A Numerical Analysis Approach for Design of Cable Dome Structures (케이블 돔 구조물 설계를 위한 수치해석 방법)

  • This paper deals with the method of self-equilibrium stress mode analysis of cable dome structures. From the point of view of analysis, cable dome structure is a kind of unstable truss structure which is stabilized by means of introduction of prestressing. The prestress must be introduced according to a specific proportion among different structural member and it is determined by an analysis called self-equilibrium stress mode analysis. The mathematical equation involved in the self-equilibrium stress mode analysis is a system of linear equations which can be solved numerically by adopting the concept of Moore-Penrose generalized inverse. The calculation of the generalized inverse is carried out by rank factorization method. This method involves a parameter called epsilon which plays a critical role in self-equilibrium stress mode analysis. It is thus of interest to investigate the range of epsilon which produces consistent solution during the analysis of self-equilibrium stress mode.

  • For each cable component in a cable dome structure, pre-tension is needed for stability of whole the structure. The summation of these pre-tension at each joint should be zero to achieve the self equilibrium structure. The first step in cable dome structure analysis is to find the ratio of pre-tension in each member which can produce a stable and structure on self-equilibrium. In this paper, a new method based on the basic principle of closed force polygon for equilibrium system is proposed for the determination of self-equilibrium mode of cable dome structure. A single layer cable dome and two multi layer type domes have been analyzed. The ratios of cable members are determined by the presented method, and check the validation of the results by numerical calculation.

  • Cable dome structures are composed of cables-masts and the cables should be in pre-tension since a structure without pre-tension is not stable. Under the pretension, self equilibrium stress state is the main characteristic of a cable dome structure. In this paper, a new method based on the basic principle of closed force polygon for equilibrium system is proposed for the determination of self-equilibrium mode of cable dome structure. The proposed method which is called geometric method has the unique characteristic of visualization of the force mode needed for maintenance of self-equilibrium. The basic theory for a self equilibrium of structure is that the summation of forces at each joint without any external load should be zero. The simplicity of the method which involves only drawing close polygon with the aid of suitable CAD software has been illustrated by means of a example. The results compared with mechanical calculation and existed method and shows good agreement.

  • In this paper, a self-tunning fuzzy inference technique for stabilization of the inverted pendulum system is proposed. The facility of this self-tunning fuzzy controller which has swing-up control mode and a stabilization one, moves a pendulum in an initial natural stable equilibrium point and a cart in arbitrary position, to an unstable equilibrium point and a center of rail. Specially, the virtual equilibrium point(${\phi}_{VEq}$) which describes functionally considers the interactive dynamics between a position of cart and a angle of inverted pendulum is introduced. And comparing with the convention optimal controller, the proposed self-tunning fuzzy inference structure made substantially the inverted pendulum system robust and stable.

Large deflections of variable-arc-length beams under uniform self weight: Analytical and experimental

  • This paper presents the solution of large static deflection due to uniformly distributed self weight and the critical or maximum applied uniform loading that a simply supported beam with variable-arc-length can resist. Two analytical approaches are presented and validated experimentally. The first approach is a finite-element discretization of the span length based on the variational formulation, which gives the solution of large static sag deflections for the stable equilibrium case. The second approach is the shooting method based on an elastica theory formulation. This method gives the results of the stable and unstable equilibrium configurations, and the critical uniform loading. Experimental studies were conducted to complement the analytical results for the stable equilibrium case. The measured large static configurations are found to be in good agreement with the two analytical approaches, and the critical uniform self weight obtained experimentally also shows good correlation with the shooting method.

The Effects of Mothers' Parental Internal Attributions and Neuroticism on Self-Perception of the Parental Role (어머니의 양육행동 내적 귀인과 정서적 불안정성이 부모역할에 대한 자기평가에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the main and interaction effects of mothers' parental internal attributions and neuroticism on self-perception of the parental role. Methods: A total of 138 mothers with toddlers in Seoul and other big cities in Korea completed questionnaires, and data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses. Results: The results were as follows: First, mothers who attributed their successful parenting to ability showed lower satisfaction, and mothers who attributed their successful parenting to ability and effort showed higher feelings of equilibrium. Mothers with higher levels of neuroticism showed higher competence, parental investment, and satisfaction in their self-perception of the parental role. Second, there were significant interaction effects between ability attribution and neuroticism on feelings of equilibrium, between effort attribution and neuroticism on feelings of equilibrium, between ability attribution and neuroticism on competence, and between effort attribution and neuroticism on parenting investment. Conclusion: The findings of this research indicate that neuroticism showed a positive effect on self-perception of the parental role because neuroticism indicates sensitivity in parenting. Further, the effects of neuroticism on self-perception of the parental role differed by mothers internal attribution.

Realistic Equivalent Load Methods in Prestressed Concrete Structures

  • The purpose of this state-of-the-art paper is to explore several important methods thor obtaining the equivalent loads in prestressed concrete structures. and to clarify the theoretical basis and implied assumptions of each method. The method devised in this stuffily include the use of curvature of tendon, characteristics of primary moment, self-equilibrium condition and linear segments approximation of tendon. It is shown that equivalent loading system it not uniquely determined depending on the approach adopted to calculate the equivalent loads. Self-equilibrium conditions of the equivalent loading system are carefully discussed. Numerical examples are presented to show the differences among the methods arid results of the approximations in each method explicitly.

  • This paper reports an analysis of self-pressurization in a closed cryogenic liquid storage system and its comparison with experimental data using liquid nitrogen. Partial equilibrium model(PEM), revised thermodynamic analysis of homogeneous model, has been applied for the pressurization in a closed tank. The vapor and liquid bulk temperature and the liquid-vapor interface temperature are separately calculated as their own representative values in this analysis. The analysis results of the partial equilibrium model are compared with the experimental data and other preceding homogeneous temperature models for validation.

An Analysis of the Impact of International Soybean Price Changes on Domestic Soybean Market and Soybean Food Self-Sufficiency Rate: A Partial Equilibrium Model Approach (국제 대두가격 변동이 국내 식용 콩 시장과 콩 식량자급률에 미치는 영향 분석: 부분균형모형을 이용한 접근)

  • Major crop prices have been raised significantly in recent years by COVID-19, the war in Ukraine, and weather-induced reductions in South American soybean production by unfavoured weather in 2022. Rising international crop prices are likely to destabilize food security in South Korea, which is highly dependent on foreign crops. This study analyzed the impact of soybean import price changes on the domestic soybean market and soybean food self-sufficiency rate from 2024 to 2029 using a dynamic partial equilibrium model. According to the scenario analysis results, if the import prices rise by 10% compared to the baseline, the soybean food self-sufficiency rate would increase by 1.33% in 2024, but it is expected to decrease to -0.58% in 2029 due to the continuous decrease in production. The results of this study are expected to be used as valuable information for policy authorities in establishing policies related to improving food self-sufficiency.
