GMS(Geostational Meteorological Satellite), GOES(Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite), MTSAT(Multi-Funcional Transport Satellite) 등의 정지기상위성은 거의 매시간 기상상황을 감시하고 태풍정보를 실시간 분석할 수 있어 드보락(Dvorak, 1975)등에 의해 이를 이용한 가시영상이나 적외영상기반의 태풍중심강도를 분석기법(드보락의 VIS/IR 분석법) 및 적외강조영상 분석기법(드보락의 EIR 분석법)이 개발되었다(Dvorak,1975, 1984).
The cone intercept method (CIM) is generally used for attitude determination of a spin-stabilized satellite. The method is popularly used on a transfer orbit, but it is well known that it can also be used for the geosychronous orbit. In this paper, the CIM is applied to the geosynchronous orbit and its performance and limitations will be investigated from the results. The CIM impliments two sensors (Sun and Earth sensors). The Sun sensor finds the angle between the spin-axis and the direction vector to the Sun and the Earth sensor does the angle between the spin-axis and the direction vector to the Earth. By using these two cone angles, the CIM gives the direction of the spin-axis of the satellite.
Han's model, which is able to analyze optical communication between earth station and geo-satellite as a function of atmospheric conditions and elevation angles. is presented. In Han's model, atmospheric conditions are roughly classified into six basic types; clear sky, cloud, haze, fog, rain and snow. Data rate satisfying for the BER below $10^{-7}$ is analyzed by Han's model in case of up-link and down-link, respectively. Data rate is more limited by up-link than by down-link because the pointing loss caused by atmosphere on the up-link is greater than the spatial coherence degradation caused by atmosphere on the down-link.
In this paper, position control of focal plane compensation device using piezoelectric actuator is conducted. The forcal plane compensation device installed on earth observation satellite camera compensates micro-vibration from reaction wheels. In this study, four experimental models of the open-loop compensation device are derived using MATLAB system identification toolbox in the input range of 0~50Hz. Subsequently, the PID controller for each model is designed and the performance test of each controller is conducted through MATLAB/Simulink. According to frequency response analysis of the closed-loop compensation device system, the PID controller designed for 38~50Hz input range has enough tracking performance for the whole 0~50Hz input range. The maximum output error is about $1{\mu}m$ for the input range. The simulation results has been verified by the experimental method.

The thermal analysis of electronic equipment is required to predict the reliability of electronic equipment being loaded on a satellite. The transient heat transfer of electronic equipment that was developed recently has been generated using a large-scale integration circuit. If there is a transient heat transfer between EEE(Electric, Electronic and Electro mechanical) parts, it may lead to failure the satellite mission. In this study, we performed the thermal design and analysis for reliability of APD(Antenna Pointing Driver) electronics for activation of a spaceborne X-band 2-axis antenna. The EEE parts were designed using a thermal mathematical model without the thermal mitigation element. In addition, thermal analysis was performed based on the worst case for verifying the reliability of EEE parts. For the thermal analysis results, the thermal stability of electronic equipment has been demonstrated by satisfying the de-rating junction temperature.
Compared to the imagery produced by traditional satellites, PlanetScope satellite imagery has made it possible to easily capture remotely-sensed imagery every day through dozens or even hundreds of satellites on a relatively small budget. This study aimed to detect changed areas and update a land cover map using a PlanetScope image. To generate a classification map, pixel-based Random Forest (RF) classification was performed by using additional features, such as the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The classification result was converted to vector data and compared with the existing land cover map to estimate the changed area. To estimate the accuracy and trends of the changed area, the quantitative quality of the supervised classification result using the PlanetScope image was evaluated first. In addition, the patterns of the changed area that corresponded to the classification result were analyzed using the PlanetScope satellite image. Experimental results found that the PlanetScope image can be used to effectively to detect changed areas on large-scale land cover maps, and supervised classification results can update the changed areas.

This paper introduces the lithium ion battery system for LEO(Low Earth Orbit) small satellites. This study proves the reliability of lithium ion batteries applying to the space application. The specifications for lithium ion battery unit are proposed to supply power to the satellite and the overall mechanical design including structural simulation to confirm the reliability of the lithium ion BMS(Battery Management System) under the space environment and launching conditions. The results of structural simulation, functional tests, and space environmental tests show the lithium ion battery system is space qualified. Space qualification of the small satellite battery system to secure reliability of BMS and lithium ion batteries lend credibility for using lithium ion batteries in space application.
In this study, gas flow and temperature distribution in the multi-wafer planetary CVD reactor for the Si epitaxial growth were analyzed. Although the structure of the reactor was simplified as the first step of the study, the three-dimensional analysis was performed taking all these considerations of the revolution of the susceptor and the rotation of satellites into account. From the analyses, a reasonable velocity field and temperature field were obtained. However, it was found that analyses including the upper structure of the reactor were required in order to obtain more realistic temperature results. DCS mole fraction above the satellite surface and the susceptor surface without satellite was compared in order to check the gas species mixing. We found that satellite rotation helped gases to mix in the reactor.

In order to propose new satellite navigation signals, it is essential to analyze the increased level of interference effect that the existing signals suffer. In this paper, a method for estimating the power density of the interference signals on GPS signals is proposed before and after the additional transmission of the KPS signals in the L1, L2 and L5 bands. For estimation, we assume the number of visible satellites observed over the Korean peninsular and the minimum received power of the satellite navigation signals. The comparison of the estimated values shows that the power density of the interfering signal increases by up to 1.37 dB due to the introduction of KPS, but this leads to an increase in interference plus noise power density below 0.47 dB.
Remote sensing becomes a new and core framework for the atmospheric sciences and closely related areas concerning with the ever-changing global environmental status. However, remote sensing in the Korea Meteorological Society is relatively new, where the first relevant paper is appeared in 1983, as well as is an area with relatively limited number of research groups. Here, we review and summarize some of the key progress in this area within Korea Meteorological Society focusing on the areas of satellite, radar, and ground based remote sensing such as lidar, spectrometer and sun photometer. Overall, the area is shown to have the most significant progress occur along with the acquisition of the key infra structures such as the COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) and S-band radar system led by Korea Meteorological Administration in early 2000. After that, the area has quickly developed into a status playing important roles to lead and support the overall activities in the atmospheric measurements. It is expected that the importance and role of the remote sensing will increase in the coming years.
