The purpose of this study is to create a hypothetical model that explains and predicts oral health promotion behavior of adolescents by reviewing preceding literature on Pender's Health Promotion Model, and to verify the model's validity and proposed hypothesis through PLS (partial least square) structural equation model analysis. This study was cross-sectional survey consisted of self-administration questionnaires. The subjects in this study were a total of 293 alternative high school students in Jeollabuk-do Province. They were selected by convenience sampling. In alternative high school students, perceived benefit, locus of control, self-efficacy, and self-esteem had an effect on their oral health promoting behavior. As a result of the indirect effects in black is subjectively good subjective oral health, oral health related behaviors well past the more oral health promotion behavior showed a high. The prediction model of oral health promotion for adolescences, which was made using Pender's Health Promotion Model, was considered to be useful in explaining and predicting alternative high school students oral health promotion behavior.
International Safe School(ISS) model has focused as a public health approach to develop safety intervention to address injury problems in school setting. It needs school members involvement in partnership with community resources to address the needs for school based injury prevention and safety promotion. The characteristics and principles of ISS model discussed in this paper emphasizes participation, capacity and partnership building, evidence based process, and so on. A 7 criteria is introduced as ISS implementation strategy. Multilevel and multi-facet approaches are valuable on ISS as well as process evaluation. For the application of ISS model in Korea, finding evidence, building public health partnership between school and other public or private resources in community are necessary conditions for succesful ISS for health promotion in school setting.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual conditions and operational problems of Health Promotion Model School' in high school. Methods: We conducted a content analysis of 2014 results report and staffs' responses of five high schools among 85 'Health Promotion Model Schools' led by Ministry of Education from 2012 to 2014. Results: The study examined the operational process of health promoting schools in five stages; system development, needs survey & current status survey, school health policy development, program development & execution, and evaluation. Every step was found to be inadequate. In addition, the study discovered three key factors in operating health promoting schools and examined the status of each factor; connection with the curriculum, connection with the community, and consensus among members. Three factors were also applied poorly. Compared to elementary school, high school showed a lack of all respects. Health promoting school staffs have faced difficulties in linking community resources, organizing and operating a working committee, conducting surveys and assessing health problems, preparing self-assessment or external evaluation, and developing strategies and programs. In order to solve the operational problems, active cooperation of all teachers is urgent. Conclusion: 'Health Promotion Model School' conducted in high school is not considered to have faithfully implemented WHO's concept of health promoting school. In the future, incentive policies for health promoting school teachers should be actively reviewed.

Community action is an essential component for health promotion. Through effective community action, a community can gain control over its health & health determinants, and improve the quality of its life. The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO, 1984)stated that a health promotion program that stimulates and strengthens community health activity is one of the five main action areas in the field of health promotion. This paper reviews the meaning and key concept of community health promotion action, and discusses ways to strengthen community action as defined by the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. It discusses the principle of community participation for health promotion, and, taking a successful example of a community-based health promotion program, it provides an illustrative example of how to build partnerships and coalitions in a community. Community development theories for community-based approaches are also introduced, along with their key concepts. Finally, the paper assesses the barriers to effective community health promotion action in Korea, and proposes several strategies for strengthening community action for health promotion.
Objectives: This paper aims at addressing the importance of community-based health promotion. It would identify the origin of community health programs in Korea, which emphasized community involvement. And it would reveal the discontinuity of community-oriented health programs in the current health promotion activities. Finally, the methods of attaining community-based health promotion would be suggested. Results and Conclusion: Community-based health promotion had been implemented in rural areas by medical schools in the 1970s and 1980s, which emphasized the role of village health workers. But their roles has disappeared since the government-initiated health promotion policies and programs have been implemented in the mid-1990s. This paper addressed the factors contributing to this discontinuity, such as the expansion of heath insurance system, the change of health care discourses, the monopoly of resources for health promotion by government, and the bureaucratic approach to health promotion, etc. This paper suggested the utilization of voluntary and civic organizations in community for realizing the goal of community-based health promotion.

