Background: Presenteeism is closely related to work performance, work quality and quantity, and productivity at work. According to the job demand-control-support model, job demand, job control, and support play important roles in presenteeism. The present study investigated job characteristics profiles based on the job demand-control-support model and identify the association between job characteristics profiles and presenteeism. Methods: This secondary data analysis used the Sixth Korean Working Condition Survey, a nationwide cross-sectional dataset. The study included 25,361 Korean wage workers employed in the workplace with two or more workers. Participants were classified into four job characteristics profiles based on the job demand-control-support model, using latent profile analysis, and logistic regression was performed to examine the association between study variables. Results: Overall, 11.0 % of study participants reported experience of presenteeism in the past 12 months. Age, sex, location, monthly income, shift work, work hours, health problems, and sleep disturbances were significantly associated with presenteeism. The rate of presenteeism was the highest in the passive isolate group. The passive collective, active collective, and low-stain collective groups had a 23.0%, 21.0%, and 29.0% lower likelihood of experiencing presenteeism, respectively, than the passive isolate group. Conclusions: The job demand-control-support profiles and the risk of presenteeism were significantly associated. The most significant group that lowered the experience of presenteeism was the low-strain collective group, which had a low level of demand and high levels of control and support. Therefore, we need a policy to reduce job demand and increase job control and support at the organizational and national levels.
Background: The exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation is a significant risk factor generally underestimated by outdoor workers and employers. Several studies have pointed out that occupational solar exposure increased eye and skin diseases with a considerable impact on the lives and productivity of affected workers. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness against ultraviolet radiation of some measures recently undertaken for the protection of lifeguards in a coastal area of Tuscany. Methods: Different shading structures (gazebos and beach umbrella) were tested during a sunny summer's day on a sandy beach by means of two radiometers; the UV protection offered by some T-shirts used by lifeguards was also tested in the laboratory with a spectrophotometer. Results: The analysed shading structures strongly reduced the ultraviolet radiation by up to 90%, however a not always negligible diffuse radiation is also present in the shade, requiring further protective measures (T-shirt, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.); the tested T-shirts showed a very good-excellent protection according to the Australian/New Zealand standard. Conclusion: Results obtained in this study suggest how the adoption and dissemination of good practices, including those tested, could be particularly effective as a primary prevention for lifeguards who are subjected to very high levels of radiation for long periods.
Plasma-resistant ceramic (PRC) is a material used to prevent internal damage in plasma processing equipment for semiconductors and displays. The challenge is to suppress particles falling off from damaged surfaces and increase retention time in order to improve productivity and introduce the latest miniaturization process. Here, we confirmed the effect of suppressing plasma deterioration and reducing the etch rate through surface treatment of existing PRC with an initial illumination level of 200 nm. In particular, quartz glass showed a decrease in etch rate of up to 10%. Furthermore, it is believed that micro-scale secondary particles formed on the microstructure of each material grow as crystals during the fluoridation process. This is a factor that can act as a killer defect when dropped, and is an essential consideration when analyzing plasma resistance. The plasma etching suppression effect of the initial illumination is thought to be due to partial over etching at the dihedral angle of the material due to the sputtering of re-emission of Ar+-based cations. This means that plasma damage due to densification can also be interpreted in existing PRC studies. The research results are significant in that they present surface treatment conditions that can be directly applied to existing PRC for mass production and a new perspective to analyze plasma resistance in addition to simple etching rates.

