The interest in 3-dimensional information and its practical use are rapidly increasing and thus some goods with stereoscopic views are being released. Mobile phones, unlike other units, are being closely utilized in everyday life and their applications are undoubtedly limitless. In this study, taking photographs with the stereo-camera of mobile phones has been accomplished and also the possibility of getting the quantitative information has been examined. In addition, this study aims to evaluate the quantitative practical use of mobile phones, evaluating the accuracy of the obtained quantitative information. Thus, interior orientation parameters were decided through the calibration of the lens of two cameras equipped with mobile phones. Using the determined interior orientation parameters, the 3-dimensional coordinates on the targets of the test field were calculated and then compared with precisely observed coordinates. Moreover, the performance of the orientation on the arbitrary building resulted in the standard deviation of $X={\pm}0.0674m$, $Y={\pm}0.25319$, and $Z={\pm}0.4983m$. The result also shows that the plot is possible. As a result, smart phones could be utilized for the acquisition of the quantitative information at close range and small measurement in which the high-accuracy on the basis of centimeters is not required.

In this paper, we present an inertial sensor-based gait distance measurement system using accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer. To minimize offset and gain error of inertial sensors, we performed the calibration using the self-made calibration jig with 9 degrees of freedom. For measuring accurate gait distance, we used gradient descent algorithm to remove gravity error and used analysis of gait pattern to remove drift error. Finally, we measured a gait distance by double-integration of the error-removed acceleration data. To evaluate the performance of our system, we walked 10m in a straight line indoors to observe the improvement of removing error which compared un-calibrated to calibrated data. Also, the gait distance measured by the system was compared to the measurement of the Vicon motion capture system. The evaluation resulted in the improvement of $31.4{\pm}14.38%$(mean${\pm}$S.D.), $78.64{\pm}10.84%$ and $69.71{\pm}26.25%$ for x, y and z axis, respectively when walked in a straight line, and a root mean square error of 0.10m, 0.16m, and 0.12m for x, y and z axis, respectively when compared to the Vicon motion capture system.
A three layered neural network model was developed using back propagation algorithm to estimate the UU undrained shear strength of Korean soft soil based on the database of actual undrained shear strengths and piezocone measurements compiled from 8 sites over the Korea. The developed model was validated by comparing model predictions with measured values about new piezocone data, which were not previously employed during development of model. Performance of the neural network model was also compared with conventional empirical methods. It was found that the number of neuron in hidden layer is different for the different combination of transfer functions of neural network models. However, all piezocone neural network models are successful in inferring a complex relationship between piezocone measurements and the undrained shear strength of Korean soft soils, which give relatively high coefficients of determination ranging from 0.69 to 0.72. Since neural network model has been generalized by self-learning from database of piezocone measurements and undrained shear strength over the various sites, the developed neural network models give more precise and generally reliable undrained shear strengths than empirical approaches which still need site specific calibration.

The parameters of lens such as focal length, focus, and aperture stop changes while shooting the scenes with zoom lens. Especially, zooming action dramatically changes the geometry of lens system that causes significant change of lens model. We investigated how the lens model changes while zooming in general shooting condition. Each parameters of lens model was estimated and checked whether they can be modeled well in the condition of auto-controlling focus, aperture and vibration reduction. In order to do this, calibration images were taken, modeled in different fecal length setting. And changing patterns of models were inspected to find out if there is some elements that have some particular pattern in changing with respect to focal length. The result showed us that although we didn't control the focus and aperture setting, there's specific changing patterns in radial and do-centering distortion. Especially, the strong linear correlation was found between coefficient of $r^2$ and focal length. It is expected that many parts of distortion can be eliminated without additional self calibration even if zoom operation is done when shooting the scenes if we know its fecal length and model of this coefficient.

