  • The study aimed to investigate a research trend in science gifted education of six years from 2010 to 2015 by utilizing literature analysis and Social Network Analysis (SNA) methods. In this study, 275 papers published in eight major academic journals of science education and gifted education were selected as research subjects. First, through the literature analysis, it was found that the most frequent research topics were cognitive characteristics (25.8%), curriculum/programs (22.6%), and social and emotional characteristics (20.2%). For the research method employed in research papers, the survey research (46.5%) was appeared as the most frequently employed method, and followed by experimental (18.8%), program development (10.6%), correlation (10.3%), and qualitative (6.4%) research methods. The most frequent research subject was appeared as middle school students (33.7%) and followed by elementary school (30.6%), and high school (12.7%) students. Second, the SNA method was utilized for producing keyword frequency, degree centrality and network analyses. It was appeared that the most common keywords over six years included 'science gifted', 'gifted education', and 'creativity' and frequent keywords were science gifted, gifted education, gifted, creativity, science inquiry, perception, (creative) problem solving, science high school, scientific attitude, and STEAM. Third, through 2-mode network analysis, it was found that the research papers about cognitive characteristics were mainly related to perceptions, thinking ability, scientific argumentation, science inquiry and so on. It was also found that the research papers about social and emotional characteristics were related to correlation, motivation, creativity-character, self-efficiency and so on. It was concluded that the SNA method can be performed with literature analysis together for better understandings and interpretations of the research trend of science gifted education in-depth.

  • Background The plastic surgery literature is vast, consisting of a plethora of diverse articles written by a myriad of illustrious authors. Despite this considerable archive of published material, it remains nebulous as to which precise papers have had the greatest impact on our specialty. The aim of this study was to identify the most cited papers in the plastic surgery literature and perform a citation analysis paying particular attention to the evidence levels of the clinical studies. Methods We identified the 50 most cited papers published in the 20 highest impact plastic surgery journals through the Web of Science. The articles were ranked in order of number of citations acquired and level of evidence assessed. Results The top 50 cited papers were published in six different journals between the years 1957 and 2007. Forty-two of the papers in the top 50 were considered as level IV or V evidence. No level I or II evidence was present in the top 50 list. The average level of evidence of the top 50 papers was 4.28. Conclusions In the plastic surgery literature, no positive correlation exists between a high number of citations and a high level of evidence. Anatomical reconstructive challenges tend to be the main focus of plastic surgery rather than pathologic diseases and consequently, papers with lower levels of evidence are relatively more valuable in plastic surgery than many other specialties.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe the trends and contents of literature in green library and to suggest the research direction on green library. Earlier studies focus on the green library architecture and necessity, after then green library management studies have proliferated. Green library architecture studies have emphasized on 'energy and atmosphere' and 'indoor environmental quality' based upon 5 categories of LEED evaluation system. Green library management studies have focused on library resources recycling and utilizing energy through effective management of library collection. Based on the analysis of literature, five research directions are suggested, such as the number of libraries in an area, library shelf position and space, library space program, collection ratio for library storage, and user studies.

  • In the training field where literature is used as a tool, some excerpts from its text are used, instead of its full text. Therefore, it is necessary to have empirical guidelines for which part of the text should be used as Memory-Hint, a part that reminds its reader of certain memory, and for how the text can be introduced effectively. For the study, Hesse's whole life and his literary characters were examined from a therapeutic perspective. First, while Hesse's life was reviewed and his characters were analyzed, Hesse was recognized for Self-therapeutic Life. He also lived a life of multimedia in which he practiced writing, painting, playing musical instruments, meditation, walking, etc. Second, Contents of Literature Therapy using Hesse's works were applied to the schizophrenic patients. Media used for the clinical study were mostly extracted from Hesse's works. They began to show interest in others and express their empathy on others, in addition to expressing their sentimental empathy on Hesse's texts. How effectively Hesse utilized multimedia during his lifetime will be good literary resources in helping improving modern-day people's mental health and curing their pathological problems.

  • Most patients treated by physical therapists have suffered some neurological trauma resulting from disease or injury. The traditional teaching used to be that damage of central neurons is irreversible. However, it has been necessary to cast aside this traditional view because of accumulating evidence that the brain is endowed with remarkable plasticity. This paper reviews the literature relating to neuroplasticity within the brain and draws implications pertinent to physical therapy practice.

  • Purpose: Effective literature searching is essential to support evidence-based nursing. The aim of this study was to present our recent systematic search experience to identify guidelines in PubMed for prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Methods: Five approaches to the literature search via PubMed were employed. The searches were restricted to items published from 1980 to 2010, for patients admitted to hospital, and in the English language. The search results were compared using the number of records and relevant items, and the sensitivity and precision of each search strategy. Results: The individual approaches retrieved 19-141 of records and 3-6 of relevant items. Sensitivity ranged from 37.5% to 75.0% with the highest values for simple searches and a search combining MeSH terms and free textwords with a methodological search filter. Precision varied from 4.3% to 21.7% and the highest precision was found for MeSH terms with limits feature. Conclusion: The simple search in PubMed is an appropriate way for nurses in a busy clinical practice to search the literature for evidence. However, several approaches using MeSH terms, free textwords, limits feature or methodological search filters are also required to have more efficient and better informed search results.

  • Purpose: To implement evidence-based nursing, it is important to know where and how to find the best available evidence. This study was conducted to identify the results of a search from Ovid MEDLINE and to compare the results from Ovid MEDLINE with those from PubMed MEDLINE. Methods: Four different approaches via Ovid MEDLINE were used to search for guidelines on preventing catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Outcomes of this study were the number of records and relevant literature, and the sensitivity and precision of the search methods via Ovid MEDLINE. Results: The number of retrieved items ranged 23 to 6,005 and that of relevant studies, 5 to 8 of 8. Simple searches resulted in the highest sensitivity of 100.0%. When using MeSH terms and limits feature, the precision was highest (21.7%) among four approaches for literature searches. Simple searches in Ovid had higher sensitivity and lower precision than those in PubMed. Conclusion: Simple searches in Ovid may be inefficient for busy clinicians compared to PubMed. However, to ensure a comprehensive and systematic literature search, using Ovid MEDLINE in addition to PubMed is recommended.

  • The government, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(MEST) presented a new policy that standardizes digital textbooks as a method to accept the change of education paradigm in 2006. Since 2007, MEST has begun to provide digital textbooks for some elementary schools. MEST proposes to change digital textbooks as a standard in elementary, middle, and high schools in the future. However, the use of digital textbooks has led to concern about the health of students. The purpose of this study was to identify health-adverse effects of the use of digital textbooks on the health of students. Literature reviews regarding digital textbooks including national and international literature were conducted. The literature reviews found the key physical and psychological factors to be considered in using digital textbooks. The physical factors were symptoms and signs associated with eye, musculoskeletal system, general health, and skin. The mental factors were 'burn out of study' and 'stress due to study'.
