We have investigated the contribution of the scattered x rays to the signal imaging in the radiographs acquired with anti-scatter grids of several grid ratios by separating the line spread functions (LSFs) derived from the signal edge image into the primary and the scatter components. By using a 1.0-mm lead plate in the scattering material, the blurred signal edge images were acquired by use of an imaging plate at a tube voltage of 80 kV with the anti-scatter grids of grid ratios for 5:1, 6:1, 8:1, 10:1 and 12:1. The edge profiles of the signal images were scanned and those in relative exposure were differentiated to obtain the LSFs. To investigate the contribution of the scattered x rays to the signal imaging, we proposed a method for separating the LSFs derived from the signal images into the primary and the scatter components, where the scatter component was approximated with exponential function. Our basic approach is to separate the area of the LSFs by ratios of the scattered x-ray exposure to the primary x-ray exposure, which were obtained for the grid ratios by use of a lead disk method. The LSFs and the two components were Fourier transformed to obtain the modulation transfer functions (MTFs) and their two components. As the result, we found that, by using the anti-scatter grids, the scattered x rays were reduced, but the shape of the LSFs of the scatter component hardly changed. The contributions of the scatter component to the MTFs were not negligible (more than 10 %) for spatial frequencies lower than about 1.0 mm$\^$-l/ and that was greater as the grid ratio decreasing. On the other hand, for higher frequencies, the primary component was dominant compared with the scatter component.
Background: X-ray imaging detectors for the nondestructive cargo container inspection using MeV-energy X-rays should accurately portray the internal structure of the irradiated container. Internal and external factors can cause noise, affecting image quality, and scattered radiation is the greatest source of noise. To obtain a high-performance transmission image, the influence of scattered radiation must be minimized, and this can be accomplished through several methods. The scatter rejection method using an anti-scatter grid is the preferred method to reduce the impact of scattered radiation. In this paper, we present an evaluation the characteristics of the signal and noise according to physical and material changes in the anti-scatter grid of the imaging detector used in cargo container scanners. Materials and Methods: We evaluated the characteristics of the signal and noise according to changes in the grid ratio and the material of the anti-scatter grid in an X-ray image detector using MCNP6. The grid was composed of iron, lead, or tungsten, and the grid ratio was set to 2.5, 12.5, 25, or 37.5. X-ray spectrum sources for simulation were generated by 6- and 9-MeV electron impacts on the tungsten target using MCNP6. The object in the simulation was designed using metallic material of various thicknesses inside the steel container. Using the results of the computational simulation, we calculated the change in the scatter-to-primary ratio and the signal-to-noise ratio improvement factor according to the grid ratio and the grid material, respectively. Results and Discussion: Changing the grid ratios of the anti-scatter grid and the grid material decreased the scatter linearly, affecting the signal-to-noise ratio. Conclusion: The grid ratio and material of the anti-scatter grid affected the response characteristics of a container scanner using high-energy X-rays, but to a minimal extent; thus, it may not be practically effective to incorporate anti-scatter grids into container scanners.
In this study, we have researched the effectiveness of silicone pad. A distribution of scatter ray in mammography was evaluated using Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation technique and then a silicone pad was applied to remove the scatter ray for improving image quality. Molybdenum target and Molybdenum filter combination made a difference of 59.8% to a number of photon at 17.5 keV. On the other hand, Tungsten target and Rhodium filter showed a variation of 24.5% at 20 keV. Mean 68 of SNR was increased in Selenia and mean 1.04 of SNR was raised in Senographe. Silicone pad was significantly effective to reduce the scatter ray that was generated by primary X-ray. It can decrease an absorption rate of scatter ray to patient body and whilst it improve the image quality from increasing SNR.

In this paper, we proposed a scheme for signal detection based on average of detected energy of frequencies for backscatter communications. We applied this scheme on the bistatic backscatter radio architecture for RF energy harvesting. Tags reflected entire RF signals on a same bandwidth when transmitted energy signals. Receivers can optimal switching antenna by this scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can precisely detect signals from tag with properly calculated parameters.
This study aims to present new chest AP examination exposure conditions through a study on the effect on image quality and patient dose by applying high tube voltage and scatter ray post-processing software during chest AP examination in digital radiography equipment. This study was used a human body phantom and in the chest AP position, the dosimeter was placed horizontally at the thoracic spine 6. The experiment was conducted by dividing into a low tube voltage (70 kVp, 400 mA, 3.2 mAs) group and a high tube voltage (100 kVp, 400 mA, 1.2 mAs) group. The collimation size (14″× 17″) and the source to image receptor distance(110 cm) were same applied to both groups. Radiation dose was presented to dose area product and entrance surface dose. Image quality was compared and analyzed by comparing the difference between the signal-to-noise ratio and the contrast-to-noise ratio of the image according to the application of the scatter ray post-processing software under each condition. The average value of the entrance surface dose in the low and high tube voltage conditions was 93.04±0.45 µGy and 94.25±1.51 µGy, which was slightly higher in the high tube voltage condition, but the dose area product was 0.97±0.04 µGy and 0.93±0.01 µGy. There was a statistically significant difference in the group mean value(p<0.01). In terms of image quality, the values of the signal-to-noise ratio and the contrast noise ratio were higher in the high tube voltage than in the low tube voltage, and decreased when the scattering line post-processing function was used, but the contrast resolution was improved. If there is a scatter ray post-processing function during chest AP examination, it is helpful to actively utilize it to improve the image quality. However, when this function is not available, I thought that applying a higher tube voltage state than a low tube voltage state will help to realize images with a large amount of information without changing the dose.

