Re-envisioning the Epic through the Second Person Voice in Theresa Hak Kyung Cha's Dictée

  • Theresa Hak Kyung Cha's Dictée proliferates with many pronouns. Whether the various subjects invoked in Dictée refer to a single common figure remains ambiguous. By paying close attention to the ambiguity of narrative voice, this essay examines how the creation of narrative ambiguity in Dictée is closely linked to the author's employment of the second person voice. This essay particularly attends to how Cha explores the narrative possibilities of the second person voice in the text's "Calliope/Epic Poetry" section in order to reflect upon experiences of exile and migration on a transnational scale. Through the intimacy and narrative ambiguity of the second person voice, Cha is able to create an epic on migration that is not only transnational in scope, but also invites the reader to engage with the self-alienating aspects of exilic and immigrant life in an unusually intimate yet powerful manner.

웹드라마 <오구실>의 내레이션 기능 연구 (The Function of Voice-over Narration in the Web-drama OH Ku-sil)

  • 이 연구는 <오구실>의 스토리텔링에 있어서 내레이션이 차지하는 중요성과 그 기능들을 이해하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 결과, 1인칭 내레이션의 경우 주관적 진술을 통해 시청자와의 친밀감을 제고하였으며 하나의 내레이션이 두 개의 시간대와 연관될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 1인칭 내레이션과 달리 3인칭 내레이션은 기존 영상 매체에서의 역할로부터 그 쓰임새를 확장시키고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 첫째, <오구실>의 3인칭 내레이션은 스토리 이해에 필수적인 정보를 시청자에게 전달하는 핵심적인 기능을 수행하였다. 둘째, 기존 영상 매체에서의 객관적/권위적 진술로부터 주관적/권유적 진술로 그 기능이 변화하고 있었다. 셋째, 희화적인 진술을 통해 3인칭 내레이터가 해설자로부터 가상의 등장인물로 그 역할의 범위를 넓혀가고 있음 또한 확인하였다. 이는 빠듯한 시간 제약 하에서 효율적인 스토리텔링을 추구하는 웹드라마의 매체 특성에 대한 기존 내레이션의 대응으로 볼 수 있으며, 이처럼 진일보한 내레이션은 스토리 정보와 재미의 요소를 속도감 있게 전달하면서 기피해야 할 스토리텔링 방식에서 벗어나 웹드라마라는 새로운 매체의 필수 요소이자 존재 조건으로 진화하고 있다.

Traffic Signal Recognition System Based on Color and Time for Visually Impaired

  • Nowadays, a blind man finds it very difficult to cross the roads. They should be very vigilant with every step they take. To resolve this problem, Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN) is a best method to analyse the data and automate the model without intervention of human being. In this work, a traffic signal recognition system is designed using CNN for the visually impaired. To provide a safe walking environment, a voice message is given according to light state and timer state at that instance. The developed model consists of two phases, in the first phase the CNN model is trained to classify different images captured from traffic signals. Common Objects in Context (COCO) labelled dataset is used, which includes images of different classes like traffic lights, bicycles, cars etc. The traffic light object will be detected using this labelled dataset with help of object detection model. The CNN model detects the color of the traffic light and timer displayed on the traffic image. In the second phase, from the detected color of the light and timer value a text message is generated and sent to the text-to-speech conversion model to make voice guidance for the blind person. The developed traffic light recognition model recognizes traffic light color and countdown timer displayed on the signal for safe signal crossing. The countdown timer displayed on the signal was not considered in existing models which is very useful. The proposed model has given accurate results in different scenarios when compared to other models.

  • Most of the initial forms of cooperative robots were intended to repeat simple tasks in a given space. So, they showed no significant difference from industrial robots. However, research for improving worker's productivity and supplementing human's limited working hours is expanding. Also, there have been active attempts to use it as a service robot by applying AI technology. In line with these social changes, we produced a mobile manipulator that can improve the worker's efficiency and completely replace one person. First, we combined cooperative robot with mobile robot. Second, we applied speech recognition technology and deep learning based object detection. Finally, we integrated all the systems by ROS (robot operating system). This system can communicate with workers by voice and drive autonomously and perform the Pick & Place task.

빅데이터를 이용한 독거노인 돌봄 AI 대화형 말동무 아가야(AGAYA) 로봇 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on Interactive Talking Companion Doll Robot System Using Big Data for the Elderly Living Alone)

