  • This study introduces an undefined self-imaging phenomenon, called here the pseudo-self-imaging phenomenon. The relative phases of the guided modes were used to discover how the pseudo-self-images are formed. The pseudo-self-image was found and measured experimentally. The experimental results showed that both the pseudo-self-image and the 0-dB self-image have similar intensity values and have opposite positions in the lateral direction.

  • The self-imaging effect or lensless imaging effect of a phase line grating is theoretically analyzed by using Fresnel diffraction theory, then experimentally investigated. The self-imaging distance $z_{T,p}$, that is the imaging distance being perfectly copied from the phase distribution of the phase grating to its intensity distribution with the magnification of 1X, can be uniquely defined as the (4n-3) $z_{T,a}$/4(n=positive integers), where rte is the well-known self-imaging distance of an amplitude grating. When the coherent laser beam is illuminated at the phase grating, the self-imaged images were obtained at $z_{T,p}$= $z_{T,a}$/4 and $z_{T,p}$=5 $z_{T,a}$/4 without any optics. On the other side, the phase-reversed self-imaging was obviously observed at $z_{T,p}$ = 3 $z_{T,a}$/4. The visibility of self-imaged images of a phase line grating as a function of the number of slits of the input grating was measured by the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) results of the self-imaging images. As a result a stationary maximum visibility of V = 0.10 can be obtained from a grating with more than 15 slit pairs.n 15 slit pairs.

  • Simple principles of self-imaging in Multi-Mode Interference (MMI) devices are based on the approximation of propagation constants. The analysis of the basic nature of the self-imaging principle reveals the problems of previous optimization methods, and provides a new scheme to optimize the external variables for the reconciliation of approximation problems by considering two different tendencies of approximation effects. Furthermore, the representative mode method is proposed to make the application easy. This optimization method provides an essential method for stable design and fabrication of MMI devices with improved characteristics.

  • We have studied about spatial wavefront analysis of a pulsed laser output beam by means of an imaging unstable ring resonator with an infinite Fresnel number. We have constructed a Newtonian telescope type NBUR (Negative Branch Unstable Ring) Nd:YAG laser with 4 plane mirrors. Provided that the NBUR resonator is under self imaging condition, the resonator could be reduced diffraction effects which were occuring to the beam transmitting through the circular aperture of scraper mirror in the resonator. We have observed enhancement in the spatial coherence of wavefronts of laser beam due to the iterative round trips of the self imaging beam inside the ring resonator. The information on the spatial wavefronts was determined by the fringe patterns from Mach-Zehnder interferometer and the fringe analysis by means of the Fourier transform method showed the distortion of wavefronts of less than 0.2), In comparison with a standing wave type resonator, we have confirmed that the spatial coherence of the NBUR Nd:YAG laser output beam was enhanced as much as 75%. s 75%.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate a self-imaging technique that can visualize longitudinal interference patterns behind periodically-structured objects, which is often referred to as Talbot carpet. Talbot carpet is of great interest due to ever-decreasing scale of interference features. We demonstrate experimentally that Talbot carpets can be imaged in a single exposure configuration revealing a broad spectrum of multi-scale features. We have performed rigorous diffraction simulations for showing that Talbot carpet print can produce ever-decreasing structures down to limits set by mask feature sizes. This demonstrates that large-scale pattern masks may be used for direct printing of features with substantially smaller scales. This approach is also useful for characterization of image sensors and recording media.

  • Dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging plays an important role in non-invasive detection and characterization of primary and metastatic lesions in the liver. Recently, efforts have been made to improve spatial and temporal resolution of DCE liver MRI for arterial phase imaging. Review of recent publications related to arterial phase imaging of the liver indicates that there exist primarily two approaches: breath-hold and free-breathing. For breath-hold imaging, acquiring multiple arterial phase images in a breath-hold is the preferred approach over conventional single-phase imaging. For free-breathing imaging, a combination of three-dimensional (3D) stack-of-stars golden-angle sampling and compressed sensing parallel imaging reconstruction is one of emerging techniques. Self-gating can be used to decrease respiratory motion artifact. This article introduces recent MRI technologies relevant to hepatic arterial phase imaging, including differential subsampling with Cartesian ordering (DISCO), golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP), and X-D GRASP. This article also describes techniques related to dynamic 3D image reconstruction of the liver from golden-angle stack-of-stars data.

  • In this work, a D-band imaging detector has been developed in a 65-nm CMOS technology for high frequency imaging application. The circuit was designed based on the resistive self-mixing of MOSFET devices. The fabricated detector exhibits a maximum responsivity of 400 V/W and minimum NEP of 100 $pW/Hz^{1/2}$ at 145 GHz. The chip size is $400{\mu}m{\times}450{\mu}m$ including the probing pads and a balun, while the core of the circuit occupies only $150{\mu}m{\times}100{\mu}m$.
