  • The purpose of this study is to analyze hydraulic characteristics of surface irrigation in a paddy field of direct seeding culture. Field experiment was performed in the paddy field of ridge direct dry seeding. Simulation by a numerical model was also accomplished with the data obtained from the field experiment. The model was developed by one dimensional zero-inertia equation and finite difference method. From the result of the field observation, the furrows of the experimental field were found to have various geometric characteristics. Advance distance and time were measured both in the field and by the model simulation for various furrow lengths and irrigation discharges. Roughness coefficients of each furrow were also estimated by the model.

  • We have carried out the experiment to investigate optimal drainage time of barley seeding synchronized with rice harvesting in paddy field. Number of emerged barley seedling on moist paddy field was less than that of common paddy field. It is very hard to plow using combine owing to long time to work on wet condition compared to drying condition of paddy field. According to the drainage time, growth and yield of barley were not significantly different. However, late drainage time decreased the spikes per $m^2$. Rice yield and 1,000 husked rice grain weight were not significant depending on drainage times at 15 days, 20 days and 25 days before barley seeding. The range of 1,000 husked rice grain weight was 21.7~22.2 g on different drainage conditions. In results, on considering of soil hardness and time of labor, the optimal contents of soil moisture was about 33%. This study reveals that drainage time at 20 days before barley seeding is proper to increase seedlings and yield.

  • This study was established to investigate the effects of seeding depth and seeding time on the emergence, growth, and N production of Vicia tetrasperma and V. hirsuta in 2007 and 2008. All seeds of both species were gathered from Dangjin, Chungnam in late June of 2005 and stored for two year at room temperature. Both V. species began to germinate at the end of June, passed the winter with the seedling stage, rapidly increased their height in April and May, were in full bloom in May, and then withered after entering mid-June. V. hirsuta had higher emergence rate and growth compared to those of V. tetrasperma. The optimum seeding time and seeding depth for a cover cropping was from late August to early September and from 1 to 5 cm, respectively. V. tetrasperma and V. hirsuta had a satisfactory growth and provided 43.8 and $55.4kg\;ha^{-1}$of N, respectively.

  • The effects of seeding method and optimum time for freezing embryos according to the developmental stages on embryo survival rates after rapid freezing were determined using the FDA-test. The summarized results are as follows : 1. In the rapid freezing of embryos, the sucrose added medium together with Co-seeding or non-seeding showed the FDA scores of 4.67 and 4.20, respectively, but, raffinose addition obtained FDA scores of 4.27 and 3.97. 2. The developmental stage of embryos at freezing was most critical on the survival of embryos after thawing. Higher FDA scores were obtained in the order of blastocyst stage(4.94), morula stage(3.82) and ealy stage(2.65) in sucrose added medium. The same trend was observed in the raffinose added medium with an order or 4.91, 4.47 and 2.32. 3. Microscopic study of embryo before freezing and post-thawing indicated that the embryo showed shrinkage within 5 minutes after the embryo was transfer to the freezing medium. When thawed embryo was tranfered to the dilution medium, swelling of the embryo was observed and there after it reshrank indicating the removal of cryoprotectant from the embryo. The size of the embryo recovered to the original state when it was moved into a PBS-solution.

  • Blanket Copper films were chemically vapor deposited on six kinds for substrates for scrutinizing the change of characteristics induced by the difference of substrates and seeding layers. Both TiN/Si and {{{{ { SiO}_{2 } }}/Si wafers were used as-recevied and with the Cu-seeding layers of 40${\AA}$ and 160${\AA}$ which were produced by sputtering The CVD processes were exectued at the deposition temperatures between 130$^{\circ}C$ and 260$^{\circ}C$ us-ing (hfc)Cu(VTMS) as a precursor. The deposition rate of 40$^{\circ}C$ Cu-seeded substrates was higher than that of other substrates and especially in seeded {{{{ { SiO}_{2 } }}/Si substrate because of the incubation period reducing in-duced by seeding layer at the same deposition time and temperature. The resistivity of 160${\AA}$ Cu seeded substrate was lower then that of 40 ${\AA}$ because the nucleation and growth behavior in Cu-island is different from the behavior in {{{{ { SiO}_{2 } }} substrate due to the dielectricity of {{{{ { SiO}_{2 } }}.

  • To find out the effects of seed maturity and seeding rate of two planting times on the seed emergence and silage and seed yields of rye, a local variety 'Paldanghomir' harvested 30 and 45 days after heading(DAH) were planted at five seeding rates on October(optimum) and November(late) in 1985. At the optimum planting, number of seedlings per unit area and number of tillers per plant were affected by seeding rate, but not by the seed maturities. However, at the late planting, number of seedlings per unit area and number of tillers per plant wer higher in the seed harvested 45 DAH, and they were not correlated with seeding rate in both seeds harvested 30 and 45 DAH. Heading date was 2 or 3 days earlier in the seeds harvested 45 DAH in both planting times. Silage yield was higher at the optimum planting and increased as seeding rate increased in both planting times. Number of spike and 1000~seed weight were higher at the optimum planting than late planting and higher in the seed harvested 45 DAH than 30 DAH in late planting, but were not different among seeding rates. Seed yield at optimum planting showed no difference between seed maturities and among seeding rates, and recommandable seeding rate was 600 seeds per $m^2$. At late planting the seed yield of the seed harvested 45 DAH in the seeding rate over 750 seeds per $m^2$ approached to the yield of the optimum planting. The seed harvested 30 DAH was unstable because of extremely low emergence rate and yield even at the higher seeding rate in late planting. planting.