  • 본 연구는 4차 혁명기술의 핵심인 AI 기술을 활용한 대화형 AI 토이 로봇의 독거노인 돌봄에 대한 효과성에 주목하고, 보다 인간 중심적인 돌봄으로의 개인화, 맞춤화에 기여할 수 있도록 R&D를 통한 '아가야'라는 AI 토이 로봇을 개발하였다. R&D 작업은 활용 중인 AI 스피커와 AI 대화 인형의 기능을 고찰, 현재 AI 로봇을 사용 중인 총 6명의 독거노인과의 인터뷰, 독거노인의 AI 대화 로봇 사용 현황과 효과성, 한계성, 개선점 등을 파악한 후 진행되었다. 첫째, P-TTS 기술을 적용하여 듣고 싶은 사람의 음성을 자율적으로 선택하여 들음으로써 심리적 친밀감을 강화하고 둘째, 추억저장 및 소환기능으로 자신만의 심적 치유를 가능케 하며 셋째, 눈, 코, 입, 귀, 손의 5감의 다양한 역할을 추가하였고 넷째, 따뜻한 체온 유지, 아로마, 살균 및 미세먼지 제거부, 편리한 충전방식 등의 기술을 개발하였다. 이러한 기술들은 친밀감, 개인화 지향을 통한 독거노인의 대화형 로봇에 대한 사용을 확대하고, 돌봄의 수혜자라는 수동적인 프레임에서 벗어나 스스로 남은 노후를 생산적이고 독립적으로 기획할 수 있는 긍정적 이미지의 독거 노인상을 구축하는데 기여한다.

효과적으로 기부를 받기 위한 인간형 로봇의 외형 디자인 및 행동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Appearance Design and Behavior of a Humanoid Robot to Receive Donations Effectively)

  • Robot ALICE@ERICA is a service robot developed to receive donations and to provide information services. ALICE@ERICA stands for Artificial Learning Intelligence robot for Culture and Entertainment at ERICA. In order to achieve the specific purpose of receiving donations, proper appearance design, appropriate movement and good communication skills are required in terms of HRI. In this paper, we introduce three strategies for developing robots to receive donations effectively. The first is to design a robot that makes people feel intimacy, the second is to approach only one of several people as a donor, and finally the donor communicates with video contents and voice recognition. A survey was conducted on the person who showed the reaction after the robot donated money in public places. Based on the survey results, it is proved that the method presented in this study effectively contributed to fund raising. If robots can perform actions that require high level of HRI, such as donation, robots can contribute more to human society. We hope that this study contributes to the improvement of human happiness.

A Study on Comparison of Pronunciation Accuracy of Soprano Singers

  • There are three sorts of voices of female vocalists: soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto according to the transliteration. Among them, the soprano has the highest vocal range. Since the voice is generated through the human vocal tract based on the voice generation model, it is greatly influenced by the vocal tract. The structure of vocal organs differs from person to person, and the formants characteristic of vocalization differ accordingly. The formant characteristic refers to a characteristic in which a specific frequency band appears distinctly due to resonance occurring in each vocal tract in the vocal process. Formant characteristics include personality that occurs in the throat, jaw, lips, and teeth, as well as phonological properties of phonemes. The first formant is the throat, the second formant is the jaw, the third formant and the fourth formant are caused by the resonance phenomenon in the lips and the teeth. Among them, pronunciation is influenced not only by phonological information but also by jaws, lips and teeth. When the mouth is small or the jaw is stiff when pronouncing, pronunciation becomes unclear. Therefore, the higher the accuracy of the pronunciation characteristics, the more clearly the formant characteristics appear in the grammar spectrum. However, many soprano singers can not open their mouths because their jaws, lips, teeth, and facial muscles are rigid to maintain high tones when singing, which makes the pronunciation unclear and thus the formant characteristics become unclear. In this paper, in order to confirm the accuracy of the pronunciation characteristics of soprano singers, the experimental group was selected as the soprano singers A, B, C, D, E of Korea and analyzed the grammar spectrum and conducted the MOS test for pronunciation recognition. As a result, soprano singer B showed a clear recognition from F1 to F5 and MOS test result showed the highest recognition rate with 4.6 points. Soprano singers A, C, and D appear from F1 to F3, but it was difficult to find formants above 2kHz. Finally, the soprano singer E had difficulty in finding the formant as a whole, and MOS test showed the lowest recognition rate at 2.1 points. Therefore, we confirmed that the soprano singer B, which exhibits the most distinct formant characteristics in the grammar spectrum, has the best pronunciation accuracy.

꾸중에 대한 초등교사의 체험분석 (An Experiential Analysis on Scolding behavior of Elementary School Teachers)

