  • Himawari-8/Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) 열적외 채널 자료에 Maximum Cross Correlation (MCC), Zero-mean Sum of Absolute Distances (ZSAD), Zero-mean Sum of Squared Distances (ZSSD) 알고리즘을 적용하여 표층 해류를 산출하고, 그 결과를 비교 분석하였다.

  • Satellite-borne altimeters are one of the most important global ocean measurement and monitoring techniques available to modern oceanographers. While the U.S. Navy's GEOdetic SATellite (GEOSAT) mission in the mid-eighties firmly established its value, the full potential of satellite altimetry was not realized until the launch of the NASA/CNES TOPEX/Poseidon precision altimeter in 1992. • Satellite altimetric data from 1993 to 2006 are used to study sea level variations in the long tenn in the East Sea. The trend of sea level in the East Sea is rising 4.16 mm/yr and indicate that it rose 5.82 cm in 2006 against to 1993. The South Ses is the fastest in the study areas (4.89 mm/yr, 6.84cm) and the Yellow Sea is 4.10 mm/yr and 5.75cm, respectively. The both of Mokho coast and Ulleung island are minimal sea level in March to May and maximal sea level in September to November. For periods above 20.9days, coherences are found to be higher than 95% confidence level, and the phase differences are near zero.

  • Altimeter (Topex/Poseidon) and AVHRR (NOAA) data were used to study the variations and correlations of Sea Level (SL) and Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the North East Asian Seas from November 1993 to May 1998. This region is influenced simultaneously to continental and oceanic climate as the border of the East Sea (Japan Sea). SL and SST have increased gradually every year because the global warming, and presented usually a strong annual variations in Kuroshio extension region with the influence of bottom topography.

  • Time-mean and absolute geostrophic velocities of the Kuroshio current south of Japan are derived from TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter data using a Gaussian jet model. When compared with simultaneous measurements from a shipboard acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) at two intersection points, the altimetric and ADCP absolute velocities correlate well with the correlation coefficient of 0.55 to 0.74. The accuracy of time-mean velocity ranges from 1 cm s$^{-1}$ to 5 cm s$^{-1}$. The errors in the absolute and the mean velocities are similar to those reported previously for other currents. The comparable performance suggests the Gaussian jet model is a promising methodology for determining absolute geostrophic velocities, noting that in this region the Kuroshio does not meander sufficiently and thus provides unfavorable environment for the performance of the Gaussian jet model.

  • The plasmasphere is filled with the ions and electron transported mostly from the mid-latitude ionosphere. In the topside ionosphere where the $O^+$ ions are still major ions, the $O^+$ ions are in chemical equilibrium with the $H^+$ ions and exchange their charges with each other's parent atoms with similar rates in both reactions. During the day, the newly produced $H^+$ ions flow upward to fill the plasmasphere while they flow downward and contribute to the maintenance of the ionospheric density at night under the geomagnetically quiet condition. The ionosphere and plasmasphere are coupled by these plasma fluxes and therefore strongly affect each other. In order to study these coupling we utilized the plasma density measurements from JASON satellite. This satellite measures vertical total electron content (TEC) from the ground to the satellite orbit (about 1336 km) and slant TEC from the satellite orbit to much higher GPS satellites by using the on-board dual-frequency altimeter and GPS receiver, respectively. The former measurement can represent the ionospheric TEC while the latter can represent the plasmaspheric TEC in the equatorial region. We compared these data with different seasons, solar activities and local times, and the results will be presented.