The purpose of this study is to strengthen the capability of rapid mapping for disaster through improving the positioning accuracy of mapping and fusion of multi-sensing point cloud data derived from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and disaster investigation vehicle. The positioning accuracy was evaluated for two procedures of drone mapping with Agisoft PhotoScan: 1) general geo-referencing by self-calibration, 2) proposed geo-referencing with optimized camera model by using fixed accurate Interior Orientation Parameters (IOPs) derived from indoor camera calibration test and bundle adjustment. The analysis result of positioning accuracy showed that positioning RMS error was improved 2~3 m to 0.11~0.28 m in horizontal and 2.85 m to 0.45 m in vertical accuracy, respectively. In addition, proposed data fusion approach of multi-sensing point cloud with the constraints of the height showed that the point matching error was greatly reduced under about 0.07 m. Accordingly, our proposed data fusion approach will enable us to generate effectively and timelinessly ortho-imagery and high-resolution three dimensional geographic data for national disaster management in the future.
Borehole elemental concentration logging, measuring neutron-induced gamma rays by inelastic scattering and neutron capture interactions between neutron and formation, delivers concentrations of the most common elements found in the minerals and fluids of subsurface formation. X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence analysis from core samples are traditionally used to understand formation composition and mineralogy, but it represents only part of formations. Additionally, it is difficult to obtain elemental analysis over the whole intervals because of poor core recovery zones such as fractures or sand layers mainly responsible for groundwater flow. The development of borehole technique for in situ elemental analysis plays a key role in assessing subsurface environment. Although this technology has advanced consistently starting from conventional and unconventional resources evaluation, it has been considered as exclusive techniques of some major service company. As regards domestic research and development, it has still remained an unexplored field because of some barriers such as the deficiency of detailed information on tools and calibration facility for chemistry and mineralogy database. This article reviews the basic theory of spectroscopy measurements, system configuration, calibration facility, and current status. In addition, this article introduces the domestic researches and self-development status on borehole elemental concentration tools.

This paper presents soil deformation measurement in model chamber based on photogrammetry. We created an aluminum framed acrylic model chamber with soil inside and applied photogrammetry to measure soil deformation caused by loading tests. The soil consists of 40% black and 60% regular sand to create image contrast in soil images. In preprocessing, the self camera calibration was carried out for IOPs (Interior Orientation Parameters), followed by the space resection to estimate EOPs (Exterior Orientation Parameters) using control points located along the aluminum frame. Image matching was applied to measure the soil displacement. We tested different matching window sizes and the effect of image smoothing. Experimental results showed that 65x65 pixels of window size produced better soil deformation map and the image smoothing was useful to suppress the matching outliers. In conclusion, photogrammetry was able to efficiently generated soil deformation map.

The present study was conducted to judge the applicability of field quality control by children's goods manufacturers by assessing the contents of heavy metals such as Pb and Cd in outdoor play goods for children through measurement using Portable XRF and comparing the results through detailed analyses using ICP. Heavy metal contents of 711 part samples of 505 products were measured using XRF. According to the results, the ratio of products that exceeded the Pb and Cd content standards specified under the Quality Management and Safety Control of Industrial Products Act were 2.4% and 2.6%. Many products certified for self-regulated safety exceeded the standards and thus it was considered that harmful chemical material centered safety management systems would be necessary. Detailed ICP analyses of some products were compared and the results showed deviations of 0.9~80.8% from XRF results. The reasons for this are deviations in the characteristics of measured cross sections and the homogeneity of samples resulting from sample preparation methods, etc. Therefore, it is considered that field quality control will be applicable if measuring methods are efficiently established based on product characteristics and calibration curve preparation methods are established through quality control.
Multi-channel images of 11-MUA and 11-MUOH self-assembled monolayers were obtained by using two-dimensional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption. Patterning process was simplified by exploiting direct photo-oxidation of thiol bonding (photolysis) instead of conventional photolithography. Sharper images were resolved by using a white light source in combination with a narrow bandpass filter in the visible region, minimizing the diffraction patterns on the images. The line profile calibration of the image contrast caused by different resonance conditions at each points on the sensor surface (at a fixed incident angle) enables us to discriminate the monolayer thickness in sub-nanometer scale. Furthermore, there is no signal degradation such as photo bleaching or quenching which are common in the detection methods based on the fluorescence.

In this paper, we studied on measurement of soil deformation around the tip of model pile by close-range photogrammetry. The rigorous bundle adjustment method was utilized to monitor the soil deformation in the laboratory model pile-load test as function of incremental penetration of the pile. Control points were installed on the frame of the laboratory model box case and more than 150 target points were inserted inside the soil around the model pile and on the surface. Four overlapping images including three horizontal and one vertical image were acquired by a non-metric camera for each penetration step. The images were processed to automatically locate the control and target points in the images for the self-calibration and the bundle adjustment. During the bundle adjustment, the refraction index of the acrylic case of the laboratory model was accounted for accurate measurement. The experiment showed the proposed approach enabled the automated photogrammetric monitoring of soil deformation around the tip of model pile.
