This paper reviews the current status of R&D work on selective absorber materials. For the efficient utilization of solar energy, various types of selective absorber materials are being used for solar hot water heaters. Many selective absorbers which have been proposed and designed up to data are classified according to the absorption mechanisms. Temperature-time cycle method is often recommended for the measurement of solar absorptance. In addition, conversion efficiency of the solar collector with selective surface is compared with one with black paint surface.

This paper presents the GraphSLAM improved by selecting the measurement with respect to their likelihoods. GraphSLAM estimates the robot's path and map by utilizing the entire history of input data. However, GraphSLAM's performance suffers a lot from severely noisy measurements. In this paper, we present GraphSLAM improved by the selective measurement method. Thus the presented GraphSLAM provides higher performance compared with the standard GraphSLAM.
Graphene is attracting attention due to its outstanding properties as line material for next-generation semiconductor. Graphene pattern technology is essential to apply graphene line. Selective graphene oxide reduction as one of graphene pattern method does not require a substrate thereby a high flexibility device can be applied. Particularly, the method using photon energy has advantages of short process time and environment friendly. In this review, we introduce the photocatalytic method and the photo-thermal energy conversion method using photon energy in the selective reduction process of graphene oxides.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate effective cueing methods for selective muscle activation of gluteus medius muscles. Design: Cross sectional study design. Methods: Using the inclusion criteria for this study, 20 healthy adults, both males and females were selected for the measurement of muscle activation of gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and tensor fascia latae muscles while performing clamshell exercise, basic movements in leg raise in side-lying, and 3 different cueing methods. Electromyogram was used to measure muscle activation, and both muscle activation and muscle ratio were compared during the basic movements and different cueing methods. Results: Gluteus medius activation was highest using "try not to make your body rotate" (cueing method 2) in both clamshell exercise and leg raise side-lying (F=5.533, p<0.05, F=7.771, p<0.05), and muscle ratio was highest in clamshell exercise using cueing method 2 (p<0.05) and "don't move your tensor fascia late" (cueing method 1) in leg raise side-lying (p<0.05). This study showed that cueing method 1 in leg raise side-lying and cueing method 2 in clamshell exercise were the most effective cueing methods for selective muscle activation of gluteus medius muscle. Conclusions: The results of this study may be used as basic information for future studies on muscle activation and muscle ratio for different cueing methods and different muscles in various exercises.

The measurement of the key product quality index plays an important role in improving the production efficiency and ensuring the safety of the enterprise. Since the actual working conditions and parameters will inevitably change to some extent with time, such as drift of working point, wear of equipment and temperature change, etc., these will lead to the degradation of the quality variable prediction model. To deal with this problem, the selective integrated moving windows based principal component regression (SIMV-PCR) is proposed in this study. In the algorithm of traditional moving window, only the latest local process information is used, and the global process information will not be enough. In order to make full use of the process information contained in the past windows, a set of local models with differences are selected through hypothesis testing theory. The significance levels of both T - test and χ2 - test are used to judge whether there is identity between two local models. Then the models are integrated by Bayesian quality estimation to improve the accuracy of quality variable prediction. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive soft measurement method is verified by a numerical example and a practical industrial process.

