대하 (Fenneropenaeus chinensis) 양식장 사육수에 미치는 Probiotics의 효과 (Effect of Probiotics on Water Quality in the Shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis) Ponds)

  • Applications of probiotics to shrimp ponds were carried out to determine their effects on water quality. Fermented solutions consisting of Bacillus spp. and Nitrosomonas spp. were applied to a 4 ha shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis) pond from July to September, 2000. In the pond treated with probiotics, daily variations of DO and pH, and concentrations of DIN and DIP were lower than those in the ponds without probiotic treatment. Concentration of phytoplankton was less variable and the number of species was more variable in the probiotic-treated pond than those in the control pond. Variation of bacterial numbers and the number of Vibrio spp. were lower in the treated pond than those in the control pond. It is confirmed that the probiotics can be used to improve water quality of the shrimp ponds.

  • It is essential for port planning, coastal zone management and environmental impact study to analyze the variation of current and water quality due to the development of water area and discharged water from estuary barrage and basin etc. Mokpo sea area downstreams from a long river and two large basins, the Yongsan river and Yongam-Kumho basins discharging much of water through water gates for the purpose of flood control and prohibition of salt intrusion to the inland fresh water area. In this study, the numerical calculations were carried out for the analysis of diffusion characteristics due to discharging operation, adapting the results of tidal current simulation ADI methord is applied to the governing equation for the movement of sea water and diffusion and 6-point method to the advection terms of diffusion equation. As the results of this study, it is known that the discharging operation causes increasing and/or decreasing of current velocity and enlarging and/or depressing of pollutant diffusion limits depending on the distance from the discharging gates and the mode of discharging operation. To utilize these result, the linked gate operation and the method increasing exchange of sea water must be considered.

해양심층수를 활용하여 제조한 식육가공품의 안전성 및 이화학적 품질평가 (Safety and Physicochemical Quality Evaluation of Processed Meat Products Using Deep Sea Water)

  • 해양심층수는 수심 200 m보다 깊은 심층(深層)에 위치하고 있어 차가운 온도를 유지하고 있으며, 대장균 및 일반세균 등에 의해서도 오염 되지 않은 깨끗한 해수이다. 해양심층수는 산업적 가치가 높은 재생순환형 자원이기 때문에 이를 상업적으로 이용하기 위한 활동이 활발히 전개되고 있다. 해양심층수를 기존 식육가공품의 염지제 대체제로서, 최적인 해양심층수 처리수를 적용한 시제품을 일반 식육가공품 소세지와 비교하여 안전성과 품질특성, 미네랄 함량차이를 알아보았다. 이를 통하여 해양심층수의 염지액 대체제로서의 가능성을 검토하고 이를 이용하여 제작한 식육가공품의 품질을 검토한 결과, 안전성과 품질특성에서는 일반 식육가공품 소세지와 차이가 없었으나, 미네랄 함량은 해양심층수를 적용한 축산가공품이 더 높았다. 이를 통하여 해양심층수는 소금의 대체제와 청정미네랄로 그 활용도가 높아서 해양심층수를 이용한 새로운 식품시장이 크게 활성화될 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 식품공전 규격 검사에 의한 안전성 평가 시험방법을 이용하여 품질검사항목 분석에 의한 품질특성 평가 및 유통기한 경과에 의한 안정성을 검토하고, 시험군과 대조군간의 미네랄 함량 시험을 진행하여 그 함량을 비교, 분석한 결과 후속 연구를 통한 식품, 의약품 및 축산업에 다양하고 차별화된 식육가공품을 제조할 수 있는 가능성이 있다고 판단하였다.

한국 서해 중부 연안역의 수질환경 특성 (Water Quality Characteristics Along Mid-western Coastal Area of Korea)

  • Spatial-temporal variations in physiochemical water qualities (temperature, salinity, DO, SPM, POC and nutrients) of surface and bottom waters were investigated along the mid-western coastal area (Taean Peninsula to Gomso Bay) of Korea. Spatial distribution patterns of temperature and salinity were mostly controlled by the physical mixing process of freshwater from Geum River and/or Gyunggi Bay with nearby coastal water. A strong tidal front is formed off Taean Peninsula during spring and summer. Seasonal variations in nutrient concentrations, lower in spring and summer and higher in fall and winter, are primarily regulated by magnitude of phytoplankton occurrence rather than freshwater loadings into the bay. Based on seasonal and spatial variability of physicochemical parameters, water quality of the study area can be divided into four water masses; Gyunggi Bay-influenced Water Mass (GBWM), Geum River-influenced Water Mass (GRWM), Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water Mass (YSBCWM) and Cheonsu Bay Water Mass (CBWM). Water quality of the GBWM (Taean Peninsula coastal area), which has relatively low salinity and high concentrations of nutrients, is strongly controlled by the Gyunggi Bay coastal water, which is under influence of the Han River freshwater. In this water mass, the mixed layer is always developed by strong tidal mixing. As a result, a tidal front is formed along the offshore boundary of the mixed layer. Such tidal fronts probably play an important role in the distribution of phytoplankton communities, SPM and nutrients. The GRWM, with low salinity and high nutrients, especially during the flood summer season, is closely related to physiochemical properties of the Geum River. During the flood season, nutrient-enriched Geum River water mass extends up to 60 km away from the river mouth, potentially causing serious environmental problems such as eutrophication and unusual and/or noxious algal blooms. Offshore (<$30{\sim}40m$ in water depth) of the study area, YSBCWM coupled with a strong thermocline can be identified in spring-summer periods, exhibiting abundant nutrients in association with low temperature and limited biological activity. During spring and summer, a tidal front is formed in a transition zone between the coastal water mass and bottom cold water mass in the Yellow Sea, resulting in intensified upwelling and thereby supplying abundant nutrients to the GBWM and GRWM. Such cold bottom water mass and tidal front formation seems to play an important role in controlling water quality and further regulating physical ecosystem processes along mid-western Korean coastal area.

