  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the visual sensibility of color combination for clothing. The color combination for clothing were divided into three types according to the color coordination. In each type, the stimulus was applied three combination method according to the chromatic color/chromatic color, the chromatic color/achromatic color, the achromatic color/achromatic color. As a result, 42 color combination for clothing were obtained. The survey has been done for the 42 color combination for clothing with 27 semantic differential hi-polar scales. The major findings of this research were as follows. 1. To explain the hierarchy of visual sensibility, two sensibility groups were classified, the first group being cute and bold sensibility and the second group being comfortable and soft sensibility. 2. As result of the factor analysis, 4 factors(attractiveness, cuteness, boldness, softness) were found to be constructing factors for visual sensibility of color combination for clothing. 3. To explain the hierarchy of visual sensibility, two sensibility groups were classified, the first group being cute and bold sensibility and the second group being comfortable and sort sensibility.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the international unique color sensibility according to the ethnic color preferences. The existing studies about color sensibility were investigated to analyze the international color sensibility. The countries were chosen according to its, strong regional and racial color. Also, the documents and websites about environment color such as structure color, natural feature color, traditional folk costume color and customary color names were investigated, and then, the international color sensibility was analyzed by using the color image scale. As a result of the analysis about the differences of color sensibility, internationally distinguished color sensibility was discovered. There were differences not only for the preference trend of hue but also for the tone or contrast of color among the selected countries. Especially, Great Britain had a strong preference for G categories that they preferred the warm-grayish color image. Russia has a preference for R, G, and B categories with the preference for the warm-clear image. Netherlands had a preference for R, Y, and PB categories and it preferred the cool-hard-grayish, warm-soft-clear image. Italy had a preference for R and Y categories and it preferred the warm-clear image. Morocco had a preference for R and B categories and it preferred the warm and cool, clear image. Japan had a preference for R, G categories and it preferred the warm-grayish image. Korea had a preference for R and B categories and it preferred the warm-soft-clear, and cool-clear image. With these results, the researcher concludes that the integrated analysis of the environment color and the traditional racial color factors are very persuasive methods to comprehend the international color sensibility.

  • Purpose of this study is to explore: 1) the difference in color sensibility evaluation, color attractiveness, and attitude toward the product, 2) the difference in the effect of color sensibility evaluation on color attractiveness, and 3) the difference in the effect of color sensibility evaluation on attitude toward the product between the identical clothing product presented in on-line and off-line settings. Experimental method was applied with 230 male and female university students using stimuli of an on-line site as well as an off-line window display presenting the same white t-shirts. Color sensibility factors of white t-shirt were hedonic, stimulating, active, and spatial senses. These color sensibility factors of the clothing product affected product color attractiveness as well as attitude toward the product. Although there were not differences in color sensibility evaluation, product attractiveness, and attitude toward the product between items presented in on-line and off-line settings, difference was found in the effect of color sensibility on the color attractiveness and attitude toward the product. The effect of color sensibility on color attractiveness and attitude toward the product was stronger in on-line than in off-line setting. Hedonic sense was the most important factor influencing attractiveness of product color and attitude toward the product. In addition, spatial sense affected attractiveness of product color in on-line setting; and stimulating sense impacted attitude toward the product in off-line setting. Based on the results implications were generated.

  • This study was aimed to consider the influence of hue-tone, dyes, and mordants of naturally dyed silk fabric on color sensibility image factors and to establish color sensibility image scales of naturally dyed silk fabric by color and image descriptors. By single or sequential dyeing with various natural dyes commercially available in domestic and foreign market on the same silk fabric, a total of 66 colored fabric stimuli were prepared and they were used to evaluate subjective color sensibility image by 40 participants. As results, four different color sensibility image factors for naturally dyed silk fabric, 'delight', 'natural', 'modern' and 'attractive' were extracted. All of factors were significantly influenced by hue-tone, dyes, and mordants. Furthermore, by using color sensibility image adjectives and colors, multidimensional image scales were established, which leads to the conclusions that the results of this study help to design color sensibility-oriented naturally dyed fabric and apparel products.