The selective area growth light emitting diode on GaN substrate was grown using mixed-source HVPE method with multi-sliding boat system. The GaN substrate was grown using mixed-source HVPE system. Te-doped AlGaN/AlGaN/Mg-doped AlGaN/Mg-doped GaN multi-layers were grown on the GaN substrate. The appearance of epi-layers and the thickness of the DH was evaluated by SEM measurement. The DH metallization was performed by e-beam evaporator. n-type metal and p-type metal were evaporated Ti/Al and Ni/Au, respectively. At the I-V measurement, the turn-on voltage is 3 V and the differential resistance is 13 Ω. It was found that the SAG-LED grown on GaN substrate using mixed-source HVPE method with multi-sliding boat system could be applied for developing high quality LEDs.
This paper is focused on application of recursive least squares method to estimate rail irregularities from the acceleration measurement on an axle-box or a bogie for the rail condition monitoring with in-service high-speed trains. Generally, the rail condition was monitored by a special railway inspection vehicle but the monitoring method needs an expensive measurement system. A monitoring method using accelerometers on an axle-box or a bogie was already proposed in the previous study, and the displacement was successfully estimated from the acceleration data by using Kalman and frequency selective band-pass filters. However, it was found that the displacement included not only the rail irregularities but also phase delay of the applied filters, and effect of suspension of the bogie and conicity of the wheel. To identify the rail irregularities from the estimated displacement, a compensation filter method is proposed. The compensation filters are derived by using recursive least squares method with the estimated displacement as input and the measured rail irregularity as output. The estimated rail irregularities are compared with the true rail irregularity data from the rail inspection system. From the comparison, the proposed method is a useful tool for the measurement of lateral and vertical rail irregularity.
This paper is focused on a simplified measurement of rail irregularity by some axle-box accelerometers for high-speed rail condition monitoring with in-service high-speed trains. Generally, the rail condition monitoring has been done by a special railway inspection vehicle with a 10m versine method. But, the monitoring method needs some expensive measurement system, and have been performed only at night due to its speed limit. In this research, a simplified measurement of rail irregularity using axle-box accelerometers is proposed to monitor the rail condition with in-service high-speed trains. The acceleration is measured by using two accelerometers on a axle-box, and stored in an on-board data acquisition system. The displacement is estimated from the acceleration data by a combination of Kalman filter and the frequency selective filter. The estimated results are compared with the measurement from a laser rail inspection system which is near the axle-box. From the comparison, the proposed method shows promise as a tool for the simplified measurement of rail irregularity at high-speed.

Sulfide concentrations critically affect worker safety and the integrities of underground facilities, such as deep geological repositories for spent nuclear fuel. Sulfide is highly sensitive to oxygen, which can oxidize sulfide to sulfate. This can hinder precise measurement of the sulfide concentration. Hence, a literature review was conducted, which revealed that two methods are commonly used: the methylene blue and sulfide ion-selective electrode (ISE) methods. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) was used for comparison with the two methods. The sulfide ISE method was found to be superior as it yielded results with a higher degree of accuracy and involved fewer procedures for quantification of the sulfide concentration in solution. ICP-OES results can be distorted significantly when sulfide is present in solution owing to the formation of H2S gas in the ICP-OES nebulizer. Therefore, the ICP-OES must be used with caution when quantifying underground water to prevent any distortion in the measured results. The results also suggest important measures to avoid problems when using ICP-OES for site selection. Furthermore, the sulfide ISE method is useful in determining sulfide concentrations in the field to predict the lifetime of disposal canisters of spent nuclear fuel in deep geological repositories and other industries.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate effective cueing methods for selective muscle activation of the serratus anterior. Methods: Based on the inclusion criteria, 26 healthy adults, both males and females, were recruited for the measurement of muscle activation of the upper trapezius and serratus anterior muscles while performing basic movements in knee push-up plus (KPP) and dynamic hug (DH) positions using five different cueing methods. An electromyogram was used to measure muscle activation, and both muscle activation and muscle ratio (serratus anterior/upper trapezius) were compared during the basic movements and different cueing methods. The cueing methods were trapezius verbal cueing, trapezius verbal cueing + trapezius tactile cueing, emphasis verbal cueing, serratus anterior tactile cueing, and trapezius verbal cueing + trapezius tactile cueing + serratus anterior tactile cueing. Results: The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the muscles for the two exercises (p < 0.05). There was also a significant difference between the cueing methods (p < 0.05). The correlative effect between the muscles and cueing methods was also significant (p < 0.05). The muscle ratio in trapezius verbal cueing + trapezius tactile cueing + serratus anterior tactile cueing during KPP and DH was higher than in basic movements and other cueing methods. This confirms that trapezius verbal cueing + trapezius tactile cueing + serratus anterior tactile cueing is an effective cueing method for selective activation of the serratus anterior during KPP and DH. This study also demonstrated that cueing by a therapist may both increase and decrease selective muscle activation. Conclusion: Through this study, an effective cueing method to selectively activate the serratus anterior may be suggested, and the results of this study may provide basic information regarding future studies and clinical practice.