Acadian marine plant extract powder (AMPEP) and Kelpak are commercial biostimulants derived from brown algae Ascophyllum nodosum. This study was to determine if AMPEP and Kelpak can induce thermal resistance in Pyropia yezoensis. P. yezoensis blades were exposed to different concentrations (control: 0, low: 0.001, high: 1 ppm) of AMPEP and Kelpak at 10℃ for 6 and 7 days, respectively. Those blades were then cultivated in von Stosch enriched seawater medium at different temperatures (10, 15, 20, and 25℃) with 12 : 12 L : D photoperiod and 100 µmol m-2 s-1 of photosynthetically active radiation for additional 15 days. Results showed that P. yezoensisreproduced archeospores at 20 and 25℃ at all biostimulant conditions within 15 days. At lower temperatures (10 and 15℃), only AMPEP-treated P. yezoensis reproduced archeospores. P. yezoensis exposed to 1 ppm Kelpak exhibited higher phycoerythrin and phycocyanin contents than control and 0.001 ppm conditions at 15℃. AMPEP-treated conditions showed higher phycoerythrin and phycocyanin contents than control at 10℃. These results suggest that AMPEP and Kelpak may not enhance the thermal resistance of P. yezoensis. However, AMPEP stimulated archeospores release at lower temperatures. The treatment of AMPEP and Kelpak also increased the pigment contents in P. yezoensis. These results suggest that the use of seaweed-derived biostimulants can provide some economic benefits in P. yezoensis aquaculture. The enhancement of archeospores formation by AMPEP at lower temperature may also increase the productivity since Pyropia farming relies on the accumulation of secondary seedings via asexual reproduction.
The large-scale production of antibiotics by filamentous mycelial organism requires and adequate supply of dissolved oxygen. In terms of productivity, it means that oxygen transfer is the rate-limiting step. Therefore, the oxygen transfer coefficients(K$\_$L/A) were determined in a broth involving a filamentous mycelial organism such as Streptomyces avermitilis for use in fermentations. To determine (K$\_$L/A) inn a stirred vessel, a great deal of effort is required to provide all the cells with a sufficient oxygen supply. To overcome the oxygen limitation in a batch culture, a fed-batch culture was applied to control the growth rate by an intermittent supply of nutrients. Thus, it was possible to maintain a suitable dissolved oxygen concentration at a low agitation rate. The optimal agitation speed was 350 rpm at low cell concentrations (below 7 g/L) by considering the efficiency of agitation and shear stress. The (K$\_$L/A) was found to decrease from 64.26 to 29.21h.$\^$-1/ when the biomass concentration was increased from 9.82 to 12.06 g/L. In addition, and increase in viscosity was also observed during the growth phase. By comparing the (K$\_$L/A) values for the various agitation and aeration rates, it was found that the effect of an increase in (K$\_$L/A) by aeration was reduced dramatically at high biomass concentrations. However, this effect was not observed when altering the agitation rate. This suggests that controlling the dissolved oxygen concentration by altering the agitation rate was more efficient than increase the aeration rate.
The biosynthesis of Lovastatin, a cholesterol lowering agent formed by the filamentous fungus Aspergillus terreus, was investigated in shaking flask. The effects of essential elements in the experimental medium such as carbon, nitrogen, phosphate sources, and amino acids were examined to increase Lovastatin productivity. Lovastatin production in shaking flasks was 68 mg/L in the used medium. Effect of carbon source on Lovastatin production was performed. As a carbon source in the medium, 45 mL/L of glycerol increased the Lovastatin production up to 256 mg/L, which was found to be improved almost 3.5 times in comparison with that in common medium. The optimum concventration of peptonized milk as nitrogen source was obtained 30g/L on Lovastatin production. The severe inhibition of the cell growth and the Lovastatin production were observed in shaking flasks conducted at the medium contained ammonium carbonate as a nitrogen source. Lovastatin production various concentrations of several phosphate compounds was also examined. The addition of either potassium phosphate diabsic or sodium phosphate dibasic increased the Lovastatin production and the optimal level of potassium phosphate dibasic was 6 g/L. Even though Lovastatin contain methionine-derived methyl group, L-methionine and DL-methionine tend to diminish the Lovastatin production. Among the amino acids, L-histidine and L-tryptophan had a remarkable enhancing effect on the Lovastatin production. The optimal concentration of L-histidine and L-tryptophan was 6g/L.
