  • This paper describes the optimization of the spectrum sensing in terms of the throughput of the cognitive radio (CR)system. The conventional rapers do not describe the optimization problem of the spectrum sensing by considering the channel search and channel move of the CR system to be caused by the appearance of the incumbent user. However this paper evaluates the throughput of the CR user by considering the situations such as the channel search and channel move additionally. Also, this paper suggests the sensing structure being separated the data receiver from sensing receiver, and compares the sensing performance for the same receiver structure of sensing and communication with that for the separated sensing receiver in terms of the throughput of the CR user. The numerical result demonstrates that the performance of the throughput efficiency is improved by the proposed sensing receiver to be separated from the data communication path.

  • The deployment of geographically distributed wireless sensors has greatly elevated the capability of monitoring structural health in social-overhead capital (SOC) public infrastructures. This paper deals with the utilization of a distributed mobility management (DMM) approach for the deployment of wireless sensing devices in a structural health monitoring system (SHM). Then, a wireless sensing mechanism utilizing low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH)-based clustering algorithm for smart sensors has been analyzed to support the seamless data transmission of structural health information which is essentially important to guarantee public safety. The clustering of smart sensors will be able to provide real-time monitoring of structural health and a filtering algorithm to boost the transmission of critical information over heterogeneous wireless and mobile networks.

  • Optical sensor-based land cover categories produce spectral signature confusion along with degraded classification accuracy. In the classification tasks, the goal of fusing data from different sensors is to reduce the classification error rate obtained by single source classification. This paper describes the result of land cover/land use classification derived from solely of Landsat TM (TM) and multisensor image fusion between JERS 1 SAR (JERS) and TM data. The best radar data manipulation is fused with TM through various techniques. Classification results are relatively good. The highest Kappa Coefficient is derived from classification using principal component analysis-high pass filtering (PCA+HPF) technique with the Overall Accuracy significantly high.

  • This paper presents a geostatistical contextual classifier for the classification of remote sensing data. To obtain accurate spatial/contextual information, a simple indicator kriging algorithm with local means that allows one to estimate the probability of occurrence of certain classes on the basis of surrounding pixel information is applied. To illustrate the proposed scheme, supervised classification of multi-sensor remote sensing data is carried out. Analysis of the results indicates that the proposed method improved the classification accuracy, compared to the method based on the spectral information only.

  • When the data from the artificial satellite is analyzed, recent years it is perceived to vegetation index using BRF(Bidirectional Reflectance Factor) of the observation target. To make the BRF models, it is important to measure the 3D structure of the observation target actually. In this study, it is proposed to the observation technique by using laser scanning data. Also, our team has been operating the radio controlled helicopter which can fly over the tall forest canopy and it can be equipped the measurement system.

  • Presently, the exploration of an unknown environment is an important task for the development of mobile robots and mobile robots are navigated by means of a number of methods, using navigating systems such as the sonar-sensing system or the visual-sensing system. To fully utilize the strengths of both the sonar and visual sensing systems, In mobile robotics, multi-sensor data fusion(MSDF) became useful method for navigation and collision avoiding. Moreover, their applicability for map building and navigation has exploited in recent years. In this paper, as the preliminary step for developing a multi-purpose autonomous carrier mobile robot to transport trolleys or heavy goods and serve as robotic nursing assistant in hospital wards. The aim of this paper is to present the use of multi-sensor data fusion such as ultrasonic sensor, IR sensor for mobile robot to navigate, and presents an experimental mobile robot designed to operate autonomously within indoor environments. Simulation results with a mobile robot will demonstrate the effectiveness of the discussed methods.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and from field surveys. Topographical and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The factors chosen that influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature and distance from drainage, all from the topographic database; lithology and distance from lineament, taken from the geologic database; land use from TM satellite images; and the vegetation index value from SPOT satellite images. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by logistic regression model. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data and compared with probabilistic model. The validation results showed that the logistic regression model is better prediction accuracy than probabilistic model.

  • In this paper, we carried out studying for real-time monitoring method about water distribution information of flow, flux, pressure and the vibrations, that facility management system checks it by using UFSN sensors. We developed UFSN sensing generator, gateway, and middleware, and defined UFSN sensing data format. Also we verified sending sensing data. We have monitored water distribution based on GIS drawing in real-time by storing sensing data in existing Underground Facility Management System.

  • In the edge detection of RS image, the useful detail losing and the spurious edge often appear. To solve the problem, we use the dyadic wavelet to detect the edge of surface features by combining the edge detecting with the multi-resolution analyzing of the wavelet transform. Via the dyadic wavelet decomposing, we obtain the RS image of a certain appropriate scale, and figure out the edge data of the plane and the upright directions respectively, then work out the grads vector module of the surface features, at last by tracing them we get the edge data of the object therefore build the RS image which obtains the checked edge. This method can depress the effect of noise and examine exactly the edge data of the object by rule and line. With an experiment of a RS image which obtains an airport, we certificate the feasibility of the application of dyadic wavelet in the object edge detection.
