  • This paper proposes the systematic auto-tuning method for fuzzy controller using genetic algorithm(GA). In general, the design of fuzzy logic controller has difficulties in the acquisition of expert's knowledge and relies to a great extent on heuristic knowledge which, in many cases, cannot be objectively justified. So, the performance of the controller can be degraded in the case of plant parameter variations or unpredictable incident which the designer may have ignored. Proposed genetic algorithm searches the optimal rule structure, parameters of membership functions and scaling factors simultaneously and automatically by a new genetic coding format. Inverted pendrum system is provided to show the advantages of the proposed method.

  • We have demonstrated a highly efficient cladding-pumped ytterbium-doped fiber laser, generating $>$2.1 kW of continuous-wave output power at 1.1 μm with 74% slope efficiency with respect to launched pump power. The beam quality factor ($M^2$) was better than 1.2. The maximum output power was only limited by available pump power, showing no evidence of roll-over even at the highest output power. We present data on how the beam quality depends on the fiber parameter, based on our current and past fiber laser developments. We also discuss the ultimate power-capability of our fiber in terms of thermal management, Raman nonlinear scattering, and material damage, and estimate it to 10 kW.

  • Artificial potential field (APF) is a widely used method for local path planning of autonomous mobile robot. So far, many different types of APF have been implemented. Once the artificial potential functions are selected, how to choose appropriate parameters of the functions is also an important work. In this paper, a detailed analysis is given on how to choose proper parameters of artificial functions to eliminate free path local minima and avoid collision between robots and obstacles. Two kinds of potential functions: Gaussian type and Quadratic type of potential functions are used to solve the above local minima problem respectively. To avoid local minima occurred in realistic situations such as 1) a case that the potential of the goal is affected excessively by potential of the obstacle, 2) a case that the potential of the obstacle is affected excessively by potential of the goal, the design guidelines for selecting appropriate parameters of potential functions are proposed.

  • This paper describes on RF circuit simulation technique, especially on a RF modeling and a model extraction of a LDMOS(Lateral Diffused MOS) that has gate-width (Wg) dependence. Small-signal model parameters of the LDMOSs with various gate-widths extracted from S-parameter data are applied to make the relation between the RF performances and gate-width. It is proved that a source inductance (Ls) was not applicable to scaling rules. These extracted small-signal model parameters are also utilized to remove extrinsic elements in an extraction of a large-signal model (using HP Root MOSFET Model). Therefore, we can omit an additional measurement to extract extrinsic elements. When the large-signal model with Ls having the above gate-width dependence is applied to a high-power LDMOS module, the simulated performances (Output power, etc.) are in a good agreement with experimental results. It is proved that our extracted model and RF circuit simulation have a good accuracy.

  • In this paper, a novel speed control system that implements the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) is proposed. Fuzzy controller is shown more excellent efficency than a conventional controllers in the strength aspect and non-linear controller using IF-THEN rule which can control without process the accurate mathematical modeling about induction motor. But we cannot expect that conventional fuzzy controller divide equally the space of input and output parameter and use the certain shape of triangle membership function. Therefore to develop the efficiency of conventional fuzzy controller, We need to scale the range of membership functions. In this study, proposed fuzzy controller has the ability controlling scale of membership functions using by output scaling factor.

  • This paper presents a fundamental fractal characteristics of the growing crack that has an irregularity producing a zigzag crack contour. This irregularity is analysed by a fractal geometry in a box counting method that is a very simple technique. First the fractal dimensions and actual fractal extensive crack length are obtained. Also a fractal fracture energy relation with a fractal dimension is found so as to get fractal crack behaviors. Thus it can be shown that the fractal dimension has a possibility as a fracture parameter in a real crack growth length meaning.

  • Strip footing is an important type of shallow foundations and is commonly used beneath the walls. Analysis of shallow foundation involves the determination of stresses and deformations. Element free Galerkin method, one of the important mesh free methods, is used for the determination of stresses and deformations. Element free Galerkin method is an efficient and accurate method as compared to finite element method. The Element Free Galerkin method uses only a set of nodes and a description of model boundary is required to generate the discrete equation. Strip footing of width 2 m subjected to a loading intensity of 200 kPa is studied. The results obtained are agreeing with the values obtained using analytical solutions available in the literature. Parametric study is done and the effect of modulus of deformation, Poisson's ratio and scaling parameter on deformation and stresses are determined.

  • An optimization problem is to select the best of many possible design alternatives in a complex design space. Genetic algorithms, one of the numerous techniques to search optimal solution, have been successfully applied to various problems (for example, parameter tuning in expert systems, structural systems with a mix of continuous, integer and discrete design variables) that could not have been readily solved with more conventional computational technique. But, conventional genetic algorithms are ill defined for two classes of problems, ie., penalty function and fitness scaling. Therefore, this paper develops Improved genetic algorithms(IGA) to solve these problems. As a case study, numerical examples are demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the Improved genetic algorithms.

  • Spectral clustering has become a typical and efficient clustering method used in a variety of applications. The critical step of spectral clustering is the similarity measurement, which largely determines the performance of the spectral clustering method. In this paper, we propose a novel spectral clustering algorithm based on the local similarity measure of shared neighbors. This similarity measurement exploits the local density information between data points based on the weight of the shared neighbors in a directed k-nearest neighbor graph with only one parameter k, that is, the number of nearest neighbors. Numerical experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms other existing spectral clustering algorithms in terms of the clustering performance measured via the normalized mutual information, clustering accuracy, and F-measure. As an example, the proposed method can provide an improvement of 15.82% in the clustering performance for the Soybean dataset.

  • The upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) was determined by applying a magnetic field along the ab plane and c axis for two single crystals of $BaFe_{2-x}Ru_xAs_2$ (x=0.48 and 0.75). The anisotropy of the $H_{c2}(0)$, ${\gamma}(0)=H_{c2}{^{ab}}(0)/H_{c2}{^c}(0)$, was ~1.6 for x=0.48 and ~2.3 for x=0.75. The angle-dependent resistance measured below $T_c$ allowed perfect scaling features based on anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau theory, leading to consistent anisotropy values. Because only one fitting parameter ${\gamma}$ is used in the scaling for each temperature, the validity of the ${\gamma}$ value was compared with that determined from ${\gamma}=H_{c2}{^{ab}}/H_{c2}{^c}$. The ${\gamma}$ obtained at a temperature close to $T_c$ was 3.0 and decreased to 2.0 at low temperatures. Comparing to the anisotropy determined for electron- or hole-doped $BaFe_2As_2$ using the same method, the present results point to consistent anisotropy in Ru-doped $BaFe_2As_2$ with other electron- or hole-doped $BaFe_2As_2$.
