  • Using a multi-array needle module developed for coating of high-density cylindrical microlens array (C-MLA), we have fabricated an anti-Moiré filter for LED screens. The Moiré phenomenon appears due to the interference between the array pattern of image sensors in a camera and the non-emission area (grid pattern) of a LED screen. To suppress it, we have employed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and coated it on a glass substrate in the form of a grid and non-grid (parallel lines). We have rotated the needle module in order to increase the number of C-MLAs. With this scheme, we have fabricated the 150 mm × 150 mm anti-Moiré filters where 836 microlens lines are formed. They show the average width of 255.4 ㎛, the average distance between CMLs of 94.6 ㎛, and C-MLA width non-uniformity of 4.7%. We have shown that the Moiré patterns still appear in the presence of the parallel (non-grid)-type filter, whereas they disappeared completely by the grid-type filter. It is due to the fact that the Moiré patterns are diffused more effectively by the grid-type C-MLA.

  • A cylindrical microlens (CML) has been widely used as an optical element for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), light diffusers, image sensors, 3D imaging, etc. To fabricate high-performance optoelectronic devices, the CML with high aspect ratio is demanded. In this work, we report on facile solution-based processes (i.e., slot-die and needle coatings) to fabricate the CML using poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). It is found that compared with needle coating, slot-die coating provides the CML with lower aspect ratio due to the wide spread of solution along the hydrophilic head lip. Although needle coating provides the CML with high aspect ratio, it requires a high precision needle array module. To demonstrate that the aspect ratio of CML can be enhanced using slot-die coating, we have varied the molecular weight of PMMA. We can achieve the CML with higher aspect ratio using PMMA with lower molecular weight at a fixed viscosity because of the higher concentration of PMMA solute in the solution. We have also shown that the aspect ratio of CML can be further boosted by coating it repeatedly. With this scheme, we have fabricated the CML with the width of 252 ㎛ and the thickness of 5.95 ㎛ (aspect ratio=0.024). To visualize its light diffusion property, we have irradiated a laser beam to the CML and observed that the laser beam spreads widely in the vertical direction of the CML.

  • This study is to minimize the patient dose and maintain the image quality according to change of source to image receptor distance and applying additional filter. In this study, we used the DR system, the tissue-equivalent abdomen phantom and the aluminium filter. The exposure conditions were set to 80 kVp using AEC mode. The collimation size was $16{\times}16inch$. The exposure dose were measured 10 times when the SID was changed with 100, 110, 120 and 130 cm, respectively. The pirana 657 for dosimeter was located on center of radiation irradiation. The acquired images were analyzed by using the image J. In the results, the tube current was increased with increasing the SID but ESD was decreased with increasing the SID. The decrease of ESD attribute to use of filter that remove the photon of lower energy. In the histogram results using image J, there were differences between the ESD and the exposure conditions according to change of SID. However, there were not differences in histogram. Therefore, the exposure dose could reduced when set the longer SID. For pediatric exam, the exposure dose could reduced when used the aluminium filter.

  • Novel aromatic imine derivatives with yellow were designed and synthesized for their potential application in color filters for image sensors. The synthesized compounds possessed chemical structures using aromatic imine groups. This innovative material was evaluated thoroughly, considering its optical and thermal properties under conditions similar to commercial device manufacturing processes. Following a rigorous performance evaluation, it was found that (E)-3-methyl-4-((3-methyl-5-oxo-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4(5H)-ylidene)methyl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5(4H)-one, abbreviated as MOPMPO, exhibited an impressive solubility of 0.5 wt% in propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, predominantly utilized as the solvent in the industry. Furthermore, MOPMPO showed exceptional performance as a color filter material for image sensors, having a high decomposition temperature of 290 ℃. These data unequivocally establish MOPMPO as a viable yellow dye additive for coloring materials in image sensor applications.

  • Terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy(TDS), imaging techniques, and related systems have become mature technologies, widely used in many universities and research laboratories. However, the development of creative technologies still requires improved THz application systems. A few key points are discussed, including the innovative advances of mode-locking energy-emitting semiconductor lasers and better photoconductive semiconductor quantum structures. To realize a compact, low cost, and high performance THz system, it is essential that THz spectroscopy and imaging technologies are better characterized by semiconductor and nano-devices, both static and time-resolved. We introduce the THz spectroscopy and imaging systems, the OSCAT(Optical Sampling by laser CAvity Tuning) system and the ASOPS(ASynchronous Optical Sampling) system, are constructed by our research team. We report on the THz images obtained from their use.

  • In this study, we demonstrated Fourier-domain/swept-source optical coherence tomography (FD/SS-OCT) at a center wavelength of 800 nm for in vivo human retinal imaging. A wavelength-swept source was constructed with a semiconductor optical amplifier, a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter, isolators, and a fiber coupler in a ring cavity. Our swept source produced a laser output with a tuning range of 42 nm (779 to 821 nm) and an average power of 3.9 mW. The wavelength-swept speed in this configuration with bidirectionality is 2,000 axial scans per second. In addition, we suggested a modified zero-crossing method to achieve equal sample spacing in the wavenumber (k) domain and to increase the image depth range. FD/SS-OCT has a sensitivity of ~89.7 dB and an axial resolution of 10.4 ${\mu}m$ in air. When a retinal image with 2,000 A-lines/frame is obtained, an acquisition speed of 2.0 fps is achieved.

  • In this paper we propose a VLSI implementation technique for camcorder's digital zooming system. The proposed VLSI includes the system clock(CLK), vertical drive(VD), horizontal drive(HD),blank(BLK), and field(FLD) signals as inputs, and produces magnified image as an output, with 256 different magnification ratios. In general, the above mentioned input signals are provided by the CCD driving IC in most camcorders. As a result, the proposed digital zooming VLSI can magnify a part of the input image by up to 256 times, where the magnification ratio can be chosen among 256 different steps. In the application point of view, the proposed VLSI can be used in any digital camcorder for realizing near continuous step digital zooming without any additional circuitry, such as micom or a general purpose digital signal processor.

  • Computed tomography (CT) is one of the most widely used medical imaging modality. However, substantial x-ray dose exposed to the human subject during the CT scan is a great concern. Region-of-interest (ROI) CT is considered to be a possible solution for its potential to reduce the x-ray dose to the human subject. In most of ROI-CT scans, the ROI is set to a circular shape whose diameter is often considerably smaller than the full field-of-view (FOV). However, an arbitrarily shaped ROI is very desirable to reduce the x-ray dose more than the circularly shaped ROI can do. We propose a new method to make a non-circular convex-shaped ROI along with the image reconstruction method. To make a ROI with an arbitrary convex shape, dynamic collimations are necessary to minimize the x-ray dose at each angle of view. In addition to the dynamic collimation, we get the ROI projection data with slightly lower sampling rate in the view direction to further reduce the x-ray dose. We reconstruct images from the ROI projection data in the compressed sensing (CS) framework assisted by the exterior projection data acquired from the pilot scan to set the ROI. To validate the proposed method, we used the experimental micro-CT projection data after truncating them to simulate the dynamic collimation. The reconstructed ROI images showed little errors as compared to the images reconstructed from the full-FOV scan data as well as little artifacts inside the ROI. We expect the proposed method can significantly reduce the x-ray dose in CT scans if the dynamic collimation is realized in real CT machines.

  • Fingerprint image enhancement and minutiae matching are two key steps in an automatic fingerprint identification system. In this paper, we propose a fingerprint recognition technique by using minutiae linking information. Recognition process have three steps ; preprocessing, minutiae extraction, matching step based on minutiae pairing. After extracting minutiae of a fingerprint from its thinned image for accuracy, we introduce matching process using minutiae linking information. Introduction of linking information into the minutiae matching process is a simple but accurate way, which solves the problem of reference minutiae pair selection with low cost in comparison stage of two fingerprints. This algorithm is invariable to translation and rotation of fingerprint. The matching algorithm was tested on 500 images from the semiconductor chip style scanner, experimental result revealed the false acceptance rate is decreased and genuine acceptance rate is increased than existing method.
