Constant Envelope Multiplexing via Constellation Tailoring Scheme for Flexible Power Allocation of GNSS Signals

  • A constant envelope multiplexing via constellation tailoring scheme is proposed for flexible power allocation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals. The proposed scheme is compared with the coherent adaptive subcarrier modulation (CASM) adopted in the L1 band signals of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in terms of power difference and power loss. Analysis of the constellation optimization results on the power difference and power loss show that the proposed scheme outperforms the CASM of the GPS signals in the allowable power difference of less than 0.1 dB.

  • Given an object, its positioning in the space is a main concern in structural monitoring and a required feedback in structural health monitoring, structural control and robotics. In addition, to make the sensor unit wireless is a crucial issue for advanced applications. This paper deals with the exploitation of wireless transmission technology to long-term monitoring GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers - like the Leica GMX 902 and the Leica GRX 1200-pro. These GPS receivers consist of five parts: antenna, receiver, user client computer, interface and power supply. The antenna is mounted on the object to be monitored and is connected with the receiver by a coaxial-cable through which the radio frequency signals are transmitted. The receiver unit acquires, tracks and demodulates the satellite signals and provides, through an interface which in this paper is made wireless, the resulting GPS raw data to the user client computer for being further processed by a suitable positioning algorithm. The power supply reaches the computer by a wired link, while the other modules rely on batteries re-charged by power harvesting devices. Two wireless transmission systems, the 24XStream and the CC1110, are applied to replace the cable transmission between the receiver and the user client computer which up to now was the only market offer. To verify the performance and the reliability of this wireless transmission system, some experiments are conducted. The results show a successful cable replacement.

  • 요즘 차량 네비게이션 시스템은 큰 관심 분야이다. GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System)은 실외 측위를 위한 기술 중 핵심적인 기술이다. 그러나 GNSS는 높은 정확도와 신뢰도를 제공하지 못한다. 이러한 이유로, 우리는 차량의 GNSS 성능의 정확도를 향상시키기 위하여 Network-RTK를 적용하였다. 이 Network-RTK 모드에서 GNSS 에러는 급격히 감소하게 된다. 본 논문에서 우리는 ntrip client 프로그램을 설명하고 다양한 환경에서의 실험 결과를 보여준다.

  • In the work package 'Integrated Positioning' of the research project NAVIO (Pedestrian Navigation Systems in Combined Indoor/Outdoor Environements) we are dealing with the navigation and guidance of visitors of our University. Thereby start points are public transport stops in the surroundings of the Vienna University of Technology and the user of the system should be guided to certain office rooms or persons. For the position determination of the user different location sensors are employed, i.e., for outdoor positioning GPS and dead reckoning sensors such as a digital compass and gyro for heading determination and accelerometers for the determination of the travelled distance as well as a barometric pressure sensor for altitude determination and for indoor areas location determination using WiFi fingerprinting. All sensors and positioning methods are combined and integrated using a Kalman filter approach. Then an optimal estimate of the current location of the user is obtained using the filter. To perform an adequate weighting of the sensors in the stochastic filter model, the sensor characteristics and their performance was investigated in several tests. The tests were performed in different environments either with free satellite visibility or in urban canyons as well as inside of buildings. The tests have shown that it is possible to determine the user's location continuously with the required precision and that the selected sensors provide a good performance and high reliability. Selected tests results and our approach will be presented in the paper.

Single Frequency GPS Relative Navigation for Autonomous Rendezvous and Docking Mission of Low-Earth Orbit Cube-Satellites

  • This paper addressed a relative navigation method for autonomous rendezvous and docking of cube-satellites using single frequency Differential GPS (DGPS) under the intermittent communication between satellites. Since the ionospheric error of GPS measurement is variable depending on the visible satellites, a few meters error of relative navigation is occurred in the Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) environment. Therefore, it is essential to remove the ionospheric error to perform relative navigation. Besides, an intermittent communication period for receiving GPS measurements of the target satellite is limited for getting information every sampling time. To solve this problem, a method combining range domain DGPS and orbit propagation is proposed in this paper. The proposed method improves the performance of DGPS by using Hatch filter and solves an intermittent communication problem by estimating the relative position and velocity using Hill-Clohessy-Wiltshire Equation. Through the simulation, it is verified that the suggested algorithm provides the relative position error within RMS 0.5 m and the relative velocity error within RMS 3 cm/s. Furthermore, it has the advantage that it is suitable for real-time implementation using single-frequency GPS measurements and is computationally efficient.

