The dynamics and seasonal succession of dinoflagellate community, and their correlations with environmental parameters were investigated during the period from April, 1986 to March, 1987 at 6 selected stations in Masan Bay, Korea. The dinoflagellate standing crops varied extensively with months and stations: ranging from 44 to 2,789,900 cella/ l at surface layer and from 52 to 165,714 cells/ l at bottom layer, respectively. The distribution of standing crops by size class of dinoflagellate species showed that a group of 20-um size class was predominant throughout the present survey, since the most of dominant species have belonged to the size category. Among dominant species, Gyrodinium fissum was most dominant throughout the year in all sampling stations, particulary in June. Scripsiella trochoidea was predominant in May, Protoperidinium bipes and Prorocentrum minimum from June to September, Prorocentrum triestinum, P micans and Ceratium fusus from September to December, and Heterocapsa triquetra from December to April. The stepwise multiple regression analysis between dinoflagellate and environmental parameters revealed that salinity, nitrate-N, pH, and transparency were correlated with the variations of standing crops of dinoflagellate.
The obseuations on the seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton community in Haechang Bay of the Korean southern sea were carried out during four seasons from 1997 to 1998. A total of 77 species of phytoplankton including 10 freshwater species, belonging to 51 Benera was identified. Seasonal succession of dominant species was evident in Haechang Bay; Chaetoceros cunisetus, Skeletonema costatum, Eurampia zodiacus, Dictyocha fibula and Ceratium furca in summer, C. curisetus in autunm, C. cunisetus Rhizosoienia setigera and E. zodiacus in winter and S. costatum in spring. The phytoplankton community in Haechang Bay showed various species composition and was occupied with centric diatoms all the year round, Densities of the phytoplankton cell number by the samples of Haechang Bay ranged from $8.4{\times}10^3\;cells/l\;to\;2.0{\times}10^5\;cells/l$ with the mean value of $9.2{\times}10^4\;cells/l$ in summer, from $3.2{\times}10^3\;cells/l\;to\;4.6{\times}10^6\;cells/l$ with mean of $6,2{\times}10^4\;cells/l$ in autumn, from $8.4{\times}10^3\;cells/l\;to\;4.3{\times}10^4\;cells/l$ with mean $2.2{\times}10^4\;cells/l$ in winter and from $1.0{\times}\;10^3\;cells/l to\;4.6{\times}10^4\;cells/l$, with mean of $1.1{\times}10^4\;cells/l$ in spring. Phytoplankton standing crops fluctuated with an annual mean of $4.7{\times}10^4 cells/l$ between the lowest value of $1.0{\times}10^3\;cells/l$ in spring and the highest value of $4.6{\times}10^5 cells/l$ in autumn, That is, phytoplankton standing crops was high in summer and autumn, while it was very low in winter and spring.
A study on seasonal characteristics of phytoplankton dynamics and environmental factors was carried out at four stations including Mara-do and U-do located in the western and eastern coast of Jeju Island in southern Korea from April 2003 to March 2004. Out of 101 phytoplankton species identified, 84 belong to Bacillariophyceae, 9 Dinophyceae, 6 phytoflagellates and 2 coccolithophorids, and the highest value of species diversity was observed in April. Phytoplankton was more abundant at the western coast than at the eastern coast from March to September and its highest abundance was 49.24 ${\times}$ 10$^3$ cells L$^{-1}$ at Mara-do in July. The pennate diatoms were more abundant at the western coast than at the eastern coast with the highest abundance of 38.75 ${\times}$ 10$^3$ cells L$^{-1}$ at Mara-do in July, and during this period Nitzschia longissima contributed 68.5% of the total phytoplankton abundance. Naviculaceae was more abundant at Gosan (western coast) in November when Stauroneis membranacea represented 80.1% of the abundance. Leptocylindrus dances contributed 49.4% of the abundance at U-do in November. Dinophyceae was more abundant at U-do in August. Water temperature and pH fluctuated from 11.7${^{\circ}C}$ to 27.1${^{\circ}C}$ and from 7.31 to 8.70, respectively. Water temperature of Mara-do was about 1-2${^{\circ}C}$ higher than the other stations. Salinity varied from 30.4 to 35.0 psu with the minimum in rainy season and the maximum at the end of winter. The concentration of NH$_4$-N, NO$_3$-N, NO$_2$-N, PO$_4$-P and SiO$_2$-Si ranged 0.07-6.79, 1.0-62.0, 1.0-8.0, 1.0-7.0 and 7.0-191.0 $\mu$g-at L$^{-1}$, respectively. Chlorophyll a concentrations varied from 0.10 to 1.17 $\mu$g L$^{-1}$. NH$_4$-N concentrations were high at U-do from May to December, and at Mara-do from January to February. The high concentrations of NO$_3$-N were found at Mara-do from June to September and at U-do from January to May. The effects of various physicochemical parameters on the seasonal distribution and succession of phytoplankton population suggest that there is a classical pattern of phytoplankton dynamics in Jeju coastal waters.
The seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton and trophic state were evaluated weekly at three sites in the Lake Unmoon from May to November 2001. The seasonal succession pattern of phytoplankton community in the Lake Unmoon showed that the dominant species were; i) diatoms during the late spring, ii) dinoflagellates in June, iii) blue green algae, diatoms and dinoflagellates in July, iv) green algae and blue green algae in August, v) blue green algae in September and early November, and vi) diatoms in November. Members of Microcystis were dominant from middle August to late October and members of Aulocoseira appeared as important species in autumn in the Lake Unmoon. The concentration of chlorophyll-a ranged from 2.4 to 23.0 mg ${\cdot}m^{-3}$ (average: 8.6 mg ${\cdot}m^{-3}$) during the study period. Concentrations of total phosphorus were high during the period from July to November with the maximum of 0.028 mg ${\cdot} l^{-1}$. The average N/P ratio was 121, indicating that concentrations of phosphorus may determine the high algal biomass in the Lake Unmoon. Concentrations of silicate were higher in the Lake Unmoon (average value: 10.016 mg ${\cdot}$ l-) than in other lakes (average values: 1.074-4.408 mg ${\cdot}$ l-), suggesting high potential of diatom growth. The average trophic state index in the Lake Unmoon was 52, which was close to eutrophic state, and the trophic state trend was increasing steadily since 1999.

Eutrophicated water fed through Mankyeong River and Dongjin River into the new Saemankeum Lakemight seriously affect the water quality and phytoplankton community in the lake. To obtain control reference data for the later studies on environmental changes due to the construction of the Saemankeum Sea Wall, we performed a monthly investigation on the physico-chemical properties of the water and phytoplankton community at 3 stations in the Mankyeong River Estuary over 14 months starting from September 1999. Water temperature ranged from $0.3{\sim}32.9^{\circ}C$ due to the typical seasonal variations in temperate on the coasts and salinity exhibited a wide annual range of $0.2{\sim}33.7$ psu along with regular and huge hourly variations according to tidal cycles. Inorganic nutrients were supplied from rivers to the monitoring station and the whole lake. The average concentration of total-N, $6.99\;mg{\cdot}l^{-1}$, was higher than the water quality for agricultural use with peak values occurring in winter. Species composition showed a seasonal succession pattern, where a high diversity was observedin summer and autumn and vice versa in winter. Hourly variations of water properties in the "Mankyeong bridge" Station were quite regular and well in accordance with the daily tidal cycles. The different degree of sea water intrusion during the flood tide at each of the 3 stations exhibited a different range and variation pattern of water temperature and salinity throughout a day. Hourly changes in species composition were in harmony with the daily tidal cycles, resulting in extremely variable spatio-temporal variation.
This study was conducted to analyze the perception and observance of traditional Korean holidays and preparation of traditional Korean holiday foods among university students in Seoul and the Gyeonggi area in order to further develop modernize and globalize the foods. The analysis revealed that the traditional Korean holidays with the highest perception and observance was Seollal, followed by Chuseok, Jeongwaldaeboreum, Dongji, Dano and Sambok. Traditional Korean festival foods such as Ddukgook, Mandoogook, Sikhye, Injeolmi, Yookgeijang, Kalgooksoo, Songpyon, Galbizzim, Soondubu and Samgyetang also scored high in perception and preparation. Schools were the most frequent route of introduction to Korean traditional festival foods at a rate of 41.6%. Special educational institutions and schools were also high at introduction rates of 38.3% and 19.5% respectively. The results of this study show that traditional Korean festival foods need to be further developed, as the succession of traditional food culture was the highest among 61.4% and 41.3% of the respondents who answered that the 'standardization of flavor, nutrition and cookery' is the most necessary action to popularize seasonal specialty foods.