아므르불가사리(Asterias amurensis)의 배우자를 이용한 남해해역 연안해수의 생물학적 수질평가 (Biological Evaluation of off-shore Water Quality in Southern Coastal Waters with Asterias Aurensis Gametes)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate off-shore water quality and to draw marine pollution map to Southern sea in Korea by bioassay using gametes and early development system of Asterias amurensis. From the bioassay, it was determined that the water qualites of Southern sea maintained the grade II, because development of A. amurensis were moderately inhibited. However, Sunchon, Kwangyang, and Jinhae Bay belonged to grade III, because development of A. amurensis were strongly inhibited. This could be due to the inflows of several river systems and poor water circulation. The water quality at Yosu island was the grade I, because A. amurensis were not inhibited in its early development.

  • The present study was conducted in three fields at Namhae to examine the removal efficiency of organic free, heavy metal immobilized sediment on Cochlodinium polykrikoidesand and on sea water quality. The present study results concluded that removal efficiency was depends on the initial number of red tide cells. There was no drastic change in the sea water quality after sediment spray. For the comparison of effectiveness of betonite, zeolite and lime were mixed with sediment did not show any marked difference in removal. Finally, the present study evaluated 50g/$m^{2}$ sediment is sufficient to remove 100% cells density, even though various environmental factors are interfering the mechanism.

  • Many countries, including Korea, suffer from a shortage of freshwater. With increases in population and the quality of life, along with large-scale expansion in industrial and agricultural activities, more freshwater is needed. Available resources, Including ground water, are limited, and desalination presents the opportunity for a new unlimited source of freshwater from the sea. The objectives of this study were to test membrane performance in seawater desalination and to examine the quality of water produced. bath well and sea water were used as water sources. Typically used membrane for seawater desalination and high rejection seawater desalination membrane are maintained at almost same recovery rate and permeate flux, while the conductivity was lower in the operation of typically used seawater membrane. The treated water quality using two types of membranes is satisfied with the Korea drinking water quality standards.

부산항의 개발단계별 수질환경변동특성에 관한 연구 (On the Characteristics of the Water Quality Changes due to the Development Phases of Pusan Port)

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of the water quality variation in relation to the change of water exchange rate with respect to the development phases of the Pusan port. To clarify the characteristics, water exchange caused by the variations of coastline shape and water surface area was examined by the numerical experiments using the Lagrangian particle tracking model based on 2-D shallow water equation. As the results of numerical experiments, it was proved that the water exchange in the Pusan port was decreased mainly due to the port development and the breakwaters construction. During the port development phases from 1875 to 1998, 35% of the sea-space in the port had decreased to make hinterland spaces. This resulted in the loss of wet-land and coastline change as well as decrease of the water exchange rate at the sea side. The city population in that period had rapidly increased from several thousands to 4 millions, resulting in the large discharge of sewages into the port area. Under the these environmental conditions, it can be clearly said that the water quality in the Pusan port is sensitively affected by the discharge of urban sewages decrease of the water exchange rate in relation to port and urban developments. In the study, the temporal changes of water quality were discussed with respect to the port development phases. It was clear that the water quality wad controlled by the exchange rate change under the port development as well as the input impact into the port from the urbanized city area. To make clean sea of the Pusan port, it is suggested that the sewage control, the water exchange and coastline control should be systematically checked under the concept of eco-friendly development and environmental management.

가로림연안 수질환경의 특성과 장기변동 (Long-term Variation and Characteristics of Water Quality in the Garolim Coastal Areas of Yellow Sea, Korea)

  • 1997년부터 2008년까지 12년 동안 가로림연안 수질환경의 특성과 장기변동 경향을 조사하였다. 3개 조사정점에서 수층(표층, 저층)별 및 계절별로 년 4회 수온, 염분, 부유물질, 화학적산소요구량, 용존산소, 영양염류, 클로로필 a에 대해 조사한 결과, 표층수와 저층수 간에 수온을 제외한 진조사항목에서 표 저층간의 차이가 없었다. 공간적 분포특성은 모든 조사항목에서 정점간 유의적인 차이가 없어 가로림만 중간부터 외측으로 원활한 해수교환이 이루어지고 있었다. 계절별로는 수소이온농도와 암모니아질소을 제외한 조사 항목에서는 유의성이 입증되었고, 정점별로 대체로 비슷한 변화폭을 나타내었다. 12년 동안 수질의 장기 변동은 네 그룹으로 구분되어 항목에 따라 부분적으로 차이가 있으나 전반적 장기 변동을 조사한 결과 근래에 들어 염분은 높아진 반면, 용존무기질소, 질산질소 및 화학적산소요구량 등이 감소하고 있어 담수의 유입이 거의 없는 대체로 양호한 수질상태를 유지하고 있으며 수산학적으로 매우 중요한 연안으로 앞으로 지속적인 보전이 요구된다.
