Mean opinion score (MOS) method has been used in many areas to quantify opinions of respondents not only in survey research but in evaluating the parameters of population that are not measurable of are technically hard to be measured. Histogram is an important graphical technique because of the role it plays in describing categorical data as well as quantitative. In MOS method, subjective opinions of respondents are quantified by opinion scores and the arithmetic means of opinion scores have been used to describe the interesting population. Since opinion scores are polytomous, the values of arithmetic means have little meanings. In this paper, cumulative percentage curves as a function of the means of opinion scores are derived by combining means of opinion scores and histograms. It is proposed for better interpretation to opinion scores in MOS method, one of subjective evaluation methods.
The test for the identification of verbally gifted children was administered to 323 gifted and average primary school children. Listening, reading, writing were analyzed by statistical methods, and speaking was videotaped for analysis of the interview and discussion process. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ confirmed reliability of the test. There were significant correlations between item scores and total scores. Concurrent validity was indicated by correlations between total scores and language arts scores. The test showed differences between the gifted and average children in reading and writing scores for the 2nd and the 3rd graders, and in listening and reading scores for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Analysis of speaking ability showed that the gifted children expressed their ideas more logically and creatively than the average children.
The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of sex and sex role identity on marital satisfaction. The short-from Bem Sex Role Inventory(BSRI) and Marital satisfaction Scale (MSS) were administered to the married men (n=90) and women (n=130) in Pohaing City. The data were analysed by two-way ANOVA and the Scheff method of multiple comparison. Major findings were as follows: 1. Marital satisfaction was significantly related to sex role identity rather than to sex: The androgynous group reported the highest marital satisfaction scores, whereas the undifferentiated group did the lowest scores. 2. There was no significant sex difference in marital satisfaction socres among the masculine, androgynous, and undifferentiated groups except the feminine one. Only in the feminie group, males who had high feminity scores reported high marital satisfaction scores, whereas females who had high femininity scores reported low marital satisfaction scores.
Purpose: To determine the efficacy of the SDBBA (Subtalar distraction bone block arthrodesis) procedure on patients with late complication of intra-articular calcaneal fractures including subtalar joint arthritis and anterior ankle impingement syndrome. Materials and Methods: Five cases in which the SDBBA procedure was implemented were followed for more than one year. All five patients were male with an average age of 56. Clinically, the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score and the pain score were assessed. Radiographically, the talocalcaneal height and the talar inclination angle were determined. Results: All five patients achieved subtalar joint fusion. The average pre-operative AOFAS score was 22.8 scores (range, 8-32 scores). At last follow-up, these scores improved to an average of 72.4 scores (range, 64-82 scores). The average pre-operative pain score was 8.2 scores (range, 7-10 scores). At last follow-up, these scores improved to an average of 13.2 (range, 12-15 scores). The average pre-operative talocalcaneal height was 72.8 mm (range, 70-77 mm), average post-operative talocalcaneal height improved to 79.8 mm (range, 78-84 mm). At final follow-up, these measurement was slightly decreased to average 78.6 mm (range, 74-83 mm). The average pre-operative talar inclination angle was 13.2 degrees (range, 12-15 degrees), average post-operative talar inclination angle improvedto 19.2 degrees (range, 15-24 degrees). At final follow-up, these measurement was slightly decreased to average 18.6 degrees (range, 12-24 degrees). Four patients achieved successful outcomes. One patient developed a wound infection with subsequent sural neuropathy as well as collapse of the bone graft. Conclusion: This study shows that the SDBBA procedure successfully restores the talocalcaneal height and tibio-talar relationship. This procedure is useful in surgically managed patients with talo-calcaneal height loss and anterior ankle impingement syndrome due to the late complications of calcaneal intra-articular fractures.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between Ryodoraku and two pattern-identification questionnaires in patients with Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). Methods: The study participants were 30 patients with BMS who visited the Oral Diseases Clinic of Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Hospital from June to November, 2019. The Ryodoraku test and two pattern-identification questionnaires were administered to all patients. Measurements included the average Ryodoraku score, which is called the Total Average (TA), and each score on the Ryodoraku point scale. The degree of Yin-deficiency, Qi-stagnation, and pain were assessed with the Yin-deficiency Questionnaire (YDQ), Qi-stagnation Questionnaire (QSQ), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), respectively. Results: The average TA score was 29.90. The LF5 (p=0.013) and RF5 (p=0.016) scores were lower than the TA scores, and the RH5 (p=0.020) and RH6 (p=0.006) scores were higher than the TA scores. A negative correlation was detected between the YDQ scores and the LH1 (r=-0.366, p=0.046), LH2 (r=-0.507, p=0.004), LH3 (r=-0.374, p=0.042), RH1 (r=-0.361, p=0.050), RH2 (r=-0.403, p=0.027) points. The LF5 (p=0.050) and RF2 (p=0.048) scores were lower in the patients with Qi-stagnation patients than without Qi-stagnation. Conclusions: Our results suggest that low TA and Ryodoraku scores on LF5 and RF5 and high Ryodoraku scores on RH5 and RH6 could be quantitative indicators for the diagnosis of BMS. The LH1, LH2, LH3, RH1, RH2, LF5, and RF2 scores could also be an indicators for diagnosis of Yin-deficiency and Qi-stagnation in patients with BMS.