Objectives: This study was carried out to investigate the effects of improvement in health promotion behavior of nursing college students by the difference of self esteem. The students was divided two groups one is low level self esteem the other is high depending on median point of self esteem. The specific objectives were first, to find out the differences of health promotion behavior, self efficacy, health perception, fatigue level, depression, psychosocial wellbeing, second, to establish which factors determine their health promotion behavior between two groups. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were given to 262 students enrolled in a nursing college. between may and June 2008. The questionnaire items included age, sex, education level, self esteem, self efficacy, health perception, fatigue, depression,, psychosocial well being and health promotion behavior. For statistical analysis, frequency, t-test, regression used for determining the factors effecting health promotion behavior. Results: The influencing factors were self efficacy among low level and self efficacy, fatigue and stress among high level. Self efficacy strong positive impact on health promotion behavior among both groups. Stress and fatigue was only effective among high level group. Conclusion: Based on the study results, improvement of health promotion behavior among nursing students requires the development and application of programs to manage self efficacy and stress as a precondition for depending on self esteem level.

Objectives: Cigarette smoking is a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Bilirubin is a potent antioxidant and its concentration decreases in smokers. However, studies about the association between cigarette smoking and bilirubin are scarce and most are limited to total bilirubin. Additionally, bilirubin is highly related to hemoglobin. Therefore, this study evaluates the association between bilirubin subtypes and cigarette smoking in healthy Korean men independently of hemoglobin. Methods: This study included 48 040 Korean men aged 30 to 87 years who visited the Korea Medical Institute for routine health examinations from January to December, 2007. The association of smoking with total, direct, and indirect bilirubin was assessed by logistic regression analysis taking into consideration differences in subjects and smoking characteristics. Results: Current smokers had lower bilirubin concentrations than never-smokers and ex-smokers. Smoking amount and duration were inversely significantly associated with total, direct, and indirect bilirubin. In a multivariable adjusted model, compared to never-smokers, the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of current smokers with the highest number of pack-years were 1.7 (1.6 to 1.9) for total, 1.5 (1.4 to 1.6) for direct, and 1.7 (1.6 to 1.9) for indirect bilirubin. After further adjustment for hemoglobin, this association became stronger (OR [95% CI], 2.1 [1.9 to 2.2] for total; 1.9 [1.8 to 2.0] for direct; 2.0 [1.9 to 2.2] for indirect bilirubin). Conclusions: In this study, bilirubin subtypes are inversely associated with smoking status, smoking amount, and smoking duration in healthy Korean men independently of hemoglobin. Further studies are needed to investigate this association in healthy Korean women.
Purpose: This study was to investigate family functioning, self-concept and health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to find out the correlation among these variables. Method: The subjects were 277 students who participated voluntarily in the questionnaire. The instrument used in this study was family APGAR, self-concept and health promotion behavior tool. The data were collected from May 18th to 21st, 2004 with a self-administered questionnaire, using frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 10.0 win. Results: 1) The mean score of health promotion behavior by general characteristics was significant in educational status of mother (F=5.352, p=0.005), living standard (F=9.646, p=0.000) and perceived health status (F=8.349, p=0.000). 2) The mean score of family functioning was 3.57 (5 point scale), self-concept was 3.47 (5 point scale) and health promotion behavior was 3.67 (5 point scale). 3) In the relationship between family functioning and self-concept was correlated (r=.547), family functioning and health promotion behavior was correlated (r=.518) and self-concept and health promotion behavior was correlated (r=.670). 4) The most influencing variable was self-concept, accounting for 43% in stepwise multiple regression. A combination of self-concept, family functioning and perceived health status explained 47% of the variance for health promoting behavior. Conclusion: Considering the results above, we can recognize that there are close relations among the family functioning, self-concept and health promotion behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to elevate the level of self-concept and family functioning in order to get health promotion behavior of the elementary school students.