  • In this paper, we propose a web page retrieval system based on the sensibility evaluation induced by the color combination of web pages. The realized system consist of two modules - the indexing module that automatically extracts and indexes the color information from the web page and the retrieval module that retrieves web pages based on the color combination when sensibility adjective is presented. Also, to verify the system usefulness, we analyzed the ranking of web pages retrieved by the system and by human subjects (non-expels and experts for color web page design) using two statistical methods of correlation and paired-t test. Results by non-experts showed the realized system was suitable for 10 sensibility adjectives among 18 sensibility adjectives, and results by experts showed that the realized system was suitable for 14 sensibility adjectives among 18 sensibility adjectives.

  • The purposes of this research were to evaluate the color sensibility and preferences, and to analyze the effect of the tactile preferences and purchasing preference on structural properties, color characteristics and color sensibility for the black color fabrics. Male and female university students were asked to evaluate the color sensibility, tactile preference and purchasing preference to the nine different black fabrics which were selected on the basis of the previous research results. Data were analyzed by using frequency analysis, mean, factor analysis, t-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, correlation and regression analysis. The color sensibility for black color fabrics was classified into four factors: simplicity/classic, elegance, modernity and dignity. This color sensibility factors showed a significant correlative relationship to the structural properties and color characteristics of black color fabrics. On the other hand, fabrics which were evaluated with good tactile preference among the black color fabrics tended to show higher purchasing preference. Also, among the color sensibility, the structural properties and color characteristics of black color fabrics, major variable factor of influencing on the tactile preference and the purchasing preference was turned out to be the color sensibility.

  • This research was conducted to see the effect of color combination and layout in the design of web sites. Eight color combination samples and four basic layouts were selected and web pages designed from their combinations were used in the experiment. The main sensibility effects were found in the 'light, soft, and rich' color combination and in the 'light, dear, simple, warm, neat, and soft layout, respectively. Among the combinations of two factors, the combination of 'dark, hard, and simple' color combination and 'cold, somber, hard, and urban' layout had the sensibility effect. The results showing sensibility word with the sensibility of color combinations in themselves appeared first implies that much of the sensibility effects were caused by the color combinations. In case of layout, as it went from layout A to layout B, to layout C, and to layout D, that is, as the layout got more complicated, it had a 'rich and urban' impression. As a result, the sensibility effect caused by color combination was bigger than the sensibility effect caused by layout. However, layout is crucial in color combinations, it is also important in the design of web sites.

  • This study was aimed to determine color sensibility factors for naturally dyed fabrics and to investigate their relationship with color variables such as hue and tone and dyes. Two hundreds different fabric colors prepared by a variety of natural dyeing were subjectively evaluated by color experts, which resulted in three color sensibility factors including 'Pleasant', 'Comfort', and 'Modem'. Among hues, Yellowish shade by natural dyeing was found as more pleasant and more comfort than any others. Among main tones for natural dyeing, g(grayish) and ltg(light grayish) were more felt in 'Comfort' whereas d(dull) more in 'Pleasant'. As for dyes, Gardenia Blue, Gardenia Yellow, and Anato tended to give feelings of 'Pleasant' whereas Raw Indigo and Loess did 'Comfort'.

  • This study was carried out in order to investigate the colorimetric values, the color sensation and sensibility for naturally dyed fabrics with microbial prodiginine colorant and to find out the relationship among color sensation, color sensibility factors and colorimetric properties of them. Color sensation and sensibility of four different fabric stimuli coloring red purple by a microbial prodiginine colorant produced from Zooshikella sp. were subjectively evaluated by university students. The color sensibility for the naturally dyed fabrics was classified into four factors: 'pleasantness', 'gracefulness', 'characteristic' and 'relax'. Color sensibility factor 'pleasantness' was the dominant factor for the naturally dyed fabrics with microbial prodiginine colorant. All color sensibility factors showed a significant correlations with the color sensation and colorimetric properties of the dyed fabrics with prodiginine. There were showed significant relationships between the color sensibility factors and lightness $L^{\ast}$, color saturation $C^{\ast}$, $a^{\ast}$ and $b^{\ast}$. Also, color preference of the dyed fabrics with prodiginine was found to be influenced mainly by color sensibility factors.
