  • For geometric correction of high-resolution images, the authors matched corresponding objects between a large-scale digital map and a QuickBird image to obtain the coefficients of the first order polynomial. Proximity corrections were performed, using the Boolean operation, to perform automated matching accurately. The modified iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm was used between the point data of the surface linear objects and the point data of the edge objects of the image to determine accurate transformation coefficients. As a result of the automated geometric correction for the study site, an accuracy of 1.207 root mean square error (RMSE) per pixel was obtained.

  • The distribution of coral reefs can be an indicator of environmental or anthropogenic impacts. Here, we present a habitat map of coral reefs developed using high-spatial satellite images. The study area was located on the north-eastern part of Weno island, in the Chuuk lagoon of Federated States of Micronesia. Two fieldwork expeditions were carried out between 2007 and 2008 to acquire optical and environmental data from 121 stations. We used an IKONOS image obtained in December 2000, and a Kompsat-2 image obtained in September 2008 for the purpose of coral reef mapping. We employed an adapted version of the object-based classification method for efficient classification of the high-spatial satellite images. The habitat map generated using Kompsat-2 was 72.22% accurate in terms of comparative analysis with in-situ measurements. The result of change detection analysis between 2000 and 2008 showed that coral reef distribution had decreased by 6.27% while seagrass meadows had increased by 8.0%.

  • Stereo bird's-eyes-view was prepared for 3-dimensional view of various forms of Jecheon city, and 3-dimensional simulation was applied to it so as to show it in moving pictures in spatial. In manufacturing stereo bird's-eyes-view, perspective technology was used in image-making technology, and the basic material images are prepared as fellows: used EOC Images from Arirang-1 satellite, created DEM whose error was optionally geometric corrected after drawn from the contour line of the map on a scale of l/5,000 manufactured by national geography institute as a national standard map, and classified road lines which were manufactured as a road layer vector file of a map on a scale of l/l,000 and then overlay it over the three dimensional image of target area. Especially for the connectivity with address system to be used in new address, an arterial road map on a scale of l/l,000 that had been manufactured to grant new address was used in maximum in road network structure data of city area in this study.

  • As the KOMPSAT-1 satellite can roll tilt up to $\pm$45$^{\circ}$, we have analyzed some EOC images taken at different tilt angles fur this study. The required ground coordinates for bundle adjustment and geometric accuracy, are read from the digital map produced by the National Geography Institution, at a scale of 1:5, 000. These are the steps taken for the tilting angle of KOMPSAT-1 satellite to be present in the evaluation of the accuracy of the geometric of each different stereo image data: Firstly, as the tilting angle is different in each image, the satellite dynamic characteristic must be determined by the sensor modeling. Then the best sensor modeling equation is determined. The result of this research, the difference between the RMSE values of individual stereo images is due more the quality of image and ground coordinates than to the tilt angle. The bundle adjustment using three KOMPSAT-1 stereo pairs, first degree of polynomials for modeling the satellite position were sufficient.

  • Extraction of region of interest for satellite image classification is one of the important techniques for efficient management of the national land space. However, recent studies on satellite image classification often depend on the information of the selected image in selecting the region of interest. This study propose an effective method of selecting the area of interest using the continuous digital topographic map constructed from high resolution images. The spatial information used in this research is based on the digital topographic map from 2013 to 2017 provided by the National Geographical Information Institute and the 2015 Sejong City land cover map provided by the Ministry of Environment. To verify the accuracy of the extracted area of interest, KOMPSAT-3A satellite images were used which taken on October 28, 2018 and July 7, 2018. The baseline samples for 2015 were extracted using the unchanged area of the continuous digital topographic map for 2013-2015 and the land cover map for 2015, and also extracted the baseline samples in 2018 using the unchanged area of the continuous digital topographic map for 2015-2017 and the land cover map for 2015. The redundant areas that occurred when merging continuous digital topographic maps and land cover maps were removed to prevent confusion of data. Finally, the checkpoints are generated within the region of interest, and the accuracy of the region of interest extracted from the K3A satellite images and the error matrix in 2015 and 2018 is shown, and the accuracy is approximately 93% and 72%, respectively. The accuracy of the region of interest can be used as a region of interest, and the misclassified region can be used as a reference for change detection.

  • A Tile Map Service is a regular map service that has been enhanced to serve maps very quickly using a cache of static images. The map cache is a directory that contains image tiles of a map extent at specific scale levels. Returning a tile from the cache takes the server much less time than drawing the map image on demand. Use of a Tile Map Service can dramatically improve the time that clients take to display complex base-maps. Using Tile Map Services thus eliminate the need to trade quality for performance. This study provides a way to construct Tile Map Service System using Open Source GIS. We used GDAL(Geospatial Data Abstraction Library) which is one of the Open Source GIS Softwares to make Tile Map Image and OpenLayers to publish Web Page. Moreover, We conducted a performance test on Tile Map System and Dynamic Map System and evaluated the results of it. As a result, the proposed method makes it easier to construct high performance Tile Map Service using Open Source GIS without commercial products.

  • Low-cost microcomputer systems can be assembled which possess computing power, color display, memory, and storage capacity approximately equal to graphic workstactions. A low-cost, flexible, and user-friendly IBM/PC/XT/AT based image processing system has been developed and named as KMIPS(KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology) Map and Image Processing Station). It can be easily utilized by the resource managers who are not computer specialists. This system can: * directly access Landsat MSS and TM, SPOT, NOAA AVHRR, MOS-1 satellite imagery and other imagery from different sources via magnetic tape drive connected with IBM/PC; * extract image up to 1024 line by 1024 column and display it up to 480 line by 672 column with 512 colors simultaneously available; * digitize photographs using a frame grabber subsystem(512 by 512 picture elements); * perform a variety of image analyses, GIS and terrain analyses, and display functions; and * generate map and hard copies to the various scales. All raster data input to the microcomputer system is geographically referenced to the topographic map series in any rater cell size selected by the user. This map oriented, georeferenced approach of this system enables user to create a very accurately registered(.+-.1 picture element), multivariable, multitemporal data sets which can be subsequently subsequently subjected to various analyses and display functions.
