of scientific empiricism and the traditional knowledge of spiritual experiences. The novel The Whale Rider was also turned into a film by New Zealand's most influential female film director Niki Caro in 2002, and the film Whale Rider received international acclaim.

인간을 매혹한 감정 기계 (Emotional Machines That Attract Human)

  • 이 논문은 '감정 기계' 모티프를 설정함으로써, 우리 시대의 포스트 휴먼 현상이 매우 오래된 이야기 속 피조물들과 긴밀하게 연결되어 있으며, 인문학과 기술 문명, 동양과 서양의 문화적 역사적 경계를 넘어서 공유되는 인류의 보편적이면서도 지적인 상상력에 기반하고 있음에 주목했다. 신화 속 이야기에 등장하는 인간을 닮은 피조물들, 기술 문명 시대의 정교한 기계 장치를 통해 공포와 두려움을 불러일으켰던 기계 인간들, 디지털 기술 혁명 속에서 초월적인 형상과 능력을 갖게 된 포스트 휴먼들을 살펴봄으로써, 각각의 시대에 감정기계에 느꼈던 감수성과 인간다움의 조건을 밝히고자 했다. 그 과정에서 인간과 자연, 기계의 경계가 모호함을 이해하고, 인간중심적 인문학의 한계를 넘어, 21세기 포스트휴먼 시대 인간과 자연, 기계의 공존에 대해 음미해 보았다.

빅 데이터를 활용한 대학의 지역·권역별 학과의 미충원 파급구조 연구: 패널회귀모형과 토빗회귀모형의 응용을 중심으로 (A Study on the Dissemination Structure of Unfilled Positions in Universities Across the Country using Big Data: Using Panel and Tobit Regression Model)

  • This study observes the difference in the actual regional ripple effect of the decrease in admission resources due to the decrease in school age population, which has been weak in empirical studies, and how much the decrease in competition rate by department nationwide provides a significant shock to the decrease in enrollment rate in the population unit. An empirical quantitative analysis was attempted. As a result of applying the panel-tobit regression model, a clear gap was confirmed in the decrease in the registration rate due to the decrease in the competition rate both nationally and in the provinces, and in particular, a highly significant relationship was derived with the decrease in the recruitment rate. In particular, the sensitivity of the risk of unrecruitment due to a decrease in competition rate was the highest in the Jeolla region (0.499), followed by the Gangwon region (0.475) and the Gyeongsang region (0.471), and the metropolitan region (0.158) was confirmed to be the most stable. This suggests that the gap in insufficient funding has gradually widened by region over the past 10 years, and that the shock wave becomes more pronounced in the provinces farther away from the metropolitan area. Based on this study, if we deviate from the standardized application of university development policies for the metropolitan area and regional universities, and present a customized higher education strategy for each region, it will be an opportunity to prevent local extinction due to a decrease in the school-age population and achieve coexistence with higher education institutions and regions at the same time.

만화영화 <월-이(Wall-E)>가 유아교육에 주는 함의 (The Implications of the Animation Wall-E on Early Childhood Education)

  • 본 연구는 만화영화 <월-이(Wall-E)>의 의미를 분석하여 유아교육에 대한 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 분석방법은 Wolcott(1994)의 개념에 근거한 질적 자료 분석 방법 중 해석적 분석 모형을 사용하여 다음과 같은 연구결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 지구는 오염되고 파괴되어 버려진 땅으로 나온다. 액시엄은 지구를 파괴한 주체인 나태한 사람들의 안식처로, 선장실은 각성과 변화의 실마리를 얻는 공간이 된다. 둘째, 시간이 지남에 따라 액시엄은 귀환도구로 역할을 하며, 지구는 고향, 터전으로 인식되어 인간이 돌아왔을 때는 희망의 땅이 된다. 셋째, 캐릭터 중 <월-이>는 변화의 주체가 되어 자신뿐 아니라 인간들까지도 변화시킨다. 인간의 욕심은 지구에서의 생태적인 삶을 파괴하였다. 그러나 사람들과 서로 관계 맺고, 지구를 살리는 노력을 한다면 인류를 지속가능한 발전으로 이끌 수 있다. 본 영화를 분석한 결과 생태적 미디어가 가지는 특성인 자연친화 및 예찬, 자연파괴 및 현대문명 비판, 생명의 존엄성, 생태의식 함양, 공존, 공생, 상생의 원리 등의 요소들을 발견할 수 있었고, 유아들의 생명에 대한 감수성을 기르는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

광릉 활엽수림에서 Community Land Model 3.5-Dynamic Global Vegetation Model의 평가 (Evaluation of Community Land Model version 3.5-Dynamic Global Vegetation Model over Deciduous Forest in Gwangneung, Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 광릉의 활엽수림에서 관측된 생태자료들을 이용하여 CLM3.5-DGVM(Community Land Model 3.5-Dynamic Global Vegetation Model)의 탄소교환과정에 대한 모의능력을 평가하고 탄소수지를 계산하였다. 또한 식생 종의 구성과 식물계절학, 그리고 기후 변동성이 탄소수지에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 민감도 실험을 수행하였다. 모델의 식물계절학은 잎의 출현과 낙하의 시기를 잘 모의하지 못하였으며, 특히 낙엽은 관측보다 한달 이상 지연되어 생장기간을 과대모의 하였다. 모의된 최대 엽면적지수(leaf alea index, LAI)는 5.8이며 관측값(4.5)에 비해 과대모의 되었다. 과대 모의된 LAI는 광합성량과 잎의 자가영양호홉의 과대모의를 야기하였으며, 이를 통해 연간 총 일차 생산량(gross primary producing, GPP)과 생태 호흡량(ecosystem respiration, $R_e$)의 과대모의에 기여하였다. 관측과 모델간의 LAI의 차이에도 불구하고 모의된 식생 탄소 저장항의 크기는 관측 보고된 값과 유사하였다. 모델의 식물계절학함수를 사용하는 대신 관측된 PAI로부터 유도된 식물계절학을 사용하면 생육 기간이 감소함에 따라 GPP와 $R_e$의 과대 모의는 완화되었다. 하지만 관측 보고된 값과 비교할 때 여전히 큰 값을 보였다. 모의된 탄소수지는 식생 종의 구성에는 유의한 민감도를 가지지 않았다. 모델입력자료에 기후변동성의 고려 유무에 따른 평형상태의 탄소저장량의 차이는 10%이하로 낮았으며 기후변동성이 평형상태의 탄소저 장량에 미치는 영향은 유의할 수준이 아니라고 사료된다. 모델에서 모의된 GPP와 $R_e$의 1994년부터 2003년간의 연간 변동성은 연 평균 대기온도와 일사량에 의존하였다. 모델의 다른 문제점들에 관해서도 본문에서 논의되었다.