The CBTC(Communication based Train Control) system employed on 2.4GHz ISM band adopt the IEEE802.11.x standard. Therefor communication time delay, distortion and data losses will be produced. To overcome these problems, CPSK(Continuous Phase shift keying) modulated DS/SS(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) transmitter with 908MHz carrier frequency is proposed. Through the eye diagram and scatter diagram the performance is analysed. And the phase noise characteristic of the local oscillator is measured about 60dBc/Hz, this means that the phase noise performance is very good compared to the signal. Reference frequency suppression of the 2nd local oscillator is 50dB below compared to the signal. Through the polarities of the complementary signal equally probable, the line spectrum of the output spectrum is eliminated. The nonlinear effects which introduce the spectral spreading or spectral regeneration is reduced remarkably.
Digital radiography imaging systems can also help diagnose lesions in patients, but if x-rays that enter the human body cause scatter x-ray due to interaction with substances, they affect the signal and noise characteristics of digital x-ray images. To regard the human body as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and observe the properties of scattered x-ray generated from PMMA on x-ray images, we analyze signal and noise in the spatial domain as well as noise-power spectrum (NPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE) at zero frequency. As PMMA thickness increased, signals decreased, the noise increased, and NPS degradation was identified in overall spatial frequencies. Based on these characteristics, zero-frequency performance was also shown to be degraded. Comparative analysis with Monte-carlo simulations will need to be made to analyze the zero-frequency performance by scattered x-ray of indirect conversion-type x-ray detectors more quantitatively.
This study presents probabilistic-based damage identification technique for highlighting damage in metallic structures. This technique utilizes distributed piezoelectric transducers to generate and monitor the ultrasonic Lamb wave with narrowband frequency. Diagnostic signals were used to define the scatter signals of different paths. The energy of scatter signals till different times were calculated by taking root mean square of the scatter signals. For each pair of parallel paths an error function based on the energy of scatter signals is introduced. The resultant error function then is used to estimate the probability of the presence of damage in the monitoring area. The presented method with an autofocusing feature is applied to aluminum plates for method verification. The results identified using both simulation and experimental Lamb wave signals at different central frequencies agreed well with the actual situations, demonstrating the potential of the presented algorithm for identification of damage in metallic structures. An obvious merit of the presented technique is that in addition to damages located inside the region between transducers; those who are outside this region can also be monitored without any interpretation of signals. This novelty qualifies this method for online structural health monitoring.

The paper describes a Layered Modulation using the SVC signals and studies the properties of the modulation with respect to several parameters by the computer simulation. The SVC signals will include a base layer signal and an enhancement signal, and the base layer signal is the more important one in its channel robustness. The parameters will include a carrier frequency, a bandwidth, power level, modulation type and code rate. We analyze the demodulating and decoding process of the Layered Modulation system through several scatter plots. And then we discuss the affect of the layer signal power difference to the BER performance, which also proves the base layer signal is more important than the enhancement layer signal.

This paper proposes a new concept of a signal constellation of the recently introduced half-symbol-rate-carrier phase-shift keying (HSRC-PSK) modulations for bandwidth-efficient high speed data communications. Since the HSRC-PSK modulations contain different symbol energies representing the same bit sequences due to the loss of orthogonality of their HSRC signals, it is very hard to represent the symbol using the conventional signal constellation. To resolve the problem, two different energies are assigned to represent one symbol for the HSRC offset quadrature phase shift keying (OQPSK) modulation. Similarly, the different energies exist to display the different symbol for HSRC minimum shift keying (MSK) modulation. With the proposed signal space representation, HSRC-PSK symbol can easily be shown with a two-dimensional scatter plot which provides helpful information of evaluating HSRC-PSK signal's quality.
