  • The purpose of this study is to build a model that explains the relationship between and among five variables that are student background, teacher background, home environment, school characteristic, and student mathematics achievement, using structural equation modeling. Another purpose of this study is to compare the relationships of these variables between the United States and Korea in 7th and 8th grades mathematics. Student, teacher, and school background files from population 2 in the TIMSS were selected for this study. The result of the study provides practical information for teachers, parents, school principals, and other people who are interested in improving student achievement, and also provides the information that may explain differences and similarities between the US and Korea in mathematics achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of children's individual characteristic on peer acceptance. The subjects were 234 6th grade elementary school children in Kwangju, Korea. The Questionnaires were used to collect the data on peer acceptance and social behavioral trait, physical attractiveness, demographic variables and the school achievement grade assessed by their teachers. The results were as follows : 1. Peer acceptance score, school achievement grade, prosocial behavior score, appearance score and physical attractiveness tend to be above the median scores. Aggression behavior score and withdrawal score tend to below the median scores. 2. The effect of individual characteristic variables on the peer acceptance found all significantly. 3. The influence of prosocial behavior, physical attractiveness, withdrawal behavior, aggressive behavior and school achievement grade on peer acceptance were found significantly. Prosocial behavior was the most influential variable on peer acceptance.

  • The present study investigated differences in children's school achievement and emotional and social development by type of after-school care: self-care and mother-care. It also examined relationships between children's developmental outcomes and ecological variables, including individual, familial, and environmental variables by care methods. The data of 330 mother-care and 161 self-care children was provided by teachers, mothers, and the children themselves. The analyses of the data were conducted by t-test, correlation, and regression. Findings were that mother-care children had higher scores in grades, school adjustment and teacher relationship and lower depression and withdrawn behaviors than self-care children; after-school activities and peer support predicted the developmental outcomes of mother-care children; gender, autonomous ability, and behavior control predicted the development of self-care children.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of 4-value orientations on the financial management and the financial satisfaction of high school girls in Yanbian, China and those in South Korea. The subjects were 466 high school girls in Yanbian, China and 498 high school girls in South Korea. Cronbach'a, 1-test, and multiple regression were used as statistical analysis. The results were summarized as follows : 1) Resulting from the t-test, there were significant differences between 3-value orientations, 3-financial management behaviors, and financial satisfaction of the Yanbian girls and those of the Korean girls. 2) Resulting from multiple regression analysis, the financial management behaviors of school girls had the positive linear relationships with the variables such as 3-value orientations and country variable, The financial satisfaction of school girls had the positive linear relationships with the variables such as 4-value orientations and country variable.

  • This paper proposes an efficient and accurate power estimation method for Application Specific Instruction set Processors (ASIPs). Proposed method takes advantage of the data types of variables in application program to be executed on the ASIP. According to the experimental results, the efficiency of proposed method was more than 1000 times as high as that of conventional RTL based power estimation method, and the estimation error was within 10% compared to a conventional gate-level accurate power estimation method

  • The objectives of this study were (1) to measure the level of satisfaction on rural for local public service. (2) and analyse variables related to the public service. Reviewing the literature and related studies for theoretical framework, Six criteria characterize public service : (1) responsiveness. (2) convenience, (3) speed, (4) correctness, (5) pleasantness, (6) equality, which are reflected in the instrument of this study. By the results of analysis, two dimensions (convenience, responsiveness) and total satisfaction are related to their residential lengths of the same rural area. For the total public service satisfaction gender, age, educational level, income level, occupation, and residential years explained in 13.3% For the convenience dimension their variables accounted for 22.4%. For responsiveness dimension their variables interpreted in 23.2%. For speed and correctness dimension their variables explained in 21.6%. For pleasantness dimension their variables accounted for local public services in 15.3%. For equality dimension their variables explained in 16.2%.

  • In this article, a reduction method for nominal variables is presented and its use illustrated. Factor analysis model (FAM) generally enables us to reduce variables having interval or ratio scale based on their correlation coefficients. We developed an extensive method that makes FAM applicative to the case of nominal variables which does not give correlation coefficients, but only the degree of association. Cramer's V coefficient is a well-established measure that provides the strength of association for nominal variables with a range of [0,1]. When Cramer's V coefficient can logically substitute for correlation coefficient, FAM would be extensively used for reduction of nominal variables.

  • This study investigated the relationship between the types of parental abuse and maladjustmental behaviors of adolescents. The subjects were 448 junior and senior middle school students. Statistics were frequencies, percentile, Pearson's r-coefficient, and regression analysis. The main results of this study were as follows ; 1. There were significantly positive correlation between the types of parental abuse and maladjustmental behaviors. 2. The variables, neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, and physical abuse were found to be the important variables in predicting social withdrawal. Neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, and sex of the child were found to be the important variables in predicting hyperactivity. Neglect, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be the important variables in predicting aggression. Sex of the child, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be the important variables in predicting retreat. And, neglect and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be important variables in predicting obsessive-compulsion.

  • The major purpose of the present research was to examine the effect of adolescents's perception of parents' marital relationship and attachment with their parents on school adjustment. This study also tried to investigate the inter-relationship among related variables, and the differences in the level of school adjustment according to adolescents' general characteristics. The participants were 355 middle and high school students who lived in Chollabuk-Do province. The major results of this research were as follows. First, there were significant differences in the level of school adjustment according to sex, age, and grade point. average That is, the level of school adjustment was higher for males, for older adolescents, and for those recording higher grade point, than for females, for younger, and for those recording relatively lower grade point. Second, parents' marital relationship was positively correlated with positive aspects of attachment with their parents(i.e., communication and trust), and with school adjustment. but negatively correlated with negative aspect of attachment(i.e., alienation from their parents). Finally, multiple regression analyses were performed to analyze the relative significance of the related variables influencing on school adjustment after controlling the effect of sex, age, and grade point. It was found that communication with fathers was the most powerful predictor of school adjustment, while attachment with mothers was not found to be a significant predictor of school adjustment.

  • The major purpose of this study is to investigate the middle school students’consciousness and their participation of household work. The participants were 540 middle school students but the final data used in this study was 489. For the statistical analysis of this study, frequency, percentage, mean. standard deviation. Cronbach’s $\alpha$ coefficient, one way ANOVA, t-test. Duncan’s Multiple Range Test and Pearson’s correlation were calculated. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. It was appeared that the middle school students’consciousness and their participation of household work was high. 2. According to the household environmental variables. there was not any significant difference in the middle school students’consciousness of household work but there was significant difference in the middle school student’s participation of household work. 3. According to the school environmental variables there was not any significant difference in the middle school students’consciousness of household work, but there was significant difference in the middle school students’ participation of household work. 4. According to the degree of family life satisfaction, there was significant difference both in the middle school students’consciousness and in their participation of household work in whole categories. 5. According to the degree of Home Economics course cognition there was significant difference both in the middle school students’ consciousness and in their participation of household work in whole categories.