As one of the $CO_2$ reduction strategies, a biological method was proposed to convert $CO_2$ to useful biomass with antioxidant carotenoids by photosynthetic microorganisms. One of the photoautotrophs, Haematococcus pluvialis is a freshwater green microalga and accumulates the secondary carotenoid astaxanthin during induction of green vegetative cells to red cyst cells. In this study, $CO_2$ fixation and astaxanthin production using H. pluvialis was conducted by photoautotrophic culture in the $CO_2$ supplemented photo-incubator. Maximum growth rate of H. pluvialis was obtained at a 5% $CO_2$ environment on basic N and P conditions of NIES-C medium. The photoautotrophic induction consisted of 5% $CO_2$ supply and high light illumination promoted astaxanthin synthesis in H. pluvialis, yielding an astaxanthin productivity of $9.6mg/L{\cdot}day$ and a $CO_2$ conversion rate of $27.8mg/L{\cdot}day$ to astaxanthin. From the results the sequential photoautotrophic culture and induction process using H. pluvialis is expecting an alternative $CO_2$ reduction technology with a function of valuable biosubstance production.
The reproductive ecology and the early life history of Macropodus chinensis were investigated in aquarium. Mature male made the bubble nest and spawned with wrapping the female and reverse posture. The parental male protected the offspring until the larvae depart the bubble nest. Egg productivity and egg hatching rate were the highest at water temperature in $28^{\circ}C$ and $26^{\circ}C$ respectivity than any other artificial temperature. The eggs were buoyant, globular and 0.95${\sim}$1.05 mm in diameter. Cleavage was progressed at intervals of 15 minutes. Eggs hatched in 42${\sim}$44hours after fertilization and the newly hatched larvae were 3.0${\sim}$3.2 mm in total length. The lawae were 4.5${\sim}$5.4 mm in 4${\sim}$5 days after hatching and fed on the food with dispersion from the nest. In 40${\sim}$45 days after hatching, all fin rays completely developed, and juveniles reached 18.2${\sim}$23.5 mm in total length. In 90${\sim}$110 days after hatching, body from of young fishes were similar to adult with 37.4${\sim}$48.2 mm and represented secondary sexual characters longer than 45.0 mm in total length, and about 120 days, fishes began spawning(water temperature for ontogenesis: $26.0{\pm} 1^{\circ}C$).

Continuous immobilized-cell culture was carried out for the production of kasugamycin, a secondary metabolite by a filamentous bacteria, Streptomyces kasugaensis, with an intention of reducing waste generation. A sporulation medium was developed for production of bulk amounts of spores, and the spores were entrapped into celite biosupports for immobilization. It was possible to effectively keep the immobilized-cells inside the reactor during the continuous culture by an efficient immobilized cell separator of decantor type on the outlet of the fermentor. Using this continuous immobilized-cell fermentor system, we investigated the effects of feed substrate and phosphate concentrations on kasugamycin production and chemical oxygen demand(COD). Comparing with the conventional suspended-cell batch culture, the kasugamycin productivity was observed to increase by 2.5 times, whereas COD per unit kasugamycin production decreased by 2.3 times in the continuous immobilized-cell culture. Based on these results, the continuous immobilized-cell system was considered to be a cleaner bioprocess than the conventional batch suspended-cell system.

Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) is very difficult to obtain stable production of qualified ginseng roots because of variable stresses in soil environments. High salt concentrations in the ginseng nursery soil environment of Korea is one of important reducing factors for the stable production of quality ginseng. These studies were accomplished to identify the growth rate and production of ginsenoside from ginseng hairy root against NaCI. In the MS liquid culture, the highest contents and productivity of ginsenosides were appeared at 4 week after onset of the treatment of 0.1 M NaCI. And 0.24 M NaCI was more effective on the growth of ginseng hairy root under light condition than dark condition. Plants generally produce secondary metabolites in nature as a defense mechanism against pathogenic and insect attack. In this study, NaCI acts as a kind of stress as well as elicitor for production of ginsenosides.