  • This thesis is aimed to understand when and how elementary teachers scold their students and to explore any common psychological factors shown in the process. In order to produce the meaningful results of the research, applied is experience-based analysing method which expectedly leads to discovering psychological cause and effect occurring when school teachers scold students. 11 teachers of elementary school, including me the author, have joined as co-researchers to solve the next two issues and I made guidelines for the analysis. Given that co-researchers are locally scattered, they were grouped into three and in the mean time, analysis on scolding during 4 meeting sessions were made. The results of research problems are as follows. First issue: What common psychological factors exist in when and how teachers scold students? Common factors in 'when' part include three cases: teachers discovering the factors hindering student's desirable growth, noticing the class rules and peaceful communities are broken, or experiencing humiliating remarks and annoying behaviors and In "how' part, on the other hand, teachers speak up in a stronger voice or raise their tone to point out student's wrongdoing and give students a stoic and fierce look. Second issue: What psychological development takes place in scolding? Teachers who participated in this scolding experiment have experienced' feeling responsible and upset'. Feeling responsible is highly likely to be interpreted to result from the idea that teachers supposedly support students to grow into well-functional person in society. Meanwhile, feeling upset or even humiliated is caused by the frustration when they find their authority and dignity Ignored and damaged. The phases teachers go through during the scolding are: recognizing scold-inviting situation-> interpreting clues deserving enough to scold-> being aroused into the feelings-> deciding how to respond-> executing decision-> dealing with emotion. This thesis has distinctive qualities from existing ones in that the research focuses on agonies and conflicts faced with school teachers in class. On top of that, it is noted that this thesis meaningfully enables to realize teachers' psychological mechanism activated from scolding and to provide teachers with opportunities to see themselves more proper perspectives. However, there still remains some reservation since I had rather short period of time to collect data and we, co-researchers, had meeting sessions. To compensate for the possible shortcomings shown in this thesis, further research is expected to be followed to perform a practical analysis.

치위생과 학생의 자기표현이 임상실습 스트레스에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Self-Expression on Stress with Clinical Dental Practice among Students in the Department of Dental Hygiene)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the self-expression level of dental hygiene students related to communicative competence and their stress during clinical practice and what affected their stress. The subjects in this study were 125 dental hygiene students in W college, on whom a survey was conducted from September 18 through 30, 2006. After the collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 10.0 program, the following findings were acquired: 1. When a factor analysis was made to evaluate the self-expression of the students, there appeared three different categories of self-expression: voice/content, facial expression/attitude and sentiment. The three made a 58.1% prediction of their self-expression. As for overall reliability, they turned out highly reliable(Cronbach'a = .881). 2. The dental hygiene students got a mean of 3.58 out of possible five points in self-expression, which indicated that they expressed themselves relatively well. Concerning connections between their general characteristics and self-expression level, those who were inactive during clinical practice got a mean of 3.28, whereas the others who were active got a mean of 3.85. It implied that those who took a more active attitude to clinical practice expressed themselves better(p < .01). The person with whom they found it hard to get along made a statistically significant difference to their self-expression(p < .05). The students who didn't fare well with dental hygienists got the best score(3.70). The second best group(3.53) didn't get along with dentists, followed by assistant nurses(3.46) and patients/caregivers(3.31). As for the impact of the field of dream job, the students who hoped to work or study overseas(4.21) excelled in self-expression those who wanted to be hired in a general hospital, to go onto a school of higher grade and to work in a public dental clinic(p < .05). Among the general characteristics, satisfaction level with major, health status and motivation of choosing dental hygiene made no statistically significant differences to their self-expression. 3. Regarding relations between self-expression level and stress about clinical practice, those who didn't express themselves properly in terms of sentiment scored higher in stress level(3.65). Their stress was statistically significantly different according to self-expression level (p < .05). 4. As for the influence of self-expression and general characteristics on stress with clinical practice, sentiment was selected from among the self-expression categories as a decisive factor to affect stress. Their stress varied statistically significantly with that(p < .05). In contrast, their demographic variables made no statistically significant difference to that, which made a 79.2% prediction of it.

영국 커뮤니티케어의 이용자 참여 기제와 한국 장애인복지서비스에 대한 함의 (Issues on User Participation in Korean Disability Services : Implications from UK Community Care)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 영국 커뮤니티케어의 이용자 참여와 관련된 요소들의 검토를 통해서 우리나라 장애인복지서비스에서 이용자 참여를 증진시킬 수 있는 방안을 탐색해 보는 것이다. 본 연구를 통하여 발견한 우리나라 장애인복지서비스에 대한 함의는 크게 다섯 가지로 요약될 수 있다. 첫째, 영국의 커뮤니티케어에서 채택한 핵심적인 전략인 시장기제의 도입을 통한 소비자주의 접근은 크게 다른 서비스 환경 때문에 현재의 우리나라 장애인서비스에는 적합하지 못한 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 지방이양의 쟁점과 관련하여 서비스의 지방이양이 서비스의 질을 저하시키지 않으면서 이용자의 참여를 증진시킬 수 있기 위해서는 서비스의 질을 확보할 수 있는 방안이 먼저 정립되어야 한다. 셋째, 장애인들에게 사정받을 권리를 보장하고 이와 함께 사례관리 과정에 의해 운영되는 공식적 서비스 체계를 구축하는 일이 필요하다. 넷째, 이용자에게 정확한 정보를 제공할 수 있도록 하는 조치와 함께 서비스 이용자들이 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 공식화된 이의제기 절차를 마련하는 것이 필요하다. 다섯째, 전문가들이 이용자들의 개별적인 서비스 과정에 대한 참여뿐만 아니라 집단적인 이용자 운동의 참여에 대해서도 지원하는 역할을 할 수 있도록 하는 전문가 교육이 이루어질 필요가 있으며, 이용자 참여를 견인할 수 있는 장애인운동의 역할도 동시에 강조될 필요가 있다.