The purpose of this study was to assess and compare discrepancy in the scores of uncertainty perceived by patients and nurses' interperson perception. For this study, 124 hospitalized patients and the same numbered nurses assigned for direct care of each 124 patients were selected from general ward of C. University Hospital in Seoul during the time period from September to November 1987. Degree of uncertainty was measured by 27 items modified from Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS), and was utilized by a Likert type scale The data were analysed by Mcnemar-test. Unpaired t-test. ANOVA, Scheffe - test and Stepwise multiple regression. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The discrepancy in the scores of uncertainty perceived by patients and nurses' interperson perception showed significant differences in 23 of 27 items : 11 of 23 items showed that the scores of patients' perception of uncertainty were higher than that of nurses' interperson perception of uncertainty. but 12 of 23 items were revealed reversely. 2. With regard to nurse's demographic variables, the discrepancy scores were the higest in the group under 22 years of age (F=3.20, p=.026) and in the group less than 1 year of nursing experience among 4 groups (F=4.41, p=.006). 3. The discrepancy scores had a tendency to be lowered in the higher age group(r= -.27. p=.0026) and in the longer experienced group (r=-.25, p=.0052). 4. The most important variable affecting the discrepancy scores was identified to be the nurses' age which acounted for 7.2% fo the total variances in the stepwise multiple regression analysis. This was followed by patient hospital days which accounted for an additional 4.5% of the total variances. To conclude, the discrepancy in the scores of uncertainty perceived by patients and nurses' interperson perception showed significant differences in 23 of 27 items. The discrepancy scores of uncertainty had a tendancy to be lowered in the higher age group and in the longer experienced group.
The purpose of this study was to Identify the self-actualization level of Junior College Nursing Students and to analyze the variables that may be related to self-actualization. A convenient sample of 346 students were selected from three colleges located in Seoul and Kyungki-Province. The data were collected using a direct survey method from September17to October 2, 1992. The instrument used for this study was the self-actualization test modified by Kim & Lee(1983). The collected data were analyzed using percentages, means, 1-test, X$^2$-test, ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation coefficient, with the SPSSPC$^{+}$ Package. The results of this study are as follows : 1) The self-actualization level of subjects was moderate. The subjects showed higher scores in the areas of Self actualizing Values and Nature of Man than the standardized normal groups. The subjects showed lower scores in the areas of Inner Directed Existentiality, Self acceptance and Capacity for Intimate Contact. 2) The subjects attending day junior colleges showed higher scores in the areas of Time competent, Existentiality and Self Acceptance than those attending college in the evening. The subjects attending evening junior colleges showed higher scores in the areas of Spontaneity than those attending college by day. 3) The junior students showed higher scores in the areas of Feel-ing Reactivity than freshman. The students with no religion showed higher scores in the areas of existentiality than those who had a religion. The group who had the experience of failure on the college entrance examination showed lower scores in the areas of Nature of Man than those without this experience. Those who chose their major voluntary showed scores higher in the areas of I nor Directed, Self Actualizing Values, Spontaneity and Self regard than the unsatisfied group. The group satisfied with college life showed higher scores in the areas of Time Competent, Inner Directed, Self Actualizing Values and Self Regard than the unsatisfied group. In conclusion self actualization level depends on motivation of choice, satisfaction with nursing as a major and satisfaction with college life. Therefore, and effective guidance program is required to improve motivation and satisfaction with nursing as a major and with college life.