항재밍 GPS 시스템을 위한 선형 어레이 안테나 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of Linear Array Antenna for Anti-jamming GPS Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 항재밍 GPS(Global Positioning System) 시스템을 위한 선형 어레이 안테나(linear array antenna) 시뮬레이터(simulator)를 설계하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 다양한 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 먼저 GPS 위성의 신호 구조 분석을 통해 모의 송신신호를 발생시키고, 선형 어레이 안테나 고려시 잡음 환경하에서의 어레이 수에 따른 SNR(Signal to Noise power Ratio) 성능을 분석하였다. 또한 MMSE(Minimum Mean Square Error) 방식의 신호처리 시스템을 통해 재머(jammer) 수에 따른 항재밍 빔패턴(beam pattern) 성능을 분석하였으며, 안테나 칼리브레이션(calibration) 문제를 고려하여 어레이간 지연이 존재하는 경우에서의 항재밍 성능을 분석하였다.

GPS기반 준실시간 위치추적을 위한 IGS 예측궤도력 이상 검출 (Anomaly Detection of IGS Predicted Orbits for Near-Real-Time Positioning Using GPS)

  • IGS(Internation GNSS Service) 초신속궤도력에 포함된 예측궤도력은 실시간 혹은 준실시간 정밀 항법에 적합한 궤도력이다. 이 논문에서는 예측궤도력에서 발생할 수 있는 궤도 이상 발생 현황을 점검하고, NANU(Current Notice Advisories to NAVSTAR Users)와 IGS 방송궤도력(BRDC, Broadcast Ephemerides)를 이용하여 예측궤도력의 이상 검출 성능을 분석하였다. 그 결과 예측궤도력은 2010년 1년간 93회의 궤도 이상이 나타났으며, NANU를 이용할 경우 88%, NANU와 BRDC를 함께 사용할 경우 95%의 이상 검출이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

KASS Message Scheduler Design

  • The Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS), which is under development in Korea as a Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) is expected to broadcast SBAS messages to air space in Korea according to the international standards defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA). Around 13 SBAS messages are broadcast in every second to transmit augmentation information which can be applicable to a wide area in common. Each of the messages requires a different update interval and time-out according to the characteristics, purpose, and importance of transmitted information, and users should receive and combine multiple SBAS messages to calculate SBAS augmented information. Thus, a time to take acquiring first SBAS position by users differs depending on broadcasting various SBAS messages with which order and intervals. The present paper analyzes the considerations on message scheduling for broadcasting of KASS augmentation information and proposes a design of KASS message scheduler using the considerations. Compared to existing SBAS systems, which have a wide range of service area, a service area of the KASS is limited to Korea only. Thus, the numbers of ionosphere grid points and satellites to be augmented are expected to be smaller than those of existing SBAS. By reflecting this characteristic to the proposed design, shortening of broadcast interval of KASS message is verified compared to existing SBAS and a measure to increase a speed of acquisition of user navigation solution is proposed utilizing remaining message slots. The simulation result according to the proposed measure showed that the maximum broadcast interval can be reduced by up to 20% compared to that of existing SBAS, and users can acquire KASS position solution faster than existing SBAS.

  • 선조의 유골 매장지와 함께 고구려 왕조($37BC{\sim}771AD$)의 산성과 이조 왕조($1392{\sim}1910AD$) 때의 봉화대와 같이 중국 동북부 지역 만주와 한반도에 산재한 유적지들의 소재지들을 확인하기 위해 위성영상을 적용했다. 이러한 유적지에 관한 정보는 여러 문헌들에서 접하게 되지만 이들 문화제의 실체들은 최근의 지역 개발 프로그램들에 의해 점차 사라지고 있는 실정이다. 이번에 답사하면서 측정한 위성위치정보(GPS) 자료를 사용하여 위성영상에서 일부 역사 유적지들의 위치를 확인해 보았다. 이들의 상세한 위치 정보는 좀 더 확인이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

  • 민간과 상업응용분야의 성장과 함께 위치정보, 항법 그리고 시각정보를 제공하는 전지구 위성 항법시스템(GNSS)은 우리의 삶에 많은 영향을 주고 있다. 사용자들의 요구사항을 맞추기 위해 10cm급의 정확도를 갖는 새로운 측위기술이 적용되고 있으며, 측위정확도는 더욱 향상 되어가고 있다. 이 연구에서는 GPS L1 수신기 사용자의 측위정확도 향상을 위해 두개의 GPS 기준국 (DAEJ, SUWN) 관측정보를 이용하였고, 한반도내 넓은 범위의 실험지역으로부터 얻어진 데이터를 자료처리 하였다. 결과적으로 이중 GPS 기준국에 의해 산출된 조합해가 단일 기준국에 의한 결과보다 향상된 위치정확도를 보였다.
