  • In this study, we investigate the injection molding of f-theta lens, an important element of the laser scanning unit of laser printers and scanning systems. The f-theta lens is an aspherical plastic lens that must be molded with a precision of seconds. An injection molding method is often used for mass producing aspherical plastic lenses at a low cost. In the injection molding process, costs related to forming and injection are included. Therefore, in this study, to determine the shrinkage and deformation of injection molded f-theta lens, we predict the pressure and temperature distributions. Further, based on the analysis of the predictions, we maximize the design efficiency and verify the cost and development period reduction.

  • Recently laser scanning technologies become widely used in many areas of the modern economy. In the following paper authors show a potential spectrum of use Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) in diagnostics of reinforced concrete elements. Based on modes of failure analysis of reinforcement concrete beam authors describe downsides and advantages of adaptation of terrestrial laser scanning to this purpose, moreover reveal under which condition this technology might be used. Research studies were conducted by Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Gdansk University of Technology. An experiment involved bending of reinforced concrete beam, the process was registered by the terrestrial laser scanner. Reinforced concrete beam was deliberately overloaded and eventually failed by shear. Whole failure process was tracing and recording by scanner Leica ScanStation C10 and verified by synchronous photographic registration supported by digital photogrammetry methods. Obtained data were post-processed in Leica Cyclone (dedicated software) and MeshLab (program on GPL license). The main goal of this paper is to prove the effectiveness of TLS in diagnostics of reinforced concrete elements. Authors propose few methods and procedures to virtually reconstruct failure process, measure geometry and assess a condition of structure.

  • The Direct Metal Prototyping(DMP), one of the rapid prototyping technologies, allows the manufacturing of three-dimensional metallic parts using metal powders directly from the CAD data. Laser power and scanning speed are the most important variables of the process. The objective of this study is to obtain the design data for laser power and scanning speed to bond metal powders effectively using the finite element method. To obtain the design values, a numerical analysis considering two-dimensional heat transfer during the sintering of metal powder layers of the process was performed. The laser beam has been modeled to have directionality in its heat flux distribution, i. e., in the scanning direction a Gaussian beam mode distribution has been assumed and in the thickness direction a square beam mode distribution. The three-dimensional irregular distribution of metal powders of the powder layer is idealized as two-dimensional distribution in which metal powders are located regularly and periodically on the plate. In this study the design values of laser power vs scanning speed have been obtained. Temperature distribution and temperature variation of the powder layers with respect to time have been predicted. The commputed dsign data will be useful in determining the initial conditions of the process.

  • In reverse engineering (RE) sustems, the quality of the data aquisition process is crucial to the accuracy of the reverse engineered three dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) model. However, these tasks are predominantly done manually, and little work has been done to improve the efficiency of scanning by determining the minimum number of scans and the optimal scanning directions. In this paper, new scanning and registration methods using tooling balls are developed to assist in determining the optimal parameter for these processes. When the object to scanned has no concavity, attaching path of the object and its bounding rectangle are used for optimal scanning and registration. Then minimum number of tooling balls and their positions are calculated automatically. In the case of concave parts, the scanning plan should include a complete scan of the concave area. With the surface normal vector and the scanning direction, the minimum degree of rotating the part can be calculated. But the maximum rotation should be restricted in order to prevent occlusion of the part. Finally tow sample part ar scanned based on the proposed methods and the results are discussed.

  • Recently, many industries are using three dimensional scanning technology. As the performance of the 3D scanner gradually improves, a sampling step to reduce a point data or a remove step to remove a part determined to be noise are generally performed in post processing. However, total point data by long time scanning cannot be processed at once in spite of performing such those additional processes. In general, a method using a multi threaded environment is widely used, but as the scanning process work time increases, the processing performance gradually decreases due to various environmental conditions and accumulated operations. This paper proposes a method to initially remove point data judged to be unnecessary by calculating accumulated fast point feature histogram values from coming point data of the 3D scanner in real time. The entire 3D scanning process can be reduced using this approach.

  • Selective Laser Sintering(SLS) method is one of Rapid Prototyping(RP) technologies. It has been used to fabricate desirable part to sinter powder and stack the fabricated layer. Since the sintering process occurs using infrared laser having high thermal energy, shrinkage and curling of the fabricated part occurs according to thermal distribution. Therefore, the fast scanning path generation is necessary to eliminate the factors of quality deterioration. In case of fabricating larger size parts, the unique scanning device and scanning path generation should be considered. In this paper, the development of SLS machines being capable of large size fabrication(800${\times}$1000${\times}$800 mm, W${\times}$D${\times}$H) will be addressed. The dual laser system and the unique scanning device have been designed and built, which employ CO2 lasers and dynamic 3-axis scanners. The developed system allows scanning a larger planar surface with the desired laser spot size. Also, to generate the fast scanning paths, adaptive path generation is needed with respect to the shape of each layer, and not simply x, y scanning, but the scanning of arbitrary direction should be enabled. To evaluate the suggested method, the complex part will be used for the experiment fabrication.

  • This paper is about a real-time automatic face recognition system based on one-shot panoramic scanning. It detects multiple faces in real time through a single panoramic scanning process and recognizes pre-registered faces. Instead of recognizing multiple faces within a single panoramic image, multiple faces are recognized using multiple images obtained in the scanning process. This reduces the panorama image creation time and stitching error, and at the same time can improve the face recognition performance by using the accumulated information of multiple images. It is expected that it can be used in various applications such as a multi-person smart attendance system with only a simple image acquisition device.

  • Scanning probe microscopy (SPM) has become an indispensable tool in efforts to develop the next generation of nanoelectronic devices, given its achievable nanometer spatial resolution and highly versatile ability to measure a variety of properties. Recently a new scanning probe microscope was developed to overcome the tip degradation problem of the classic SPM. The main advantage of this new method, called Reverse tip sample (RTS) SPM, is that a single tip can be replaced by a chip containing hundreds to thousands of tips. Generally for use in RTS SPM, pyramid-shaped diamond tips are made by molding on a silicon substrate. Combining RTS SPM with Scanning spreading resistance microscopy (SSRM) using the diamond tip offers the potential to perform 3D profiling of semiconductor materials. However, damage frequently occurs to the completed tips because of the complex manufacturing process. In this work, we design, fabricate, and evaluate an RTS tip chip prototype to simplify the complex manufacturing process, prevent tip damage, and shorten manufacturing time.

  • In the stereolithography process, the accuracy of cured shape depends on laser power, scanning speed, scanning pattern, resin characteristics etc. When three-dimensional objects are built, higher laser power gives higher building efficiency. Normally we could control scanning speed and scanning pattern, which affect curing thickness and generate volume of curl in & after building. Oligomer, Monomer and Initiator are major components. Kinds and of them decide characteristic of resin. In this paper, we deak with major facts and their characteristics for precision shape building.