The purpose of this study is to consider students′ scholastic relationship in mathematics between elementary school and middle school from the 3rd grade in elementary school to the 2nd and the 3rd grades in middle school. The following are the results: 1. CONCLUSIONS 1. Students′ present scores are most closely related to those of their previous grade. The data are based on the two groups of the 3rd grade middle school students - one is honhappan(mixed students from different elementary school) and the other shinaepan(the students from the same elementary school in kong ju city). This close relation between present and previous scores in mathematics may well be reasonable since mathematics is systemized hierarchically. Among the score data in elementary school, the scores in the 5th grade are meaningfully related to present score data in mathematics. 2. Two pans (as I mentioned above, honhap and shinae) are divided into groups and their scores are traced from the 3rd grade in elementary school and the data show that the high-levelled students have little changes in their scores, but low-levelled students have dropped radically in their scores from the first grade in middle school. 3. In terms of students′ interests, students who answered, "I′m very interested in mathematics." have no distinguished characteristics in their scores while those who answered, "I have little interest in mathematics" shows a decrease in their scores. 4. Among the reasons for their lack of interests, the replies are "because of exams," "because of teaching methods," and "because of the textbooks." II. Suggestion To compensate the limitation and difficiency of this study, the foll owing is suggested for the following studies related to this one. 1. This study was limited to gathering students′ score data from female students in a small city. For a more accurate statistic a bigger population is needed as well as varied geographical and social economical area is suggested. A good idea is to study homogeneous sex groups as well as heterogeneous sex groups 2. It is easy to find out what grade is closely related to the present scores by statistical analysis, but the reasons for their relationship have to be found out through the following studies 3. There are many studies on cognitive domain in math but it is expected to have more studies on affective domain as well.
PURPOSE. To assess removable prosthetic restoration tolerance according to the patient section of the short form of the Gagging Problem Assessment Questionnaire (GPA-pa SF) and the influence of gender, education level and prosthesis type and denture-related mucosal irritation on the GPA-pa SF scores before treatment and over a period of two months after prosthesis insertion. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 130 participants who required removable prosthesis were surveyed with a standard form that included questions regarding age, gender, education level, dental attendance, and prosthetic restoration type. Participants answered the GPA-pa SF before restoration (T0) and 1 day (T1), 2 days (T2), 15 days (T3), 1 month (T4), and 2 months (T5) after prosthesis insertion. RESULTS. Of the 130 participants, 110 participants completed the prosthetic restoration procedure, but only 93 of these were able to use the prosthesis over the two-month period. The mean GPA-pa SF score obtained at T0 was higher than the scores obtained at the other periods in the total of the sample. Significant difference was present between mean scores obtained at T0-T1 and T2-T3 than scores obtained at other periods (P<.05). Female participants and participants with denture-related mucosal irritation had higher GPA-pa SF scores at all time points analysed. Significant difference was present between mean GPA-pa SF scores obtained at T2-T3 than scores obtained at other periods for females and participants with denture-related mucosal irritation (P<.05). Education level and prosthesis type did not significantly influence the GPA-pa SF score at any time point analysed (P>.05). CONCLUSION. GPA-pa SF scores were higher before the restoration procedure began, and decreased over time with the use of prosthesis. Gender and denture-related mucosal irritation affected the GPA-pa SF scores.
Purpose: Precepted video review (PVR) has been considered one of the methods for the remediation of clinical performance examinations (CPX). This study quantified the effect of brief PVR on CPX scores. Methods: For two years, final-year students (61 students in the 1st year's cohort and 54 in the 2nd year's cohort) participated in CPXs. The scores on the initial CPX were announced to the students shortly after that CPX administration. There was no PVR after the initial CPX in the 1st year. All participants of the 2nd year were notified of the opportunity to voluntarily receive brief PVR after the initial CPX. Several months after the initial CPX, the students took the latter CPX in both years. The differences of scores between initial and latter CPX were compared in good performers and poor performers of the initial CPX. Results: Thirteen poor performers and 8 good performers received PVR in the 2nd year. In the 1st year, history taking (Hx), physical examination, and patient physician interaction (PPI) scores of the good performers of the initial CPX were significantly decreased on the latter CPX. In the 2nd year, the Hx and PPI scores of the good performers of the initial CPX, who received PVR, were significantly decreased at the latter CPX. The Hx and PPI scores of the poor performers of the initial CPX were significantly increased at the latter CPX in both years regardless of PVR. Conclusion: The changes in CPX scores according to PVR did not show any consistent trend. Brief PVR appears to be not sufficient for improving CPX scores.