In case of leaving artificial slopes resulting from large-scale constructions, there may be secondary damage caused by soil loss due to erosion and collapse. Furthermore, slope-restoring constructions have a few problems such as monotonous landscape and difficult succession of secondary vegetation due to reckless use of exotic grass, despite attaining the initial purpose of revegetation. To settle this problem, selected plants deemed to be proper for revegetation were used on one of thin vegetation base methods, CODRA SYSTEM, and made seeding mixture experimental plots considering germination rates differing in each season. Native herbs, native shrubs and exotic herbs contents were increased by 30% and 50% respectively, centered on seeding quantity(30g/$m^2$) used as design standard in the seed spray method, in order to figure out proper quantity for revegetation in each season.
The purpose of this study is to analyze causation of Ecosystem service's trade-off(ES trade-off) and to establish baseline data for wise spatial planning and management. In order to understand why and how ES trade-off occurs, systems thinking and causal loops were employed. The causal loop of ecosystem service creation cycle includes profits quantification process, decision making process, spatial planning and management process, and ecosystem services creation process. The profits quantification process has a limitation that all ecosystem service categories were not included in profits quantification, because quantification method for cultural services is insufficient. These problems led to unequal discussion opportunity in decision making process. ES trade-off occurs through transition of ecosystem function in spatial scale and temporal scale. In spatial scale, land-use variation and resource-use variation contribute to change an ecosystem function for different ES category by spatial planning and management. In temporal scale, a change of an ecosystem function for different ES category is influenced by ecological succession, seasonal change and land cover variation, which are parameter from environmental features. This study presented that spatial planning and management should ecosystem service assessment in order to enhance balanced ecosystem services.
This study was carried out to investigate phytoplankton community structure in the Naktong river from January to December in 1999. In water quality, average value of pH were 8.1, BOD 2.5mg/$\ell$, COD 5.0mg/$\ell$, Chl-a 41$\mu\textrm{g}$/$\ell$, and $NH_4^+-N$ 0.08mg/$\ell$, respectively. Phytoplankton were identified 42 genera 76 species. Among these, diatoms were 39 species(51.3%), green algae 25 species(32.9%), cyanobacteria 4 species(5.3%), dinoflagellates 4 repectively. The highest standing crops were 33,023 cells/$m\ell$ in February at the Mulgum and the lowest 79 cells/$m\ell$ in March at the Goryung. Also, Standing crops were increased with proceeding from middle part to lower part. Seasonal succession of phytoplankton represented that Stephanodiscus hantzschii was dominant species in winter, Cyclotella menaghiniana and Synedra acus in spring, C. meneghiniana, S. acus, Aulacoseira granulata var. angustissima in summer, and A. granulata var. angustissima and C. meneghiniana in autumn. Ecological important species were 4 species, that are Stephanodiscus hantzschii, Cyclotella meneghiniana, Synedra acus, and Aulacoseira granulata var. angustissima. In the community analysis, dominance indices ranged from 0.434(August, Namji) to 0.999(January, February, Mulgum) and diversity indices from 0.026(February, Mulgum) to 3.073(September, Namji). According to the similarity index among the stations, it was generally defind as two areas such as middle(Goryung, Namji and Samryangjin) and lower part(Mulgum).
The zooplankton community of Lake Paldang, Korea, was investigated on a weekly basis from 2004 to 2006. The seasonal succession of zooplankton community structure was influenced by hydrological factors such as rainfall pattern and efflux in Lake Paldang. According to the monsoon climate, spring, fall and winter had reduced precipitation, so that zooplankton dynamics of the lake showed a typical succession pattern. In spring, small sized and faster growing rotifera rapidly increased, and copepods and cladocera noticeably increased thereafter. Rotifera dominated the zooplankton community, occupying more than 90% of total zooplankton abundance. Among rotifera, Keratella cochlearis was extremely dominant in spring. Copepoda were mainly present as Copepodid and Nauplius. Among cladoceran species, Bosmina longirostris was dominant. In summer, during the rainy season, zooplankton were flushed out by an associated dam. After the rainy season, rotifera increased rapidly when the water column of the lake was stable. During the fall, zooplankton abundance gradually reduced in accordance with decreasing water temperature. However, the occupation rate of copepod (Copepodid, Nauplius) increased relatively. Zooplankton dynamics were influenced by meteorological changes and hydraulic-hydrological factors, because Lake Paldang is a completely closed ecosystem.
