  • This study examined the relation between personality types and users' searching trait and satisfaction when interacting with OPAC system. In this study, personality type was measured by the KEPTI Enneagram tools. Data was collected through four questionnaires, pre-test, TaskA, TaskB, and post-test survey. The results indicated that there was a statistically significant difference in perceptions on the expected ease of search, completion time, adequacy of search time, usefulness of search results, and performed ease of search within the Three Triads of Enneagram. Also a statistically significant difference was found on familiarity and interest in the selected queries within the Hornivian group.

  • There are lots of Web materials in the field of medicine and many search engines classify the medical materials on the Web through directories. But the organization of these directories are wanting in consistency and systematization. In order for manager of search engines to organize medical materials on the Web systematically, this paper suggests several guidelines. NLMC, a special classification system for medicine, need to be applied to develop directories of medicine in search engines. Also, items of the directories should be arranged based on the relevance of subjects among subfields of medical science. For classifying an item to several directories repeatedly, clear criteria should be established. In addition to, controlled vocabularies or glossaries for medicine such as MeSH and the English-Korean, Korean-English Medical Terminology Collection should be used for selection of the name of items in medical directories.

  • While numerous studies have suggested the significance of uncertainty during the process of information-seeking, less research has investigated user uncertainty in the actual search process using a real system. This study investigated user perceptions of uncertainty in the process of the selection of Web search terms in the real information-seeking process. The subjects at the doctoral or post-doctoral level were limited to the discipline of science in order to understand user perceptions in this field. The findings revealed various dimensions, types, and incidents of uncertainty. The typology of uncertainty facilitated an understanding of the subjects' information-seeking context by identifying various aspects of the context that constituted the subjects' uncertainty The identification of two principal origins of uncertainty based on the different types of uncertainty generated implications to improve information systems and services.

  • The Probabilistic Traveling Salesman Problem (PTSP) is an important topic in the study of traveling salesman problem and stochastic routing problem. The goal of PTSP is to find a priori tour visiting all customers with a minimum expected length, which simply skips customers not requiring a visit in the tour. There are many existing researches for the homogeneous version of the problem, where all customers have an identical visiting probability. Otherwise, the researches for the heterogeneous version of the problem are insufficient and most of them have focused on search base algorithms. In this paper, we propose a simple construction algorithm to solve the heterogeneous PTSP. The Minimum Expected Length Insertion (MELI) algorithm is a construction algorithm and consists of processes to decide a sequence of visiting customers by inserting the one, with the minimum expected length between two customers already in the sequence. Compared with optimal solutions, the MELI algorithm generates better solutions when the average probability is low and the customers have different visiting probabilities. We also suggest a local search method which improves the initial solution generated by the MELI algorithm.

  • Recently, there is the trend that online and reuse have been focused via digitalization of information and business process that individuals, government and firms own. This study, by designing and implementing a system, has the aim to provide on-line information about the classes and related classes to students on real time. Furthermore, with this system, the students can easily search the necessary class information and understand the curriculum structure. Thus he or she can make a decision about classes and moreover his and her career development. Also this system has been designed to be managed with ease and has more expandibility. Thus this is expected to affect the effort of universities and research centers that the online systems and digital contents have been more applied in order to adapt toward rapidly changing education environment.

  • How to efficiently manage assembly blocks at shipyard has been a hot management issue in the shipbuilding Industry, because it has significantly influenced on the productivity of shipbuilding process. This paper introduces the real practice of assembly block operations management in Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the Ship Assembly Block Operations Optimization (SABOO) project that h3s been launched in HHI as an academy-and-industry collaborative project, aimed to diagnose problems, propose possible solutions, and develop a prototype system in order to search ways of improving the assembly block operations management. Through the field interviews, observations, and benchmarking studies, the SABOO project diagnosed the most rudimental and urgent problem and proposed possible solutions. In addition, the SABOO project developed the prototype system that embodied the visual function of monitoring the shipyard on a real-time and the Interactive block assignment function that utilized the assembly block assignment algorithm developed by the project. As a whole, the SABOO project tested the possibility and gained an insight in extending the functions of block transportation/stockyard management system.

  • Multi-agent systems are mostly used to integrate the intelligent and distributed approaches to various systems for effective sharing of resources and dynamic system reconfigurations. Object replication is usually used to implement fault tolerance and solve the problem of unexpected failures to the system. This paper presents the intelligent multi-agent distributed platform based on the dynamic object group management and proposes an object search technique based on the proposed filtered k-means (Fk-means). We propose Fk-means for the search mechanism to find alternative objects in the event of object failures and transparently reconnect client to the object. The filtering range of Fk-means value is set only to include relevant objects within the group to perform the search method efficiently. The simulation result shows that the proposed mechanism provides fast and accurate search for the distributed object groups.

  • Cyber Textbook Museum is created by the Korean Educational Development Institute in part of the project to manage the knowledge and information of Korea to promote understanding of Korean education and its history. The original and full text of textbooks dating from the 1890s to the present have been digitized and arranged for easy access over internet. An exclusive portal site dealing with Korean textbooks and curriculum materials was made to provide not only the directory service of textbooks and curriculums in diverse data classifications, school levels, years/periods and subjects but also the keyword search by searching engine. Users can search the necessary materials easily and systematically over the screen and use all the functions except save, capture and print. The management system for textbook image(DjVu format), search system and DRM(Digital Rights Management) system were developed. Finally, four suggestions are proposed which are related in the aspects of policy, technical, systematic aspects for active and tremendous use of the site.

  • This paper describes the development of a data management system which manages the database on World Wide Web(WWW). It is the pa.0 of WISIF(Web-based geographic Information System for Irrigation Facilities) which is a prototype of an information management system for irrigation facilities. This system includes a web serve. and a RDBMS(Relational DataBase Management System). Netscape Enterprise Server 3.0 is used for a web server and for the latter, Oracle DBMS 7.3 for NT is used for a RDBMS. Users can cornet the database through a web browser, such as Netscape Communicator, to insert, update, delete and search data they want

  • Researches of current PMIS(Project Management Information System) information searching focus on providing personalized results as well as matching needed queries in an enormous amount of information. This paper aim at discovering hidden knowledge to provide personalized and inferred search results based on the ontology with categorized concepts and relations among construction data. The current PMIS searching occasionally presents too much redundant information or offers no matching results from large volumes of data. In this paper, we propose a service searching system, which becomes aware of users device using iPMIS(Intelligent Program Management Information System). And we design and plant the ontology-based iPMIS, which is aware of the context in its environment.