  • The objective of this research was to produce sod by box seeding for zoysiagrass or by vegetative propagation for zoysiagrass and manilagrass.1 Various ratio of peatmoss to sand(v /v) were prepared to find idea[ medium for fast and light weight sod production. Then, the days required for sod formation, the effect of growth regulators on the growth of turfgrass, and the various storage methods for winter keeping of sods were also investigated. 1.The mixed medium of sand and peatmoss(v /v, 1 : 2) showed more biomass production than that of sand. 2.In comparison of seeding rate of zoysiagrass, the amount of log /$m^2$ was most effective in the fast and dense sod formation. The amount of 20g /$m^2$ also showed fast sod formation. But, it resulted in weak plant and less tillering. During April to June, about 100 days were required to form sod with seeding rate of 5g /$m^2$ regardless of seeding time. Whereas 80 days were required to form sod in the rate log /$m^2$, which was 20 days shorter than that of 5g /$m^2$. 3.More than 85% of shoots in sod stored in field or plastic house during the winter time resumed the growth in good appearance after transplanting. The whole covering of ground with sod resulted in less weeds and faster formation of lawn. 4.Vegetative propagation of manilagrass showed about 7 to 15 days faster formation of sod than that of zoysiagrass. Application of GA increased shoot growth and BA increased the total number of tillering. However, the effects of the combined application of GA and BA were negligable.

  • The field trial was performed to evaluate the rice growth and yield in different direct seeding methods after Italian Ryegrass Harvest The required time for seed emergence was for 7 ~ 8days in the tested direct seeding methods and there was high in seedling establishment in order of wet hill-seeding with iron-coated seeds > water seeding with iron-coated seeds > wet hill-seeding with soil coverage with pregerminated seeds. The rice plant height was shorter in the tested direct seeding methods than that of machine transplanting until 45day after seeding but there was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis at 63day after seeding. The growth of tiller number in the rice plant was high in water seeding with iron-coated seeds and wet hill-seeding with soil coverage and low in wet hill-seeding with iron-coated seeds compared to machine transplanting. The yield component in the tested direct seeding methods was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis. The milled rice yield in the tested direct seeding methods was higher 2 ~ 8% being with 4.94 ~ 5.24t/ha than that of machine transplanting but there was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis. The percentage of head rice was low in the tested direct seeding methods compared to machine transplanting. The weedy rice was not occurred in the tested rice cultivation methods. In conclusion the direct seeding method would be recommended to be a suitable to in following by Italian ryegrass harvesting in southern area of Korea in terms of reduction in production cost and high income basis for rice growing farmers.

  • A study was conducted to find out the varietal difference in some important agronomic characters in response to different seeding time in barely from 1975 to 1976 at Chikugo Agric. Expt. Station in Japan. Thirteen varieties which are diverse in growth period were used. Nine seeding time were tried. Seedling emergence, primary tillering, and formation of flower primodia were delayed in proportion to the seeding time. And also heading and maturing time showed the same tendency. This tendency appeared more conspicuous in the late maturing varieties. Therefore, days to heading and maturing duration were inversely shortened by the delay of seeding time and by earliness of variety. Number of spikes as well as culm length and spike length was reduced in the late seeding. Grain yield was reduced in all varieties by late seeding, easpecially with late maturing varieties. In this test, widely adaptable variety to late seeding time was not found, but earliness and high tillering in growth habit appeared more favorable to yield increase.

  • This experiment was canied out to investigate the effect of seeding times on the fresh yield of fodder beet varieties, and to select the most adaptable varieties of fodder beet in Daekwanryeong areas. Three varieties(Kyros, Zorba and Hugin) and six seeding times(25 July, 4 Aug. and 14 Aug. in 1993. and 30 Apr., 10 May and 20 May in 1994) were combined in the experiment. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The seeding time for the highest fresh yield of fodder beet was obtained as 18.29 tonha on 25 July in 1993. Of various varieties, the highest fresh yields were 22.59 ton and 18.89 tonlha for Kyros and Zorba on 25 July, and 19.15 tonha for Hugin on 4 Aug. in 1993. 2. The fresh yield of fodder beet were 20.30 ton, 19.41 ton and 16.93 tonlha on 30 Apr., 10 May and 20 May in 1994, respectively. The highest fresh yield of the varieties were 77.78 ton for Kyms on 20 May, 19.79 ton for Zorba on 30 Apr., and 20.63 tonha for Hugin on 10 May in 1994. 3. Shoot and root(S/R) ratio was different between seedling times. S/R ratio of the varieties were increased in 1993 due to the delayed seeding times, but on the contrary it tended to decrease in 1994 with the delayed seeding times. 4. Shoot and root(S/R) ratios of varieties were 0.94, 0.89 and 1.18 for Kyros, Zorba and Hugin in 1993, and 1.29 for Kyms, and 1.85 for Zorba and Hugin in 1994, respectively.
